    RAID Spanning-Allfourdrivesarestripedintoonelargedrive,givingthemaximumcapacityfor

    yourTeraStation.ThissizeistheonelistedonyourTeraStationsboxandshowsthetotalcapacityoftheTeraStationwithnodatausedforredundancy.RAIDSpanningisfastandefcient,butwithnoredundancy,ifoneharddrivefails,alldataontheTeraStationislost.

    RAID 1(mirroring)-Harddrives(orspannedpairsofharddrives)arearrangedinmirroredpairs.Eachhalfofthepairreadsandwritesexactlythesamedata.ThiscostsyouhalfthetotalcapacityofyourTeraStation,butprovidesexcellentredundancy.Ifaharddrivefails,themirrorcontinuestosupplydata,soyoumayworkonnormally.Youmayreplacethedamagedordefectivedriveat

    anytime,andnormalRAID1mirroringwillthenbeautomaticallyrestored.RAID 5(parity)-AlldrivesinaRAID5arrayreservepartoftheirdataspaceforparityinformation,allowingalldatatoberecoveredifasingledrivefails.Theparityinformationtakesupaboutoneharddrivesworthofspace,soifyousetupallfourdrivesintheTeraStationasaRAID5array,yourusablecapacitywillbeabout3/4ofthetotalcapacityoftheTeraStation.RAID5isanexcellentcompromisebetweenefciencyandsecurity.Ifasingledrivefails,nodataislost.Afterthedamagedordefectivedriveisreplaced,yourTeraStationwillautomaticallyrestorealldatato
