The company added in a statement: “Paddy Power are also issuing an alert to all other players intending to wear their own lucky underpants in the remaining UEFA fixtures to keep the string tied tightly on their shorts so that they too don't face the wrath of the over the top UEFA pants police.“

What was the event that led to this bizarre statement from the underwear makers? Basically put funda behind the statement.

Page 5: Teramind quiz

Paddy Power had to pay £80,000 fine dished out to Danish striker Nicklas Bendtner for exposing a pair of underwear bearing the bookmakers' logo while the Danish outfit was actually sponsored by their rivals Ladbrokes. This lead to a lot of media coverage over the fact that the fine dished out for this case was a lot more than the cases of racial abuse and other bigger crimes.

The original use of this word  implied an individual unfamiliar with the demands of life outside of urban settings. The oldest usage was typically applied to a well-dressed male, or one who is unfamiliar with life outside a large city. The word became prominent in surfer culture in the early 1960s, but it wasn't until the mid-'70s that it started creeping into the mainstream. Some usages in mainly American pop culture have contributed to the spread of this word. What’s the word?

X is alleged to be a dish introduced at the famous Buhari Hotel restaurant in Chennai by its founder A.M.Buhari, a pioneer in the South Indian food industry.

The dish is said to require X to prepare the marinade, but this is unlikely for reasons of freshness and flavour.

Another account claims that it is a dish containing X chilli peppers devised by an enterprising hotelier.

The name is also claimed to relate to a requirement for the meat to be from X-old.

Yet another source claims that northern Indian army soldiers frequented a military canteen in Chennai. Its menus were written in Tamil, the local language. As most soldiers could not read Tamil, they made their choice by citing the number of the dish on the menu. The dish's popularity spread among the soldiers by word of mouth. They'd simply ask for “X"; soon, the dish became known officially as X.

Some food critics credit its invention to Ananth Reddy Mandra, a cooking prodigy from Hyderabad who is said to have mastered X cuisines from across the sub-continent. According to some, he took elements from all the X cuisines to perfect one dish known as X.

There was a myth that in 1791 a Dublin theater owner named James Daly made a bet that he could introduce a word into the language within twenty-four hours. He then went out and hired a group of street urchins to write the word “X", which was a nonsense word, on walls around the city of Dublin. Within a day, the word was common currency and had acquired a meaning (since no one knew what it meant, everyone thought it was some sort of test) and Daly had some extra cash in his pocket. However, there is no evidence to support the story, and the term was already in use before the alleged bet in 1791.
