Charutar Vidya Mandal (CVM)

CVM was established in the year 1945 by Shri Bhaikaka

and Shri Bhikhubhai as a charitable trust with a prime

objective of rural development through education to bring

about the social awakening, social upliftment, and

enrichment. Over the subsequent years, Dr. H M Patel (the

first finance minister of India) consolidated the efforts put

in by the founders. Later on, in the 1990s. In 1994, Dr. C

L Patel took over the reigns of CVM as the chairman, and

through his dynamic leadership, missionary zeal and

visionary outlook. CVM rejuvenated the ongoing

education system but added a modern education campus

at New Vallabh Vidyanagar Recently, Er. Bhikhubhai Patel

took a charge. He is a visionary personality with a goal to

enhance the quality of education using recent

Institute Glance

Seven plus decades ago, Shri Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel

kindled a lamp of rural knowledge centre – ‘Vallabh

Vidyanagar’ in Gujarat, and today this centre is a

‘Bodhigaya’ for over forty thousand young scholars studying

in thirty six disciplines affiliated to Sardar Patel University

and Gujarat Technological University. A branch sprigged

out from this Bodhigaya tree for technical education as

Birla Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya (BVM) exactly 101 years

after the technical education was initiated in India. Birla

Vishvakarma Mahavidyalaya Engineering College was

established in 1948 from donations made by the Birla

Education Trust on the behest of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel,

the first Home Minister of independent India. Functioning

under the umbrella of Charutar Vidya Mandal (CVM), BVM

is the first engineering college of Gujarat state established

way back in 1948. BVM is the first Autonomous

Engineering institute of Gujarat to obtain academic

About Vallabh Vidyanagar : Named after

Vithalbhai Patel, freedom fighter and the First

Indian president of the Central Legislative

Assembly under British rule, its foundation was

laid by the Iron Man of India, Sardar Vallabhbhai

Patel. In 1945, Shri Bhaikaka and Shri

Bhikhakaka registered a Public Charitable Trust :

The Charutar Vidya Mandal (CVM) and in the

glorious tradition of Nalanda and Takshashila,

they laid the foundation of a model township (on

borrowed land, thanks to the generosity of the

neighboring villages) which was inaugurated by

India's first Prime Minister Pandit Jawaharlal

Nehru. The reason of foundation of the University

and the town was to spread the Education in the

Rural Areas of Gujarat. Here education of all the

useful skills of modern age is imparted including

education of pre-primary, primary secondary and

higher secondary, graduation and post graduation

level. The education covers all the disciplines i.e.

arts, commerce, science, mechanical, natural

sciences, social sciences, medicine, fine arts, and

linguistics etc. The town is truly dedicated to the

field of education. On one hand, it captures the

current trends of the youth, while it attempts to

make those trends meaningful by making the

presence of different spiritual centers felt.
