Recently I heard a sermon preached by the Families’ Worker, Elizabeth, in my home parish. In her sermon, she reflected on the nature of the Church, and pointed to the roof, which bears resemblance to an upturned ship. She asked us to picture ourselves on the ship, and what we were doing there: are we on holidays, enjoying ourselves and the safety the ship provides? Are we in the lower cabins, uncertain of the course set out before us over the clamour of our circumstance? Or are we in the en- gine room, working to ensure we get to our destination safe- ly? She said that sometimes Jesus calls us to step out in faith. Jesus calls us out of the boat. And when we fail to hold all faith, he is there, hand outstretched, to remind us of his strength to hold us above the waters. Pray: that Jesus will lead us where our trust is without bor- ders, that we will walk upon the waters wherever he will call us. Romans 5:5 In the Old Testament a widow had less than a cup of oil, enough to make one loaf of bread. However, when God spoke through Elijah, she made a loaf of bread for him, one for herself, and then went on to fill every jar and jug she could find with the oil provided by God. God filled this wom- an’s jars because she needed oil, and He will pour His blessings into our lives, into those empty areas that need to be filled. Tenth Sunday after Pentecost Jesus calls us out of the boat. Recently I heard a sermon

preached by the Families’ Worker, Elizabeth, in my home

parish. In her sermon, she reflected on the nature of the

Church, and pointed to the roof, which bears resemblance to

ly? She said that sometimes Jesus calls us to step out in

faith. Jesus calls us out of the boat. And when we fail to hold

all faith, he is there, hand outstretched, to remind us of his

strength to hold us above the waters.

SIMPLE FORMULA FOR LIVING Live beneath your means. Return everything you bor-row. Stop blaming other people. Admit it when you make a mistake. Give clothes not worn to the op-shop. Do something nice & try not to get caught. Listen more. Talk less. Everyday take a 30 min. walk. Strive for excellence, not perfection. Be on time. Don’t make excuses. Don’t argue. Get organised. Be kind to un-kind people. Let someone cut ahead of you in line. Take time to be alone. Cultivate good manners. Be humble. Realise & accept that life isn’t fair. Know when to keep you mouth shut. Go an entire day with-out criticising anyone. Learn from the past. Plan for the future. Live in the present. Don’t sweat the small stuff. It’s all small stuff. ANON
