WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

• Serbian Novak Djokovic, the world’s current #1 ranked player, won the first Grand Slam tournament of the 2015 season, the Australian Open, in January.

• Djokovic also won the 2014 Australian Open, as well as the 2014 Wimbledon. He is considered one of the greatest players of all time, having won 8 Grand Slam singles titles and the Bronze medal in men’s singles at the 2008 Summer Olympics.

• Djokovic is one of four—along with Roger Federer, Rafael Nadal, and Andy Murray—who have dominated men’s tennis for a decade. With only three exceptions, those 4 men have won every Grand Slam tournament in the past 10 years.

WHAT YOU NEED TO KNOW

• Reigning #1 ranked player Serena Williams won the first Grand Slam tournament of the 2015 season, the Australian Open, in January.

• Williams is considered one of the best, if not the best, to play the game. She has won 4 Olympic Gold medals and 34 Grand Slam titles, including 19 in singles, making her second all-time to only Steffi Graf in the Open Era.

• Williams’ main rival on the court—and current world’s #2 ranked player—is Russian Maria Sharapova. Sharapova won the 2014 French Open, bringing her Grand Slam titles total to five.

• Sharapova lost to Williams in that 2015 Australian Open final in January. The rivals have squared off in 19 career matches, with Williams winning an astounding 17.
