Approximately 41,000 square miles

Includes parts of 7 States, Tennessee, Kentucky, North Carolina, Georgia, Virginia, Mississippi, and Alabama

But it was mostly in Tennessee (Tennessee Valley) and Tennessee River

Participation• Congress: They created and developed TVA

• Franklin D. Roosevelt: Signed the Tennessee Valley Authority Act

• Agricultural Adjustment Administration, Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC) and, U.S. Forest Service were among the agencies that worked with TVA

Notable creations/projects

• 16 dams and and a steam plant were largest reservoir on a tributary of the Tennessee River

• Wilson Dam is another dam on the Tennessee River, November 13, 1966 it was declared a National Historic Landmark

• Wheeler Dam is a hydroelectric dam. Built to improve navigation, flood control, and economic development to the region

• During the Great Depression 1,000 people a day visited these 3 dams

Effectiveness• More electricity to the people

• Cheap to afford electricity

• Farmers could afford it and made their farms more productive

• With TVA, electric lights and home appliances made life easier

• With more and more electricity there were job opportunities for people since most people didn't have jobs (Great Depression)

Still in use or not• Today the TVA is still in use

• Ranks as America's largest public power company

• 17,000 miles of transmission lines, delivers power to 8.5 million residents of Tennessee Valley

• Also it provides opportunities of sailing, fishing, canoeing, and a lot of other activities with 100 public campgrounds

• So overall its still in use providing electricity to people and many activities to the people in Tennessee Valley
