All nine Tennessee starters had at least one hit, while nine UT pitchers combined to allow just five, as the Volunteers improved to 17-4 on the season. UT waited out a rain delay of one hour, 31 minutes prior to the start of the contest before its offense erupted for seven runs on 16 hits to give Todd Raleigh his 100th victory at the helm of the Tennessee program. It was just another day at the plate for senior Khayyan Norfork who added three more hits to his SEC-leading total of 40. Those 40 hits have come in just 80 at-bats through the first 21 games as his batting average remained at an even .500. The Ripley, Tenn., native also stole a base and knocked in a run. Fellow classmate Josh Liles collected a pair of base-hits as well, as both players improved their hitting streaks to career-high strings of 12 games. Freshman Carter Watson picked up his fourth win of the year. As a team, nine Volunteer pitches combined to strike out 13, while walking just two over the course of the nine full frames. SCOUTING OLE MISS Ole Miss posted a 2-2 record last week before downing Samford, 3-0, on Tuesday to pick up its eighth shutout in the last eight games and move to 15-6 overall. Last week, the Rebels shutout Jackson State before blanking Alabama in the series opener on Friday night. Ole Miss then dropped the last two games of the series to the Crimson Tide by two runs each. Following the shutout of the Crimson Tide on Friday night, the Rebels had allowed only one run in 45.0 innings of baseball, the best stretch of pitching since the 1960 squad allowed only four runs in 54.0 innings of baseball. The streak reached 48.2 innings before Alabama scored its first run of the weekend in the fourth inning of Saturday’s game. Junior LHP Matt Crouse has continued his stellar performance on the mound with the win on Friday night against Alabama. Crouse worked 6.2 innings in the combined shutout, marking back-to-back Friday night shutouts for the Rebels. Crouse has now pitched 16.2 consecutive scoreless innings since allowing a run in the fourth inning against Tulane on March 4 in a 5-1 Rebel win. Crouse has allowed only one run in the last 20.2 innings of work and the southpaw is now 5-0 on the year with 29 strikeouts, two walks and a 1.34 ERA. Tanner Mathis continued to be solid at the plate, hitting .429 for the week with a .500 on base percentage and slugging percentage. Matt Smith also was hot at the plate, hitting .400 for the week with a .700 slugging percentage. Jake Morgan picked up his fifth save of the season against Alabama on Friday night, moving his record to 2-0 and five saves in eight appearances this season. TODD RALEIGHFourth SeasonWestern Carolina, 1991Record at UT: 100-88 (.532)Career Record: 357-297 (.546)

Tennessee head coach Todd Raleigh is in his fourth season at Rocky Top after guiding his alma mater, Western Carolina, for eight seasons. While at UT, Raleigh has had 12 players drafted, including two in 2008 and five more in both 2009 and 2010, and two more sign free-agent contracts following the completion of their eligibility. Nine of those players were drafted in the top-20

rounds, highlighted by 2009 first-round selection Kentrail Davis. In 19 seasons as a collegiate coach, Raleigh has now produced a total of 45 MLB draft picks and 63 professional players.

Under Raleigh's guidance, the Vols have steadily moved up in the NCAA RPI in each of the last three sea-sons, improving from 91 in 2008 to 58 in 2009 and 45 in 2010. Over the past two seasons, Raleigh’s squads have belted out 168 round-trippers (87 in 2009, 81 in 2010), good for the second-most prolific two-year period in school history.

During his tenure in Cullowhee, Raleigh’s clubs won two regular-season Southern Conference champion-ships, one Southern Conference tournament title, turned in five top-three league finishes and made a pair of NCAA Regional appearances—reaching the Regional final both times.

His 2007 WCU team posted a winning record against teams in the top 35 of the RPI and earned a rare mid-major at-large bid to the NCAA Championships. The Catamounts were touted by ESPN’s Kyle Peterson as featuring an “SEC-style offense.”

In his 19 seasons as a collegiate assistant or head coach, Raleigh’s teams have finished third or better in their respective league 12 times (63 percent).

Raleigh and his wife, Stephanie, have four children: Caleb John “Cal” (13), Emma Grace (11), Carley Elizabeth (4) and Todd Anthony “T” (1).

Turn up The VOLume ““There is not another person that puts higher

expectations on myself and this program than I do,” UT Head Coach Todd Raleigh said. “There is no doubt in my mind that we have this program headed in the right direction, especially this season. Everyone is on the same page in terms of coming to work every single day with the mindset of getting better. In the long run, that is really the only thing we can control.”

— Head Coach Todd Raleigh

“Since I got here in the fall of 2007, we have improved every aspect of this program, from the facilities, to the Academic Progress Rate to the NCAA RPI. The last piece of the puzzle is putting it all together on the field and getting to the postseason. Has it happened as fast as we would have liked? Most certainly not. I understand the expectations of our fans, and this may sound odd, but I like the fact that some of them aren’t too happy right now. I love that they expect greatness, just like I do. Have there been some extenuating circumstances that have slowed us down a little? Sure, but our goal from day one has been to build a program, not a team. I have no doubt that that stuff is in the past and we are moving forward. We are going to be a national power, no question about that. I am confident that we are headed in the right direction and cannot wait to get this season started.”

— Head Coach Todd Raleigh

“Ash brings a lot of energy and great ideas to our staff, especially with his insight on base running. It is going to be a critical year in that area because of all of the bat changes and he has done a tremendous job revamping our efforts on that part of the game. We stole a lot of bases last year, but I think we are going to step it up another level this season and put a lot of pressure on opposing teams.”

— Head Coach Todd Raleigh

“We have been working on a lot of small ball stuff. We don't have as many power guys, so we have to get back to the basics. A lot of bunting, base running and just small ball stuff. It's not a traditional team like we have had in the past but we are getting use to it. Top to bottom, it's just a group of scrappy guys. We are going to score runs in many different ways and put pres-sure on the other team to make mistakes."

— Senior First Baseman Josh Liles

“Our attitude is one of high intensity. That is one thing that we have focused on in our practices and scrimmages this fall and leading up to the spring. The chemisty on this team is definitely improved over what it has been in the last couple of years. We have a close-knit group and a group of seniors to lead us. We've set the bar high from the very beginning. The SEC Tournament is a bare minimum."

GRUVER SETTING THE TONE ON THE MOUND Junior starting pitcher Steven Gruver has done a fantastic job setting the tone for a UT pitching staff that looks much improved over recent years. In his first three starts alone, he led the Vols to a pair of shutouts before tossing a complete game in his fourth start. So far this year, he has struck out 37 and walked just six in 34.2 innings of work. He went six scoreless against Milwaukee on Opening Day before shutting down Canisius for seven frames on Feb. 26 when he posted a career-high 10 strikeouts. He has now pitched 6.0+ innings eight times in his career. In those eight games, he is 5-1 with a 1.65 ERA and 54 strikeouts to just 10 walks.

SEASON COMPARISONS(through 16 games)

Senior third baseman Matt Duffy posted one of the most memorable offensive performances in Tennessee history against New Orleans on March 9, 2011, becoming just the second UT player to ever hit for the cycle. Duffy finished the contest 4-for-6 at the plate with a career-high three runs scored and four RBIs. He had a double in the first inning, a triple in the fourth, his second home run of the season in the fifth and a single in the eighth.

2011 SEC STANDINGSDUFFY PICKING UP RIGHT WHERE HE LEFT OFF After a slow start in 2010, his first at Tennessee, Matt Duffy picked up the pace at the end of the year, leading the Big Orange with a .348 batting average in SEC play. The transfer from Vermont has picked up right where he left off as he is currently hitting at a .403 clip (29-for-72). A native of Milton, Mass., Duffy also has the most RBIs of any player in the SEC with 26, is tied for the team lead with four home runs and ranks second on the UT squad with a .681 slugging percentage and 11 extra-base hits.

CATAPANO = WINNERIncluding his two seasons at North Carolina,

Tennessee senior and Knoxville native Rob Catapano has started 14 collegiate games. The team he has started for has won all 14 contests, including all five of the games he started in 2010 for the Big Orange and both of his starts so far this season.

BENNETT OFF TO STRONG START After hitting 27 home runs as a senior at Farragut High School, UT freshman catcher/DH Ethan Bennett has wasted little time adjusting to the college game, as he is tied with Matt Duffy for the team high with four home runs and is hitting .357 (16-for-46) with 19 RBIs through his first 13 games at Rocky Top. After missing the first two weekends with a hamstring injury, Bennett exploded onto the scene with four home runs in three games. During that stretch, he hitting .583 (7-for-12) with 19 RBIs and six runs scored. Bennett's talent isn't limited to the baseball dia-mond though, as he is also an accomplished musi-cian with the ability to play the guitar, bass guitar, banjo, mandolin and piano.

VOLS OFF AND RUNNING Prior to the season, there was quite a bit of talk about Tennessee implementing a new, more aggressive baserunning philosophy. The Vols have walked-the-walk so far in 2011 as they have already recorded an SEC leading 53 stolen bases in the first 21 games of the season. By comparison, it took UT 42 games to reach that mark in 2010 and never got there in 2009 when it had just 39 thefts in 55 games. The new baserunning program was on full dis-play on Feb. 27 against Canisius, when the Big Orange was a near-perfect 9-for-10 on the base-paths, including a pair of double steals and three thefts of third. The last time a Tennessee team had nine stolen bases in one game came against Morehead State on Feb. 8, 2003. UT had been successful in 20 straight stolen

base attempts and 29 of 30 tries before having a runner thrown out on March 9. With 17 thefts, senior Khayyan Norfork is tied for first in the league with Mississippi State's Nick Vickerson and has as many or more stolen bases than three different SEC teams (Alabama, S. Carolina, Georgia) by himself. Not far behind Norfork is speedy freshman Andrew Toles who has the second-most stolen bases in the SEC with 12 in 14 attempts. That already ties current Texas Ranger centerfielder Julio Borbon for the fifth-most by a Tennessee freshman.

SAVING THE DAY One of the most eye-popping stats for Tennessee this season has come from the back of the team's bullpen. After recording four saves over the course of the entire 2010 campaign, the Vols already have nine saves in the first 21 games this season, with seven different pitchers doing the honors no less. Both Matt Ramsey and Zack Godley have two each, while Nick Blount, T.J. Thornton, Levi Dean, Nick Williams and Drew Steckenrider each have one. With eight career saves, Ramsey is currently tied with Clark Odom (97-98) for the sixth most in Tennessee history.

SHUTOUT STREAK Prior to its 4-0 victory over Milwaukee on Opening Day (2/18), Tennessee's last shutout came on March 10, 2007, a span of three years, 11 months and eight days (209 games), when James Adkins and Ryne Simpson combined to blank Siena, 5-0, in Knoxville. It didn't take the Vols to pick up another shut-out as they accomplished the feat once again just a week later against Canisius (2/25), also by a 4-0 score. UT picked up another on March 9 with a 14-0 blanking over New Orleans.

Longest Time Between Shutouts 1. 209 games 3/10/07 (Siena) - 2/18/11 (Mlwaukee) Three years, 11 months, 8 days (1441 days)

The University of Tennessee baseball team will be featured on national television 11 times during the 2011 regular season, its second under the Southeastern Conference's landmark 15-year agreement with ESPN. The Volunteers will be one of two squads to be featured twice on ESPNU's groundbreaking Thursday Night SEC Baseball Game of the Week during the 2011 season. The Vols will kick off the inaugural seven-week series, a first for the sport, when they host defending NCAA National Champion South Carolina at 7:30 p.m. on April 7 at Lindsey Nelson Stadium. UT will then take part in the event the next week as well when it travels to Tuscaloosa, Ala., to square off with Alabama on April 14. Both contests will be televised nationally on ESPNU which is now available in 73 million homes.

VOLS NOT LISTED IN NOTICE OF ALLEGATIONS The University of Tennessee received a Notice of Allegations from the NCAA on Feb. 23. While an examination into potential rules violations by the University of Tennessee baseball program was refer-enced in the initial Letter of Inquiry from the NCAA, there were no alleged violations by the baseball program listed in this Notice.

NORFORK EXCELS ON OPENING DAY...AGAIN For the second straight season, Vol second base-man Khayyan Norfork opened the year with a bang. After going 4-for-5 with two runs scored, an RBI and a stolen base in his UT debut against Xavier in 2010, Norfork kicked off the 2011 campaign with a 2-for-4 effort, knocking in three of the team's four runs against Milwaukee in its 4-0 victory. In his two Opening Day starts combined, Norfork is 6-for-9 (.667) with four RBIs, two stolen bases and two runs scored.

RECORD-SETTING ATTENDANCE ON OPENING WEEKEND

Tennessee set a new school-record for total atten-dance in a home-opening series, drawing 6,111 fans (2,037/game) to the three-game set against Milwaukee, Feb. 18-20. The previous record was set in 1997 when the Vols drew 5,877 over three games

against Eastern Kentucky. With 2,345 on hand on the first day of the 2011 season, UT had its second-highest attendance for a home-opening contest, behind only the 2.753 that saw the Vols take on Louisville on Feb. 25, 1995.

ROCKY TOP BLOODLINES Freshman centerfielder Andrew Toles was born to bleed orange. A fourth-round selection by the Florida Marlins last June, Toles decded to put his professional career on hold in order to attend the same school where his father and uncle both excelled on the gridiron. His father, Alvin, was a hard-hitting linebacker at Tennessee (1981-84) before being drafted in the first round of the 1985 NFL draft by the New Orleans Saints. His uncle, Johnnie Jones, also is the fourth-leading rusher in Tennessee history (82-84) and spent time with the Seattle Seahawks in the NFL and the Hamilton Tiger-Cats in the CFL. His mother, Vicky, meanwhile, played basketball at the University of New Orleans, and his sister, Morgan plays basketball at Auburn.

NEW FACES IN THE CROWD The Volunteers return 17 players, including seven starters, from last year's squad which finished with a record of 30-26. Joining them is a talented group of 14 newcomers, headlined by freshman Andrew Toles, a fourth-round pick by the Florida Marlins in the 2010 MLB First-Year Player Draft, and last year's Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year, Ethan Bennett from Farragut High School. All 14 newcomers have already made their way into a game this season.

SERIES HISTORYTennessee and Ole Miss have squared off 70 times all-time with the Rebels holding a slim 36-33-1

advantage. The Vols, however, are 15-14 against Ole Miss in Knoxville. Although UT won two of three last season, Ole Miss has won six of the last 10 matchups between the two squads.

LAST SEASON Tennessee claimed its first series victory in Oxford since 2002 last year, bouncing back after a Friday night loss to eventual first-round pick Drew Pomeranz to win the next two games. Chris Fritts hit a long-ball off of Pomeranz and Matt Duffy collected a pair of RBIs and two hits in the 7-3 loss on Friday. P.J. Polk carried the team to victory on Saturday though, posting one of the best performances of his career. He finished 4-for-5 at the plate with a pair of home runs, two singles, three RBIs and two runs scored. Polk also had a career-best 10 total bases in the game as the Big Orange won 5-2 behind seven strong innings from Stephen McCray and the first save of the season by Matt Ramsey. On Sunday, it was Khayyan Norfork’s turn to lead the Orange and White to victory, going 3-for-5 with a career-high four RBIs in a 10-6 triumph. UT-OLE MISS SERIES HISTORY

In an effort to get a few laughs out of his teammates and fans this season, senior Tyler Horne selected Elton John's "Circle of Life" from the animated motion picture "The Lion King," as his walk-up song. It has achieved its stated goal as both players and fans alike have embraced it. When Horne strides to the dish, it is not uncommon to see people imitating the scene from the movie where Rafiki presents Simba for all of the kingdom to see.

NEW FACES ON THE COACHING STAFF In addition to the 14 new players, Tennessee also welcomes a pair of new coaches in assistant coach Ash Lawson and volunteer assistant Barrett Shaft. A former head coach at Tennessee Wesleyan, Lawson comes to Rocky Top from the San Diego Padres for whom he was a regional crosschecker. He was named the Padres' Scout of the Year in 2006. Shaft is in his first season as a volunteer assistant after serving as a manager for the team last year. He is a 2008 graduate of Western Carolina.

HOMEGROWN TALENT PLENTIFUL ON TENNESSEE ROSTER Tennessee’s roster includes 12 players from the state of Tennessee (38.7 percent of the roster). Five Vols are from Knox County and one is from Sevier County (Seymour), while two others hail from West Tennessee and four are from Middle Tennessee. Four of the local players hail from Farragut High School, including senior Rob Catapano, junior Matt Ramsey and freshmen Ethan Bennett and Nick Williams. Bennett was named a 2010 Louisville Slugger High School All American, Tennessee Gatorade Player of the Year and TBCA Class AAA Player of the Year after setting a state single-season record with 27 home runs. He also hit .420 with 73 RBIs

and scored 57 runs and set the national record for home runs in consecutive games, belting 16 during a 10-game stretch in April. Williams also played a big role in leading Farragut to three straight state titles with Bennett, going 19-0 with 137 strikeouts and an 0.85 ERA during his three seasons on the varsity squad.

THE COLOR ORANGE On Sunday, Feb. 20, ESPN aired a feature-length documentary on former two-sport Tennessee star Condredge Holloway, entitled "The Color Orange." The documentary, produced and directed by country music star Kenny Chesney, detailed Holloway's collegiate career as the first black quar-terback in the SEC. In addition to his exploits on the gridiron, Holloway also served as the starting shortstop at UT, garnering first-team All-America recognition in 1975 after hitting .396 with 20 RBIs and two home runs.

BASEBALL PARTICIPATES IN LIGHT THE NIGHT WALK, RAISES MORE THAN $5,000 FOR CANCER RESEARCH For the fourth straight year, the University of Tennessee baseball team participated in the Leukemia and Lymphoma Society's Light the Night

Walk Thursday evening at Circle Park on the UT campus. Since becoming involved with the event in 2007, the Volunteers have now helped to raise nearly $30,000, including over $5,000 this year, in support of research into the treatment and preven-tion of cancer.

Starting this season, the NCAA has implemented a number of new rules, primarily a pitch clock and new bat standards.

PITCH CLOCK After allowing the use of a pitch and between innings clock experimentally last year, the commit-tee voted to mandate the use of a timing device and implemented penalties for non-compliance. Current rules require pitchers to start their deliv-ery in no more than 20 seconds without runners on base. This rule remains and an umpire will be required to monitor and enforce this time limit. Additionally, in non-televised games, umpires will enforce a 90 second limit between innings. The committee recommended a time limit for televised games of 108 seconds, which the Southeastern Conference used experimentally during the 2010 season.

BAT STANDARDS A new bat testing standard will be in place for NCAA baseball across all three Divisions. The goal is for non-wood bats that meet this new standard to

perform similarly to wood bats in competition. NCAA baseball has a vast variety of teams and styles of play and a central part of the bat stan-dards is to ensure a balance between offense and defense. Known as the Ball-Bat Coefficient of Restitution (BBCOR), all bats used in NCAA competition for all divisions must meet this standard and display the appropriate certification mark. There is no opportu-nity for “grandfathering” old bats. The BBCOR formula provides a better mea-sure of a bat’s performance and allows the NCAA Baseball Rules Committee and bat-testing laborato-ries to better predict field performance based on lab tests. NCAA bat performance testing protocols are developed and managed by the Baseball Research Panel, which consists of a group of top scientists and researchers from NCAA institutions. The BBCOR standard, which was announced in September 2008, replaces the Ball Exit Speed Ratio standard. Full information on the BBCOR standard and other bat details is available at the following website: http://www.ncaa.org/baseballbats.
