Midterm Project

My design of this project was fairly simple, but was not lost on subtlety. I chose one of

my favorite songs of all time, “Ten Years Gone” by Led Zeppelin. This song has a great deal of

meaning in my life dating back to when I was a kid and listened to it with my dad. The first

picture is of a road closed sign taken at Dunn and 17th

and symbolizes the obstacles that stand in

our way and how we must find other routes to our destination at times. The second picture, a

detour sign taken at the same place, shows the changing of course and how we will eventually

reach our destination no matter what stands in our way. The picture of an eye rayed in glory

shows how much one object can “see” or what it can reach in all directions. The fourth picture is

a low angle shot of a road in which you do not see the end, symbolizing that in this life we still

have far to go. I chose a low angle because it makes the road seem daunting and gives me the

feeling that it will never end, although all roads do have to end eventually. Lastly, a picture of

me holding a picture of me and my ex-girlfriend of 5 years is used to show how I still wonder

what could have been, but still need to keep moving down the road in order to move on.

Kind of makes me feel sometimes, didn't have to grow

-Starred lyrics are the ones my pictures are related to

In my study of Walker Evans, I realized he likes to center his point of interests while the

surrounding visual cues round out the photograph.
