Ten Safest Cities In The World
As the world is getting urbanized, more and more people are moving to the cities
and suburbs. With better economies for the people, these areas provide certain
risks as well, with risks of violence, diseases and digital vulnerabilities.
Based on a study by the Economist Intelligence, which ranked cities
based on indicators in four categories. The fifty cities that were indexed
were based on the importance of them in a specific region. The cities selected
from the US were all in the top 20, with just one making it in the top ten.
The indexing was done based on these four categories:
Personal Safety: This took into account the illegal activity along with the
nature of the crime. No US city featured in the top ten.
Health Security: This category included things related to health. Factors like
life expectancy and the ratio of hospitals were included. This category was
dominated by European cities due to the fewer population density. Zurich was no
1 with New York the only American city in the top ten, placed at the second spot.
Infrastructure Safety: This category was used to measure factors like the
quality of roads and the accidents that happen including natural disaster. Only
San Francisco was placed among the top ten, tying with Abu Dhabi for the final
spot.
Digital Security: The score was based on the number of cybercrimes and
identity thefts. Cities with cyber security teams scored higher and four cities from
the US made it to the top ten with New York (3) and LA (6) being the highest
ranked cities.
The ten safest cities in the world are shown below:
10. New York City
The only city from the US to make it in the top ten, New York is ranked second
for health security and third for digital safety. Due to terrorist threats and potential
cyberwar, it can’t occupy a higher position.
9.Melbourne, Australia
It has the second safest infrastructure among the indexed cities. With
one of the highest life expectancies, it ranks ninth in the overall rankings. It is
also sixth among the best cities to live in.
8.Toronto, Canada
The only city from the US to make it in the top ten, New York is ranked second
for health security and third for digital safety. Due to terrorist threats and potential
cyberwar, it can’t occupy a higher position.

health coverage and a great infrastructure. A high average income means that
it’s easier to invest in the safety and security departments.
6.Sydney, Australia

However, it lags behind in the digital security department withAustralia being a
major target for identity theft. It ranks low in health security as well, securing
the 17th position.

The infrastructure safety in Amsterdam is great due to the amazing
infrastructure. With more and more people riding bikes, the fatal accidents have
reduced by a large amount. It also ranks in the top ten for personal safety.

(tenth). It is seventh in digital security and fifth in personal security.
