blancpain’s Valentine Offering

For the first time in its history, luxury watch maker Blancpain has created a special-shaped watch (the visual is a watercolour

rendering of the model) manufactured in Le Brassus. The authentic jewelled creation set with over 500 diamonds and pink sapphires, has the world’s smallest self-winding movement, Calibre 615. The timepiece will be issued in a limited edition of 14 to celebrate Valentine’s Day in 2010.

This symbolic masterpiece, which is a tribute to love and femininity, features white and pink mother-of-pearl dial in the shape of a heart and is framed by a bezel set with over 500 diamonds and pink sapphires. A heart-cut diamond also appears at 12 o’clock, while the pin buckle is set with a pear-shaped pink sapphire. The exquisite beauty of this exceptional two-hand watch also lies in the slenderness of its movement.

Blancpain will also reintroduce its famous “Lady Bird” Calibre 615, which is supposed to be the world’s smallest self-winding movement and has a sapphire crystal case-back. This line too will be a limited edition of 14 and will be unveiled on Valentine’s Day.

Harry Winston unveils the Midnight Minute Repeater, a limited edition of 40 pieces in

white gold and 40 pieces in rose gold with the option of a silver or dark dial. The masterpiece emphasizes qualities such as refinement and complexity in a timepiece.

The round 42 mm case has a self-winding mechanical movement. The open dial with a minute repeater mechanism can be activated by pressing the push piece situated at 8 o’clock. Encircled by a gold ring, the watch has a sleek dipped window -- at the top left corner – which features two hammers engraved with Harry Winston’s initials, located on the exterior of the movement.

The Midnight Minute Repeater has an excentered time indication, iconic arches, and a diamond adorning the hollowed window. The sophisticated timepiece strikes hours with different tones for hours, quarter hours, and minutes, “marrying supreme technical and musical accuracy.”

This refined creation is available at the Harry Winston Boutique at DLF Emporio, New Delhi.

Enlightened Swarovski’s Chic Timepieces

Watch out for these elegant and designer luxury timepieces crafted for Enlightened™- Swarovski Elements by some of the best international

designers, including India’s renowned jewellery designer Pallavi Dudeja Foley. Incorporating precious, semi precious and created stones into the designs, Foley has contributed to the Enlightened™- Swarovski Elements Watch Inspirations brochure, by crafting some of the most contemporary and appealing watches.

Foley has developed nine different concepts namely, Linear, Maharaja, Paisley, Luminous, Within, Circlex, Starlight, Trio and Fragment.

“Designing for the future is a phenomenal creative experience. Depicting what I envision could be the trend in the future is something that has always excited me. All of the nine watches that I have designed for this special project are in 18 karat white or yellow gold,” reveals Foley, adding,

“I have looked at new ways of wearing a watch and expressing time. In many of my designs India is expressed through a mango motif or a miniature painting. But not all my inspirations have come from India. Today, we are living in a nomadic world and we are all global nomads. Easy travel, internet and the other media has brought the world closer than ever before making designers express their culture in a global way. An example of this can be seen through my designs.”

Foley’s favourite innovation is the new special Trilight cut, which she has used in three jewelled watches namely “Starlight, Trio and Fragment”. The other is the Round Star cut, which she has used in watch designs titled “Within, Luminous and Paisley”. For “Circlex” the designer has used

round cabochon stones. The “Maharaja and Linear” watches use the Baguette Step cut.

Mumbai-based designer Rina Mehta unveils “Extraordinaire”, a collection which

embodies the rich heritage of both the Moghul and Nizam eras. Drawing inspiration from her numerous travels, this collection also reflects influences from Turkish and Moroccan designs, Tanjore paintings and incorporates elements from Tuscany and Casablanca.

“I am an ardent believer of handmade jewellery which is not mass produced or reproduced. The Indian craftsmen excel in this work and their love for design and creation transforms pieces of metal and stone into works of art. A piece of jewellery should be a genuine reflection of artistry and skill,” says Mehta.
