“Where Judaism Lives”

Adison Marie is interested in making a difference for the associated student body at Cato Middle School where she serves as Vice President in her seventh grade year. She is currently a yellow belt in Karate and a member of the Cato Girls Basketball team. One of her most favorite past-times that she enjoys with her family is going on camping trips.

Adi loves to help others. One of the goals she wishes to ac-complish as she prepares for her Bat Mitzvah ceremony is to visit children in the hospital, read to them, and leave them with a new book. She has many aspirations as for a future career. She is so grateful for support from members of our Temple Beth El family on her journey to becoming a Bat Mitzvah.

President Schechter’s Perspectives

Dear Chevrei,

December was a fun time with Paint Night, the 8K Krazy Kilometers and the Latke Brunch.

Let me step back to November for a moment. I had the distinct honor to present Elliott Magnus with

a leaf on the Tree of Life for three years at leading us as President of Temple Beth El. Thank you,

Elliott, for all your hard work and determination!

The 8K Krazy Kilometers was another successful experience. It rained, there was mud, there was

joy and there was community. This event brought in our Temple community working very hard at

making this a great day. There were many Temple runners as well as community runners with the

lovely Emma Goss being our MC. Mayor Goh came to start the runners off. Many of the runners

were recipients of gifts donated by individuals and companies. Thank you to our fearless leader,

Stacy Davis and her committee and all that volunteered their time during the planning and carrying

out of this exciting event!

The Latke Brunch will be a success in our own Norma’s Kitchen. Although we miss our family and

friends that are no longer with us, new traditions will be made.

Our Rabbi Search Committee has met and have come up with an announcement that was posted to

hire a Rabbi. We will be reviewing candidates as they come in. Andy Abrams is our leader and

liaison with the CCAR and doing a masterful job in this position.

In November of this year, I had the honor to attend a program at CSUB. It was called Women,

Religion and Empowerment. It was sponsored by the CSUB Interfaith Group Common Ground,

Interfaith Youth Core and the Institute of Religion, Education and Public Policy. Five religious

leaders in our community sat at the dias table and discussed their roles as women within their

religion. The students that attended were to ask questions after the presentation and then were

challenged to go out into the community and visit with the various houses of worship. You will

notice on Fridays that students have come to our services. Please welcome these students to our

Synagogue.

Our talented Adison Gartenlaub will be celebrating her Bat Mitzvah on January 18th. It will be a

great Mitzvah for our Temple Community to attend this joyous occasion!

Yasher Koach to everyone that has been involved in our Temple this past month!

Shalom,

Ilene Schechter
