WORK EXPERIENCE (Current Job) 08-07-2002 ONWARDS CONSULTANT HAEMATOLOGIST WORCESTERSHIRE ROYAL HOSPITAL Worcestershire Royal Hospital (Full time) & Hon Senior Lecturer in Haematology , University of Birmingham from 1-05-2008 & Shared Care arrangements – Queen Elizabeth Hospital Birmingham (University Hospitals NHS Foundation trust) Level 3 & 4 Stem Cell Transplantation Countywide Haematology service for the whole of Worcestershire linking Worcester Royal hospital , Alexandra hospital & Kidderminister general. With all inpatients based at WRH in the dedicated Haematology Unit ( Laurel 3). As a Consultant, 4.5 at WRH & 2.5 at Alexandra Hospital Redditch. Mainly based at Worcestershire Royal hospital along with another Consultant, has daily responsibilities in the management of 3 Haematology clinics. Inpatients: All level 1& 2 works are based at Worcester Royal Hospital. With 1:7 commitment for fortnightly attending Physician’s role. During which period are in charge of the inpatients and all the medical referrals. Daily ward rounds with the junior medical team. Supervise all the procedures. Lead for all national Clinical trials and Phase II trials in Myeloma through University Hospital Birmingham. Currently Clinical Director for Haematology & Cancer service directorate since May 2009. Management Experience In Worcestershire Acute NHS Trust : Clinical Lead in Haematology –Cancer services Worcestershire Acute NHS Trust Since 2008 onwards as a part of Medical Directorate. Played a key role in reshaping the Worcester /Kidderminster Clinical Haematology Cover arrangements. Overcome the recruitment crisis for the Kidderminster vacancy. Worked towards the countywide structure in Haemato-Oncology. And created this new directorate for the first time in subsequent trust restructuring. Clinical Director in Haemato-Oncology : since 2009 Since officially a new directorate I was the Clinical Director since 2009. Actively involved in full centralisation of services and appointed new CNS’s to cover all three major sites. Junior doctor crisis was managed and new appointment was made 2 years ago , along with re-instating Specialist Registrar back for the rotation. 2 New Consultant posts were appointed after senior Consultant retired in 2010. With full 7 Consultants across the three main sites and peripheral clinics including Bromsgrove, Evesham & Malvern. Active working arrangements with QE and starting shared care arrangements for Autologous Transplantation service. Acute Oncology service was implemented with a robust nurse led model with 2 specialty doctors. Two new Palliative care Consultants were appointed 6 months ago. Oncology Project participation: Actively involved in the Worcestershire Oncology Project working along with Mr Adel Makar & Dr Clive Irwin, interim Oncology Lead for the trust. Fully established Oncology centre at Worcestershire , the first twin unit in the country with Coventry Oncology centre. 11 New Oncologist appointed and has been working through phase 3 implementation now with Head and neck cancer. Named as Worcestershire Oncology Centre. Clinics & level 1 work are carried out at Dewsbury General. All haematological malignancy was treated with attachment to Leeds teaching hospitals. The centre had special interest in treating refractory CLL’s with Mab-campath. Also had a special interest in PNH related illness. All Autografts were done locally. Specialist registrars rotating from Leeds Training scheme. 1-10-2001 TO 31-03-2002 SPECIALIST REGISTRAR IN HAEMATOLOGY UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL BIRMINGHAM (QUEEN ELIZABETH HOSPITAL) (TEACHING) BIRMINGHAM Main University teaching hospital, provides health care to south Birmingham comprising of Queen Elizabeth & Selly Oak Hospitals. Total 950 beds in two sites. Hospital has Emergency admission unit. It also accommodated a range of speciality services, including Liver, Renal, Cardiac, Cardiothoracic, Neurosurgery Oncology & Radiotherapy. Clinical Haematology is part of the Haematology & Oncology Directorate, provides a general and malignant haematology service including Bone marrow transplantation, a tertiary referral centre for haemophiliacs, hereditary & acquired bleeding, and thrombotic disorder. Regional cell separator unit is situated here involved in stem cell collections, Plasmapharesis, leukopharesis & red cell exchanges. Manages Haemoglobinopathy, mainly sickle cell disease. Inpatient Facilities : 26 bedded ward shared with Cardiology, roughly occupying between 12 to 16 beds. Total inpatient turn over is about 250 per year. 6 isolation beds for neutropenic patient and Autologous Transplant patients. Undertake 12 cases per year. Know it is the regional centre for Warwickshire health authority. Tertiary referral centre for haemophilias, hereditary & acquired bleeding and thrombotic disorder. Regional cell separator unit is situated here involved in stem cell collections, Plasmapharesis, leukopharesis & redcell exchanges. Manages Haemoglobinopathy, mainly sickle cell disease. Experience in management of General Haematology including Anaemias, Leukaemias, myeloma, lymphomas & myelodysplasias. Bone Marrow Transplant unit includes four bedded unit. Does both Allo & Auto transplants. Busy day unit involved in blood transfusion & chemotherapy. Regional Haemophilia (Adult) centre for whole of West Midlands. Regional Thrombosis referral centre. Total of 7 clinics excluding anticoagulant clinics. 15 beds of General haematology & 4 transplant beds. Busy anticoagulation clinic Two major ward rounds.
