She has signed on the dotted line for the Channel 7 series, which starts soon, and is already in Melbourne getting ready for the show. The singer said she had always wanted to learn to dance properly. ‘‘I have always admired the discipline of dance but never trained, so I thought this would be a great opportunity to learn to dance and spend some time back in Melbourne with my family,’’ Arena said. ‘‘I’m also very aware of the fact that everyone who has participated in the show here and abroad has had an amaz- ing time.’’ Arena, who doesn’t believe she is a good dancer, said she was ready for the gruelling training. ‘‘I’m also psyching myself up for the body pain that’s about to slap me in the face,’’ she said. ‘‘I’m a singer and a musician — defi- nitely not a dancer. But I’ll give it a shot. ‘‘I grew up watching MGM, Fred Astaire, Ginger Rogers . . . why not?’’ The singer said it was great to be working on Aussie TV again. ‘‘Yes I’ve been doing TV for 38 years now, which is frightening, but I started when I was seven, eight years old. ‘‘This is something new for me and I enjoy challenges.’’ Arena will soon release a new album, Reset, and is writing a book. ‘‘It’s my first album of English originals in more than a decade,’’ she said. ‘‘I’ve had two French albums, which have been really successful and reward- ing, but it’s great to be focusing on new music at home again. ‘‘The book is finished and comes out in October . . . phew!’’ Kylie tip for Voice KYLIE Minogue (pictured) could be following in sister Dannii’s footsteps on reality TV after emerging as a frontrunner to join the British version of The Voice. Network Ten is sure hoping so, considering the popular drama is now on hiatus until next year. The timing could not have been better for Ten’s big debut with most men glued to the televised sport, leaving women across the country to indulge in Wonderland in all its chick-lit glory. Yep fellas, this one definitely isn’t for you. The first episode — which was watched by 948,000 viewers lat week — served up all the pillars of a good rom-com including a beachside set- ting, wedding, proposal, breakup and make-out session as well as a bunch of characters with compli- cated back stories. Whether or not it was the pro- ducer’s intention, the wedding of Steve (Tim Ross) and Dani (Jess Tovey) which was the crux of the opening episode was suitably cheesy and predictable. Hideous, blue bridesmaid dresses. Tick. Self-obsessed bride in ugly spandex. Tick. Best man speech which inappropriately mentions sex. Tick. But what viewers probably weren’t expecting was the glorious moment when the best man’s slightly delusional girlfriend pro- posed to him by singing Olivia Newton Johns I Honestly Love You in front of all his friends. Gold. This moment and his subsequent rejection of her proposal leads to the unravelling of their relationship and a bet between the best man, Tom, and his mates that he won’t sleep with any more of his flatmates for a whole year. Enter Miranda who is not only Steve’s sister but you guessed it, Tom’s sexy new flatmate. While there were some genuinely heart-warming scenes, intriguing characters and laugh-out-loud mo- ments, the general feeling from those on social media was ‘‘meh’’. But like all first dates you have to get past the formalities before you find out whether the person is worth pursuing or at least buying a second cocktail for and next week’s episode looks great. Episode two promises to delve into the sexual tension between the lovable but fallible Tom and his new flatmate Miranda which with time, might just prove a worthy substi- tute for Nina and Patrick after all. Or at least an attractive benchwarmer. What you need to know if you missed it: Wonderland is the apartment block the characters live in. The show is set on Sydney’s beaches and you will wish longing for summer every time the camera cuts to an aerial shot of golden sand and aqua waves. Plus, you can expect many scenes with characters in bikinis or boardies. Someone always cries in the toilet at weddings. Miranda Beaumont (Anna Bamford) has broken up with her fiance and now moved in with her brother’s best friend, Tom Wilcox. Tom is nursing his own broken heart after breaking up with his girlfriend but he can’t sleep with Miranda, remember, because he’ll lose his much-loved car in a bet. Wonderland airs again on Net- work Ten at 8.30pm tomorrow.
