Some consumer monitors do however not go into standby if they receive no video on the HDMI input. In the newer releases TC4.2 and higher Cisco TelePresence has implemented CEC (Consumer Electronics Control). This allows the codec to signal standby to a monitor.

To fix this, you must go into the monitor's menu system and find the setting to avoid this. Different monitors uses different terms but you should look for something like: JustScan, PixelbyPixel or Underscan.Some monitors only have this option for the native resolution of the display, therefore if you can't find it, go to the Cisco TelePresence System Codec administrator settings menu and change the video output resolution and try again. To set the resolution for the video output HDMI 1, open the Home menu and go to Settings > Administrator settings > Advanced configuration > Video > Output > HDMI 1 (or 3) and set the Resolution.Some monitors do not have this setting at all. Then you can use the VGA input of the monitor and select a PC resolution from the administrator settings menu. y Limited bandwidth - try decreasing the Maximumupstreambitrate under Call Set-tings in Menu until you get a better quality image. This ensures that the bandwidth requirements of the encoded bitstream are better matched to actual available network bandwidth.

y Large amounts of your bandwidth are in use, leaving little for the Cisco IP Video Phone E20 - the problem is solvable by setting up a QoS service at home. (Many routers have this option built in: check the manual for further instructions). The problem may also be solved by pausing other applications during video calls.

y Packet loss / packet reordering - this problem may be solved through your Internet Service Provider.

y To check if you currently have problems with packet loss on your Cisco IP Video Phone E20 do the following:

y Press the Home button to display the Main menu. y Press the right arrow key to navigate to Menu. y Navigate to the System Information using the lower arrow key. Press the OK key

In SX20 Quick Set the default optimal definition profile is set to Medium.Changes in the picture principally occur when something in the picture is in motion or by noise in the picture from the camera. When there is little changes in the picture, the need for bandwidth decreases. More light gives less noise in the picture and consequently reduces the need for bandwidth. In Cisco TelePresence System Codec software version TC3.0 (experimental in version TC2.1) it is possible to increase the video resolution for situations where light conditions are especially good. These settings are found under the OptimalDefinition Profile settings menu by navigating to Advanced configuration > Video > Input > Source n > Optimal-Definition > Profile for for a selected camera input n.There are three possible modes:

y Normal - Standard meeting room. Default setting (Recommended) y Medium - Good, stable light conditions y High - Optimal light conditions for video conferencing.

Security comes from the key, a number which is passed to the algorithm to tell it how to encrypt the data. A commonly employed communications encryption method is the “Data Encryption Standard” (DES). DES works by encrypting data with a 56-bit long key. Triple DES (3DES) is an enhancement to DES that effectively runs 112-bit long keys. DES and 3DES are both widely used in commercial and non-defense government communications today. To provide a higher degree of secu-rity than both DES and 3DES, a new standard called Advanced Encryption Standard (AES) has been developed. The new AES standard with 128-bit keys has been approved by the U.S. Government to protect sensitive, unclassified data and replaces the use of 3DES. Cisco TelePresence supports all of the following encryption standards: AES, DES, H.233, H.234 and H.235 with an extended Diffie-Hellman key distribution on H.323, H.320 and leased lines. Cisco TelePresence Secure Conference is “on” by default. This automatically generates an encrypted call. You know that your call is secure when you see lock icons on your screen. A single lock symbol is displayed for DES. A double lock symbol is displayed for AES. Secure Conference DES and AES are both available in point-to-point calls and multipoint calls on ISDN and IP up to 768 kbps on the full Cisco TelePresence product line. Avoid curtains, windows or doors, or distracting artwork in the background. Take into consideration that the participants are facing the screen as well as each other. The lighting should be even and bright. Avoid strong backlighting. The par-ticipants should not be placed in front of a window or other lighting sources. You should also avoid placing light sources directly oover the participants, as this leads to distracting shadows on the participants face. You can improve lighting by having light colored, but not bright, walls, covering any windows with curtains, and ensuring that the source of lighting is out of the picture shot.

You may add up to four video calls and three phone calls using embedded MultiSite. If Multi-Site is not enabled on your unit, you have an option for a software upgrade. You may also be able to use the MultiWay functionality of the Cisco VCS to support multiparty confer-encing. It allows your system to extend point to point calls, or calls which exceed their maximum MultiSite capabilities to conferences on MCUs which are hosted on the network. MultiWay is available with Cisco VCS running at least x4.1 software, the Cisco TelePres-ence MCU with at least V3 software, MXP units with at least F8 software for call launch, Cisco IP Video Phone E20, and participating systems must also support call transfer. You can also create a conference on an external MCU and have participants dial into that call.

Note: This feature requires an electrically movable camera at the far end — i.e. com-munication between two Cisco TelePresence System Profile 1700 MXP units do not provide far end camera control since the camera on this model can only be moved manually.

An indicator appears when you have the floor and disappears when you release the floor. The release floor option makes the floor available for other participants. To change the layout of the conference, select the A icon to select from the options avail-able (4 split, 3 party dual screen, voice switched, or 5+1 split). AutoSplit is the default layout selected to choose the best layout depending on the number of people in the call. If you are connected to a conference on a Cisco TelePresence MCU, enable Farendcam-eracontrols on your endpoint, and use the arrow keys on your remote control to choose between the available layouts.

TohelpTACtoidentifyfixesandprocessRMAsonscreen-relatedissues,pleasefollowthestepsbelowbeforeraisingaticket.Examples of screen issues include incorrect image display, unusual colors, stripes, or any other visual problems. The steps below take you through a process of elimination that allows you to identify the piece of hardware that is at fault (the screen, the cable or the codec) and show you how to gather some technical information that is useful for TAC.

1. Upgrade your codec to the latest software version (it's always best to troubleshoot on the newest software).

2. Check that the monitor is healthy by connecting it to a known healthy output device and verify that the image is displaying correctly. You can connect a 1080p camera directly to the HDMI on the monitor without going through the codec and you should see an image. This is an excellent way of testing both the camera and the monitor.

3. Try a different cable. Check the cable pins (DVI, VGA, HDMI) and if it is a DVI cable make sure you are not using a DVI-A (see image). If you have several types of DVI cables, you should try them all.

4. If the monitor is healthy you should now move on to the codec. Connect the codec to another known healthy monitor and check if the same error occurs here.

5. Try a different output on the codec and see if the problem persists.6. Important: Take a short video clip (for example, on your mobile phone) or a photo

of the problematic video output. Telnet into the codec and copy the output of the ‘xconfig’ and ‘xstatus’ commands. Provide all this information to TAC when you raise the ticket, together with the results of the tests you have done.

By following these steps you help the TAC team to identify and resolve your problem as quickly as possible.

RMAandon-sitescreenrepairforCiscopartnersIf, after following the steps above, you have found that the screen itself has a hardware fault, the RMA process should be initiated. 671: HowdoIinstalltheCiscoTelePresenceTouchcontrollerwithacodecwhenconnectingoverLAN?The following steps should be followed when connecting the Cisco TelePresence Touch controller to a C Series codec or a SX20 when connecting over LAN:

1. Check that you have Software version TC4.1 or later release installed on your C Series codec

2. Restart your codec. The codec goes into an UPnP state for a limited period during restart enabling identification by the Touch controller.

3. Connect the Touch controller to the power adapter.4. Connect the Ethernet cable to the power adapter and a LAN port.5. Connect the Power cable to an AC outlet.6. The Touch controller boots and the window “Select codec to pair with” appears

on the Touch controller display. Codecs which are in pairing mode (UPnP) appears in the list, or you can select a codec manually by typing in the Codec IP address. When a codec is selected, press “Start pairing”. A window appears prompting for administrator password on the codec. You only need to type in the password when you pair the Touch controller to the codec, and not while it is paired.

7. At first time pairing or after codec upgrade the Touch controller downloads software from the codec before it is ready to use.
