Electronic textiles, which have also been called “wearable” computers, have a history of less than 15 years. However, these wearable computers ap-pear to move one step closer to “washable as well” after a UK university produced a prototype gar-ment that integrates electronic micro-devices right into the fabric. Researchers at Nottingham Trent University’s Advanced Textiles Research Group have created a garment fitted with LEDs, as a way to showcase “smart textiles”. Current techniques employ electronic modules which are inserted into clothing after it has already been produced, which can result in the cloth being inflexible and require the module(s) to be removed before wash-ing. However, the Nottingham Trent researchers have developed a way to place a semi-conductor chip actually within the fibers of a yarn. This process produces a smart textile retaining the fabric’s ba-sic characteristics, one of which is “being machine washable” and even tumble dried. In accordance with the research team, this technology could be utilized to monitor chemical reactions and some vi-tal signs for especially medical and sporting assess-ments. The team feels that it could also be used for “illuminated textiles in fashion” which change color depending on the situation. Prof. T. Dias, who leads the Advanced Textiles Research Group at the Uni-versity, said that there are various applications for their technology, including military ones.

Türk tekstil sektörünün 2013 öngörüleri pozitif

Positive sector projections for 2013

What are your predictions and expectations for the textile sector in 2013?“In 2010 and 2011, the worldwide crisis resulted in a regression in the textile sector as in all other sectors. The economic crisis in Europe, as the market of the Turkish textile sector, and the Far Eastern low price policy brought along tough days for our domestic sector. Many compa-nies downsized and Turkish textile machines were sold out to countries such as Bangladesh, India, Indonesia, and Uzbekistan, which expe-rienced a boom in textile. After the last quarter of 2011, Europe’s efforts to overcome the cri-

sis, the low quality of Far Eastern textiles, and the long terms brought along by geographic distances accelerated the upwards motion of the Turkish textile sector. So, it can be said that 2012 was a year of revival for Turkish tex-tile. State-of-the-art machines we purchased in place of the sold machines. The decreased production costs brought along by these new generation machinery turned back the textile sector into its profitable shape. For instance, the amount of water utilized by dye shops for 1kg cotton fabric used to be 95-100 liters. Thanks to new generation machines, we are

now able to carry out the dyeing process with 40-45 liters, allowing us to make serious savings in water, energy, and chemicals. In consider-ation of these developments, we believe and expect that 2013 will be a year of success for the textile sector, and hence, the producers of textile machinery. 2013 is going to be a year, in which relative improvement and technol-ogy renewal investments will continue in the entire textile sector. In the present day with competition rising as never before, energy-saving processes equipped with state-of-the-art machines and equipments allowing for cost-efficient productions will get even more attractive and hold a considerable share in the market. As a producer of machines and equipments, our major target of this year is to improve and develop our traditional dyeing and finishing processes.”

What are the regulations or studies to be carried out for a more productive sector?“Nowadays, Turkish textile machine produc-ers are obviously on the same technology and design level as European companies. In this context, one of the actions to e taken is to raise awareness of national investment to feature the chances provided by Turkish textile machine producers, while directing foreign investments towards national invest-ments. Another issue is that low-quality Far Eastern machines, which seem preferable as they decrease production costs, but ac-tually bring along increased operation and maintenance costs accompanied by a weak after-sales performance, continue their increasing existence in Turkey’s core textile regions, which is really regrettable. Some measures to be taken against this

problem may include high performance criteria and extra taxes applied to imported machines.”

What are your considerations about the roadmap that has to be followed for an increased market share?“Turkish textile machines rank among the ma-jor studies that have to be carried out to raise brand awareness, enhance brand image, in-crease our market share, and have a voice in the market. All this stands in direct proportion to country image: the stronger the country image, the stronger will our voice get.”

Anything else that you would like to add?“Studies have to be carried out for foreign for-ward sales. These sales need to be guaranteed or insured by government aid. Certain financial solutions have to be created to prevent the ad-verse effects of installments suffered by produc-ers. Thus, producers will get the chance to im-prove themselves, while expanding their sales network without financial concerns.”

What are your predictions and expectations for the textile sector in 2013?I think that the currently continuing crisis will relieve in 2013, resulting in a revival of the sector. Along with that, I believe that the in-vestments made to new developing markets will yield their fruits before year end. Notably considering the investments to the carpet and carpet yarn production and textile ma-chinery sectors, it seems definitive that we will observe an apparent worldwide increase compared to 2012. I guess that we will be able to get our share from these investments in a most effective way, not only on country basis, nut also on company basis.

What are the regulations or studies to be carried out for a more productive sector? As regards governments, it can be said that governments need to fulfill important tasks to overcome the crisis. Even though a certain in-crease is observed in our country’s exports, a general recession is obvious all over the world. As producers, we have been trying with all our strength to reflect our domestic successes to

foreign markets and to carry our country one step further. Monetary policies and neighbor relations are all factors that directly influence the sectors performance. Unfortunately, they put our businesses to a very challenging point, in conjunction with the current economic cri-sis. In this respect, the major duty falls to Ex-porter Unions. It seems that we need a more comprehensible and rapid mechanism in many respects, notably incentive and sup-port mechanisms. For example, as we put it forth many times before, government support processes stipulate a completely documen-tation-based application mechanism, which is out of date, to put it mildly. Even such mi-nor factors result in inevitable time losses with regard to the labor force of enterprises. Such small problems need to be solved as soon as possible. Another issue that we observed is that we lack sufficient infrastructure at banks and Undersecretariat to deal with foreign demand. A procedure, which actually is sup-posed to progress very smoothly, may get very complicated due to various, almost ridiculous formalities.

a very exhausting set of procedures to grant a loan for foreign customers. Therefore, the cus-tomers usually prefer to do business with our foreign rivals, instead of struggling with all that paperwork. This issue needs to be addressed urgently so that the whole process can be systemized effectively with more reasonable conditions and more appropriate proce-dures. Besides, we should provide solutions by bringing together our own textile producers with our own textile machinery manufactur-ers. If we can offer our investors more attrac-tive loan and/or support chances for “Made in Turkey” products, we will be able to carry our country even further, which is already holding a determining position in worldwide textile products. Additionally, we will also be able to prevent the popularity of foreign prod-ucts. All other problems seem easy to solve by means of prudent relations to be established between our government and producers.

What are your considerations about the roadmap that has to be followed for an increased market share? As regards producers and country, our first prior-ity should be to know our rivals well. We have to be in close pursuit of their technologies and/or innovations so that we can improve ourselves accordingly. On the other hand, we have to produce band consume relevant, cost-effec-tive products. Along with that, advertising and marketing activities are also playing an impor-tant role. It seems that we – as the entire country – do not attach due importance to domestic and foreign exhibitions. The major principle of our company is based on due importance at-tached to R&D and advertising activities, be-cause one establishes face-to-face contacts with consumers at even simplest exhibitions of simplest markets. This is an important factor. It is very easy to pass over information to people with regards to brand recognition and pro-duction activities. Another important issue is

Hep birlikte birbirimize des-tek olarak ilerlememize devam edeceğimize inancım tam. to follow-up visitors subsequent to events such as exhibitions, seminars etc. The quality of ex-ported products and the after-sales services of machine producers play also a very important role. We can achieve progress if we keep cus-tomer satisfaction at a highest level possible. Otherwise you will be condemned to vanish in short time. I believe that the market share of a company will increase automatically if all aforesaid conditions are fulfilled in due manner.

Anything else that you would like to add?I can say that 2012 was very off-the-wall, in-deed. Many producers were stuck in a diffi-cult situation as result of the economic crisis, Middle Eastern crisis, and resulting market ir-regularities. However, if considered on com-pany basis, I can say that 2012 was quite ac-tive for our region and sector. Many investors continued and even increased their existing investments, which had positive reflections on us as machine producers. Therefore, I don’t

think that we faced many problems in the do-mestic market. But there have been periods, in which we became really hard up for foreign markets. In particular, I can say that produc-tions in the Iranian market – one of the markets in which we are most active - stopped almost completely as result of sanctions that were ini-tiated in the world market in consequence of the Middle Eastern crisis. This has been a very exhausting time for us and other enterprises that do business in this market. Along with that, there is continued boom in the textile produc-tions of Indian and Chinese markets. There-fore, we have been forced to temporarily shift our activities towards these regions. Hereby I would like to extend my thanks for giving us the opportunity of such a joyful interview. Please know that we appreciate your supports very much. I believe that we will continue our prog-ress if we support each other mutually. I have not the least doubt that the IMG family will in-creasingly continue its success.

WE ARE THE BRAND OF THIS COUNTRY“Asteks is Turkey’s first apron-muff produc-ing company founded in 1970. It is one of the companies, the number of which is still limited to 20 worldwide. We have been holding a share of 65 percent in the do-mestic market and have developed our-selves into a company that makes exports to 25 foreign countries. Without doubt, our customers have made huge contribution to our progress. And we will always appre-ciate their support. Therefore, our slogan of 2013 is going to be “WE ARE THE BRAND OF THIS COUNTRY”. Trademarks are indeed the most important value of a country. The continuance and existence of them is es-sential for the future, for our children.

What are your predictions and expectations for the textile sector in 2013?“For 2013, we expect that the quantity of productions in our country’s textile sector will continue to decrease, while the natural increase in countries with low labor and en-ergy costs will continue. Along with that, we have been observing at foreign exhibitions that the image of first-quality Made-in-Turkey products is on a rapid rise in worldwide tex-tile markets and that especially home textile products approach their deserved price lev-els thanks to their high added value and top qualities. From this point of view, I think that

the adverse effect of probable quantitative decreases in 2013 will be compensated by the added value brought along by quali-tative products. Besides, the Turkish textile sector still stands firm despite of all adverse predictions of certain state officials, which shows that our country is indeed a country of textile and that textile will continue to be one of Turkey’s locomotive sectors.”

What are the regulations or studies to be carried out for a more productive sector?“It is not possible to give a quick answer to this question because there are many things

And we need to get a proper understanding of the prob-lems we face today. Second, we should de-velop short-, mid-, and long-term solutions and implement them with resolution.”

What are your considerations about the roadmap that has to be followed for an increased market share?“The government needs to carry out serious studies and provide financial support to en-courage companies in terms of international branding, patents, registrations etc. As result, improved branding will support and main-

What are your assessments about 2012 as regards sector and company?“As ENTEMA, we can say that the textile finish-ing machines sector had a better year in 2012 compared to the depressed previous years. As result of our continuous R&D activities, we have been able to obtain patents for our products including carpet, upholstery, blan-ket, and towel textiles; we experienced the happiness to put them at the disposal of do-mestic and foreign textile sectors as of 2012.

What are your predictions and expectations for the textile sector in 2013?“The Turkish textile and clothing sector has been serving as the locomotive of growth and employment ever since the 1960’s. The sector’s important aspect as regards employment is that it provides employment for female labor farces; which plays a very significant role in the development of our country. The chance to

adopt a labor- and machine-intense work atti-tude along with flexible productions in line with changing demands have been making huge contributions to scale economies. Depend-ing on the sector’s structure, companies have been able to outsource their productions to small companies of countries with lower labor costs. Thus, they gained the chance to main-tain a core labor force without the need for immense investments or labor costs. Thereby, companies have been able to meet seasonal demand increases without being suffering ex-tra cost loads. All these aspects prove that the sector will experience huge growth in 2013 and the years to come. The textile sector has been exposed to the pressure of global competition as result of the embargo removed from Chinese goods. Trying to resist this pressure, the sector had no choice but to offer its textile and similar products at reasonable prices and qualities in foreign markets. The Turkish economy seems to adopt a more moderate trend of revival in 2013 compared to 2012. According to the past ex-port figures published by TÜİK, the textile sector (with annual foreign sales of over 10 billion dol-lars) makes up one third of the country’s overall exports. Besides, numerous economists predict that the crisis in Europe will continue even more severe. This will lead to a shift of demand to-wards Turkey and Middle East. So, we can say that a significant increase can be expected in

2013. This huge growth of the textile sec-tor will contribute to several areas, nota-ble sub-sectors. This momentum will also result in an increased number of textile machines. We need to support all poli-cies that intend to increase the market share of textile machines in world mar-kets, while requiring a certain cash flow. In this respect, no mobilization is expect-ed by business chambers and associa-tions before the second quarter of 2013. First of all, we have to solve the problem of bad checks. Besides, government policies on taxes and incentives should address and encourage the develop-ment of Turkish industry.”

What are the regulations or studies to be carried out for a more productive sector?“Efficiency” is an issue that requires ra-tional assessment in every area; that needs to be discussed not on company, but country level. The basic reason of welfare established in economically de-veloped countries stands in direct asso-ciation with the efficient use of sources. An increased level of efficiency will con-tribute to factors such as growth rate, higher living standards, lower inflation rates, and balance of payments. Devel-

oped countries attach huge importance to in-creased efficiency in order to set higher coun-try standards, stabilize their existing economic status, and secure their future. In this respect, the fundamental conditions of efficiency in-clude the economic exploitation of all produc-tion sources without wasting them. Hence, all people engaged in any business sector, nota-bly the textile sector, shall be informed on ef-ficiency and any other topics related thereto, while raising the awareness of all personnel ranging from the lowest level to top manage-ment officers. Indeed, the major part of Turkey’s employment is met by the textile sector. All im-provements in this sector will have a close im-pact on the general. A major contribution of in-creased efficiency is the elimination of “under the counter” productions. Such enterprises are the direct cause of skilled labor being under-mined, increased unrecorded economy, and higher production losses. These companies reduce the general quality level and create unfair competition. The sector’s efficiency de-creases consequently. Professional standards must be introduced to get rid of this problem.”

What are your considerations about the roadmap that has to be followed for an increased market share?“Market share is the most important success cri-teria of companies. The best way to get an idea of a company’s profitability is to look at its market share. The way to increase a company’s profit-ability and market share in the long term goes through marketing activities and investments in trademark image. Advertising is the most im-portant marketing activity. Advertisement is a public means of communication and helps to introduce any marketable goods to the public. Besides, it plays a very important role in shaping of a good’s value in the eyes of the consumer, because it helps to establish a close relationship between the consumer and the goods. When placing an ad, companies should abstain from deceiving the customer. Otherwise, all efforts will be for nothing. Another aspect significant for increased market share is standardization. Standardization means to identify the basic di-mensions and features of a product or service and to achieve uniformity in accordance with said dimensions and features. Since standard-

ized products are easy to market, it helps to save time and money. This includes all sector com-ponents ranging from public to private. In other words, the standardization of textile machines and parts to a substantial extent will play an important role in product quality, along with the standardization of textile products. Besides, oth-er significant issues in terms of increased market share include followings: focusing on customer needs and demands, taking rapid action in every aspect, being open to innovation, and adopting a coherent strategy.”

What are your assessments about 2012 as regards sector and company?“As result of economic and financial reforms introduced in the 1980’s, the Turkish textile and clothing sector has gained an internationally widespread production volume in line with a flexible mode of production. Meanwhile, it has developed itself into an important part of the global textile production network. But the sec-tor was interrupted by the pressure of global competition as result of China being released from embargoes in 2005. Accompanied by

the impact of the economic crises that the world went through during the last 15 years, this problem got even worse and its effects continued in 2012. Therefore, this sector – as Tur-key’s locomotive – tended to regress. Funda-mental reasons of the regression in the textile sector: Demand imbalance notably caused by globalization and financial/political poli-cies adopted in Turkey. Besides, meaningless subsidy supports are also creating an imbal-ance of supply and demand. As result of all aforementioned reasons, unemployment (as a chronic problem of the sector), unrecorded employment, and worsening working condi-tions have continued their existence during 2012. Despite of all these negative develop-ments, the textile sector is well capable to overcome these problems thanks to its deep-rooted know – how, skills, and knowledge. In 2013, the sector should adopt an appropriate attitude to reveal its real potential. The crises faced by this sector should be evaluated tak-ing into account under which circumstances these crises broke out and how they influence the sector’s working conditions.”

“There seems to be stagnation if we look at the end of 2012, but the textile sector gener-ally moves with ups and downs. In the past, we used to have seasons and seasonal transi-tions. But this seems to cease for the time be-ing. Rather, the market seems to act in con-nection with economy. This being said, we have not suffered any recession in our sales or targets in general. People continue to invest. And textile investments will continue during 2013. Considering the last two or three years, I do not expect any relapse. Investors will pur-chase new machines as result of technologic improvements and ageing machines. In the general sense, the real problem is finance. Payment difficulties have adverse effects on investors. The recently enacted Check Law contributed to the emergence of these prob-lems, because you lack the opportunity to im-pose sanctions. First of all, the environment of trust needs to be reestablished with regard to payments. If this is achieved, trade turnovers will reach a faster course in my opinion. Our textile business will continue in parallel. The places, where we can sell products, are defi-nite. Our major purchaser is Europe. The textile sector will continue its existence in Turkey. The textile sector might leap up if we could suc-ceed in our search for further markets.”

What are your predictions and expectations for the textile sector in 2013?“We predict that 2013 will be a year, in which we will feel the impacts of the economic re-cession faced in Europe. Since Turkey had a relatively better year in 2012, many Euro-pean companies made efforts to enhance their businesses in Turkey. We can say that

the endeavors of these companies to do business in Turkey will turn into partnerships and, sometimes, into competition. Besides, last year’s political developments in our neighboring countries created an adverse effect on our dealings. It is very likely that we are going to feel these continued adverse effects in Iranian and Syrian markets.”

What are the regulations or studies to be carried out for a more productive sector?“The current conjuncture reveals that com-panies won’t be able to survive by provid-ing their products and services to the do-mestic market only. As the most important of all sources, export continues to rank first in this respect. But to get success in foreign markets, we are required to carry out more mergers and joint projects. The benefits thereof can be observed in many areas incl. fairs, marketing, and production activities.”

What are your considerations about the roadmap that has to be followed for an increased market share?“It is not hard to see that profit margins de-crease and will regress even more or that the global distresses of economy will bring along decreased demand. The most im-portant way out is to decrease our costs. Yet not by compromising quality or to the burden of employees and/or suppliers, but by increased productivity. We need to prove ourselves and create demand by means of innovations and designs at

competitive prices, abstaining from even the slightest imitating mentalities.”

What are your assessments about 2012 as regards sector and company?“It was e period, in which we witnessed that more than one deep-rooted company, very well known to all of us, had to close down. We can say that we closed the year with a growth rate parallel to our country’s econ-omy due to difficulties in the collection of revenues and decreased profit margins. We have been forced to engage more capital into our businesses due to the capital load increasing with each passing day and the increasing special consumption taxes ap-plied to the products produced and sold by our mineral oil group. Thus, the capital sums that were initially intended for R&D, invest-ment, and marketing purposes had to be paid as advance tax to the government at the very purchase of raw materials.”

Anything else that you would like to add?“I hope that 2013 will be a productive year for both our country and producers.”

tries like Syria, Iran, Eygpt deal with shows us clearly that the textile companies in Turkey will have good amount of orders and they won’t face any problem in the long term. Moreover, Turkey has always been one step ahead of those countries in terms of quality. Quality is the most important criteria. If we maintain this quality and even enhance it, we will always remain as a successful country. In short, 2013 will be a bright year for textile importers.”

What are the missions or arrangements for the sector to be more productive?“We should increase exportation. We pro-duce high class machines that can be sold all over the world. We have begun to win tenders abroad by proving how advanced our qual-ity level is. We should make up our shortage of marketing and sell much more than this.”

Could you share your opinions about the strategic road map to increase market share?“ It seems now that the most buoyant mar-kets are Brazil, Bangladesh and Indonesia. Pakistan is also struggling to gain quality production and this will be a good market for us. There are many more countries that we can consider as important markets. We should definitely participate in the fairs there with the machines. We gain much more positive results from the fairs we at-tend with machines. It is high in cost but the return is much quicker. Furthermore, there is a point that we have to pay atten-tion. We should focus merely on one coun-try and be patient. We can surely go to ev-ery market in the world but we should have priorities. If we concentrate on a certain market, we begin to receive a share quick-

The sale becomes easier after we de-velop a reference in time. What is more, we should complete some of the parts which are missing in presentation. We can’t rep-resent out machines well enough. Our presentations have some deficiencies. We should improve ourselves in this subject. We should work more actively by choosing the proper representatives. The represen-tatives are of great importance. We should work with the right representative.”

Could you evaluate the year 2012 as the sector and a company?“2012 was such an intensive year for us. We sent 60 per cent of our products to various countries as part of our exportation. We

worked really hard. We mainly worked for Germany, Russia and Belarus. We attended the ITMA Fair held in Spain in September, 2011. With the effect of the fair, we made a rapid entrance to 2012. We attended the ITMA Fair held in İstanbul in April, 2012. It was very lively and everybody obtained positive results from the fair. It was also positive for us. Shortly after the fair, we landed a HT Jig-ger sale to a company in Germany. We ex-ported some machines to Germany a few times. The thing that makes us happy here is that German textile producers prefer Turk-ish machines. This is an indication that the quality of Turkish mechanic has come to a level to compete with the world. We par-ticipated in India ITME Fair held in India with our machine towards the end of 2012. The fair was quite good and our machine drew great interest. Besides, we sold our machine in the fair. Apart from this, we negotiated with the biggest producers of India. Indian market is really hard but it is of vital impor-tance and we should focus more on it.”

You may add extra information if you wish.I would like to imply it insistently that the most important criteria to be accepted world wide is only by standing on the quality. Quality is the most important criteria. Price should come second. It is always better to struggle for the best quality and to be proved right in the long run instead of producing a cheap-jack ma-chine and dissappearing in the market. This is the philosophy of Memnun Machinery.”

What are your predictions and expectations for the textile sector in 2013?“We expect that 2013 will be more productive than the previous year. But it seems that con-cerns, which gained frequency in economic circles towards the end of the year, fearing that the US and Europe might experience a new crisis wave in the coming year, will push Turkish companies towards a cautious atti-tude. The fact that EU funds and ready-made clothing companies are planning to invest more and that the adverse effects of the 2009 crisis have been going down in Eastern Euro-pean countries such as the Ukraine, Poland, and Romania, where we have been export-ing our products, shows that we are especially going to be active in this region. On the other hand, we believe that the mobility of the tex-tile sector in countries such as Uzbekistan and Azerbaijan, where we have been making im-mense exports, will continue as it is.”

What are the regulations or studies to be carried out for a more productive sector?“We must definitively enhance the use of do-mestic machines in textile productions. To that end, domestic machine manufacturers need to be supported at a higher degree. There is a need for protective measures such as the “Prod-

Thus, textile and clothing companies will get the chance to decrease their produc-tion costs while gaining price advantage thanks to machines and equipments purchased at far cheaper investment costs. Besides, we could get the chance to make cheaper, but more quality productions by means of increased gov-ernment assistance in investment and R&D ac-tivities for the establishment of facilities in cheap labor regions. And machine manufacturers should support the sector by means of produc-tions carried out in line with the demands and needs of customers. As regards machinery and equipments, it is essential that our foreign-source dependency, which started to decrease in the last years, is reduced even more.”

What are your considerations about the roadmap that has to be followed for an increased market share?“Of course, as our primary target, we need to continue our studies without compromising branding. This is the first and most important pre-condition for an increased market share in the international arena. For that purpose, the gov-ernment should canalize its supports and incen-

tives towards quality-improving investments and R&D activities. At this point, all companies have to be very transparent and honest; not misus-ing and wasting away the finance sources that have been established with hundreds of difficul-ties. Moreover, we have to minimize our costs for sustainable competition. Thus, we won’t get into price disadvantage against Far Eastern prod-ucts. To that end, we have to place emphasis on savings and carry out studies on energy ef-ficiency. And we believe that the government should generate new incentive projects in ad-dition to currently applied supports and incen-tives, while continuing to motivate and direct related organizations towards this direction.”

Anything else that you would like to add?“We have been experiencing serious delays in the payment of government supports and incentives that are granted to industrial enter-prises in the form of reimbursements. In particu-lar, the reimbursement of exhibition and market research supports granted trough the DTM and KOSGEB takes not months, but years. Therefore, it is very important that the reimbursements payable to SMEs such as us in return for expens-es, which are financed from their own equity capital with huge difficulties, are paid within

“Contrary to all expectations, the textile sec-tor is in progress. Theses such as the Turkish textile sector would clap out, that we could not compete with the Far East etc. have all failed. Turkey continues its leading position. To get evidence, look at new investments. Factories that have been shut down are re-placed by plants of larger scale. The sector continues its title of being the sector with the highest added value. Considering the sec-tors that seem ahead in terms of turnover, one can see that the turnover is import based and that their added value is low. However, the imported items of the textile sector de-crease with each passing day and are pro-cured from the domestic market. Look at the textile machinery sector for instance. Nowa-days, many machines, that used to be im-ported, are being produced in our country. Therefore, I am sure that 2013 will be a year of progress for the textile sector. Well, aren’t

there any problems? Of course, there are a lot, indeed. Major problems are raw material procurement and energy bottleneck. Nota-bly, energy is leasing to increased sector costs and foreign competitiveness goes against us with each passing day. In this regard, a major task falls to our government. We have to find alternative sources to decrease the costs of energy expenses. To prevent unfair competition, subsidies have to be granted for the textile sector both in terms of electric-ity and natural gas. I’m sure that there will be nothing to stop the Turkish textile sector if we could bring our energy expenses to the lev-el of rival countries. Indeed, our sector has reached a well-settled structure with regard to technology and experience. As a com-pany serving for this sector, we have been making our investments to that end; accom-panied by efforts to increase our domestic and foreign market share in 2013.”

yaparak ‘ Made in Tukey’ açıklaması ile ürün satan firmalar cezalandırılmalı.

What are your predictions and expectations for the textile sector in 2013?“I think that a tough year is awaiting us. Not only the textile sector, but all sectors in gen-eral. Let’s hope that I’m wrong.”

What are the regulations or studies to be carried out for a more productive sector?“I believe that producing companies need real support. I don’t mean the contributions granted by KOSGEB at rates of 50% or at other rates. Companies are supposed to pay their exhibition, travel expenses etc. at 100%. But the reimbursement thereof by KOSGEB takes a whole year. I don’t think that this can be considered as support in the real sense. Such expenses need to be financed from the very beginning. Besides, such supports are also leading to increased exhibition prices etc. Therefore, I don’t take them as support in the real sense. Companies, which sell imported

products as ‘Made in Turkey’ after having carried out slight modifications, should be punished. Solutions need to be created for companies that cannot do business due to costs increased by those who make imports with 100% invoices and bring in materials at low prices. Companies, which employ only insured personnel and pay their contributions at the ratio of actual personnel wages instead of minimum wage, should get support. I’m in the midst of a sector, where people appoint professional photographers to take pictures for their websites and eventually have to pay for this; where the pictures on a com-pany’s website are copied and used by other companies. I believe that the business life of people who lack earnestness, who commit such acts should be prevented somehow. We should uncover all those people together with their companies. We won’t be able to solve any problem as long as we don’t do this.”

What are your considerations about the roadmap that has to be followed for an increased market share?“It is of crucial importance that ex-porting companies, which bring Turk-ish products and services into disre-pute, are put away from the sector. Besides, the problems I mentioned above need to be solved. This system, where earnest companies are pun-ished with increased prices, needs to be reviewed and corrected.”

What are your assessments about 2012 as regards sector and company?“It was a year, in which unfair competi-tion continued its systematic course. My company confronted and is still con-fronting all the problems I mentioned above. Therefore, I don’t really believe that the associations, magazines etc. of my sector are capable to produce an effective solution. Believe me, even to write these seems a loss of time to me.”

We still have not managed to get rid of the inferiority complex that is so typical for developing countries. The first thing to do is to get rid of it. We have to trust in the skills of Turkish people. We won’t be able to reach our target figures unless we create added value and technologies. I have full trust in Turk-ish industrialists and am sure that we will succeed as long as the field is left clear for us and available resources are canalized to proper places.”In his speech at the meeting, TOBB Ma-chine Committee Chairman Merih Es-kin emphasized that the sector needs

Zor bir sektör olmasına rağmen, sektörde faaliyet gösteren firma temsilcilerinin, her türlü platformda sorunlarını dile getirmesi gerektiğini belirtti. the value-added productions, especially the machine sector. He noted that the representa-tives of the sector’s companies should be able to point out their problems at every platform despite the difficulties of the sector. Besides, he also mentioned that R&D project works might help to solve problems in shorter time and at lower costs, adding that he will dedicate himself to continuous collaboration for that purpose. İHKİB Chairman İsmail Gülle provided infor-mation on the Turkish textile sector from past to present. Pointing out that the adventure of textile productions, which got its start with domestic machines, continues with foreign machines nowadays, Gülle said that do-mestic manufacturers have been facing

serious problems with regard to the use of domestic machines. He noted that domes-tic machine manufacturers are supposed to be more cautious at this point and that our machine manufacturers fail to express them-selves properly. With an emphasis on the se-rious struggles regarding imports, Gülle said “We believe and invest in the sector’s future. You should too, and continue to work with determination. Now, we have to change switches, shift up gears. We need to believe each other and express ourselves properly.” At the end of the meeting, the TEMSAD Chair-man and some board members awarded plaques to certain persons and corporations for their contributions to the sector.

Nil, Mısır’ın can damarı. Bazı riskler her yerde vardır. Risk almadan ticaret yapamaz-sınız. Bazı konularda zaman çok önemlidir. Ata sözümüzü de hatırlatmak isteriz; “Erken Kalkan Yol Alır.” Treni kaçırmamalı, “Keşke”

dememeliyiz. Çünkü makine ile fuara katılan her Türk firması sıcak satış gerçekleştirdi. visitors consisted of Syrians. In terms of order, plan, and program, the EGY Stitch& Tex has been really as good as European exhibitions. The exhibition, the second of which is going to take place during 27th February – 2nd March 2014, signaled the coming of a huge success with its performance in 2013. I believe strongly that Turkey will show more powerful participa-tion in 2014. Hereby I would like to extend my thanks to both the entire team of Egypt’s Vi-sion Fairs and all Turkish publishing partners, and wish a successful year to all participants who believed in us and always stood by us.” In fact, Egypt is a textile country just like us. We cannot ignore this. The world’s longest fiber cotton grows in this country. The Nil is Egypt’s sum and substance. Moreover, Egypt

is among the places where textile came to life for the first time. A country in such close connection with textile constitutes a very important and strategic market for all Turk-ish manufacturers of textile machines and equipments, who have been trying to in-crease their exports and find new markets. All locations bear certain risks. You cannot do business without taking risk. Time is of crucial importance in some issues. As in the proverb: “The early bird catches the worm.” We must not miss the train; we must not re-gret any act we omitted. It’s is quite true that Arabs are not very hardworking, that buyers tend to bargain at bit too much, that there is a lack of information, and that machine breakdowns caused by wrong use are a frequent issues. But we have to adopt a teaching, conscious-raising, and patient at-titude. It is not easy to diminish certain hab-its. Weren’t we the same 30 – 40 years ago? The exhibition took place in 5 integrated halls. Being categorized according to production types, the exhibition appeared well-ordered and organized. We can say that it was the best well-ordered exhibition that we have ever seen in Egypt. The organization, house-keeping, security, and services did all a very good job. We wished that our manufactur-ers of finishing machinery had exhibited their products at this fair. ‘Cause Turkish compa-nies attending the fair with their machines have all been able to make hot sales. All these show that better, more organized, and more orderly Egyptian fairs await us in future.

Baykim EgyStitch&Tex Fuarı’ndan memnun

Baykim satisfied of Egy Stitch&Tex Mehmet Tatlı

to Egypt in 2012 on these grounds, Mr. Nida Yıldızoğlu, owner of Baykim, said that they started to establish business connections with diverse textile com-panies thanks to aforementioned visits. Mr. Yıldızoğlu pointed out that they de-cided to participate in Egy Stitch&Tex thinking that it would accelerate their progress in the Egyptian market, and said that this exhibition will give them the chance to access much more cus-tomers, while introducing their com-pany and products at a supreme level. Noting that the exhibition met their ex-pectations, Mr. Yıldızoğlu answered our questions about the exhibition:

Did the exhibition meet your expectations? What did you expect? “We thought that the exhibition would go rather tranquil due to the current political instability in Egypt. But con-trary to our expectations, the exhibition turned out to be very buoyant from the first to the last day. We got the chance to establish very efficient business con-nections. Meanwhile, we have been able to reach companies that failed to reach before. The exhibition made very positive contributions to our company’s introduction to the textile sector.”

Mısır tekstil sektörünün ileride size ne tür faydalar getireceğini düşünüyorsunuz?“Mısır’daki satışlarımızı şu an Türkiye’den yap-maktayız.

What are your considerations about the Egyptian market? “We can see that the labor-intensive textile sector is still a virgin sector in Egypt, where labor costs continue to be low. We think that there will be rapid growth in the Egyptian textile sec-tor, after the country regains its political stabil-ity. It is obvious that this growth will bring along an improvement in sub-industries. At this point, we think that Egypt will go through major im-provements in the field of textile chemicals. As in every other field, we can observe that textile chemicals are among the most wanted Turkish goods ranking first in demand. “It must be first quality if it’s made in Turkey” has been a phrase that we hear more and more.”

Which benefits will the Egyptian textile sector bring for you? “Currently, we are carrying our sales in Egypt

from Turkey. This exhibition has been an op-portunity for us to get various agency, fran-chise, and partnership offers. We think that we could adopt a franchise system in the short term, followed by plans to make production investments in Egypt in the long term. We think that this country should be considered as a gate opening to Central and South Africa.”

What are your general assessments about the exhibition? “First of all, I have to say that this exhibition was very beneficial for all our companies. It is obvious that the exhibition took place in a calm and very fructuous atmosphere for all Turkish companies, despite of the political problems in Egypt. We hope to take part in the next exhibition and wish that our connec-tions that we established during the exhibi-tion are put into practice as soon as possible”.

DTG 2013 Fuarı, 31 Ocak – 03 Şubat 2013 ta-rihleri arasında Bangladeş’te gerçekleştirildi. Türkiye’den 19 firmanın katıldığı fuar, firmaları-mız açısından başarılı geçti. DTG 2013 Fuarı’na katılan TEMSAD Heyeti, fuara katılan firmaları-mızın sorunlarıyla yakından ilgilenerek çözüm yolları aradı. Fuar öncesi Bangladeş’e ulaşan TEMSAD Heyeti, T.C. Büyükelçiliğini ziyaret ede-rek Ticaret Müşaviri Tülay Uyanık ve ikinci Sek-reter Adnan Öztürk ile görüştü. Görüşmede, üyelerin bu ülkede yaşadığı sıkıntılar dile geti-rildi. Heyet, yetkililere firmalarımızın yaşadıkları sıkıntılar hakkında şunları aktardı. Özellikle her

Bangladesh hosted the DTG 2013 during 31st January – 03rd February 2013. The exhibition, in which 19 Turkish companies participated, was a success for all our companies. The TEMSAD Committee visited the DTG 2013 and involved closely with the problems of participating Turk-ish companies to search for appropriate solu-tions. The TEMSAD Committee went to Bangla-desh before the exhibition’s opening day and paid a visit to the Turkish Embassy to meet Mrs. Tülay Uyanık, Commercial Counselor, and Mr. Adnan Öztürk, Vice Secretary. In this meeting, the Committee voiced the problems faced

by the members in this country. The problems brought forward by the Committee included followings: high guarantee prices for ma-chines in particular; gas shortage across the country; and the need to include a clause to sales agreements, which should stipulate the release of L/Cs upon delivery of the machines to the customs. Otherwise, the L/C fails to be released after the goods enter the customs and the goods cannot recall them from the customs. Therefore, sales contracts should pro-vide that an L/C is released right at the mo-ment, when the goods enter customs. Besides,

Fuara, Dilmenler, Elteksmak, Eliar, Proteknik, Özanadolu, Has group, Ataç, Canlar, Dalga-kıran, Karmak, Alkan, Kavurlar, Enmos, Sulfet stand açarak, KTM, Serteks, Taç makine, Elekt-romekanik, Timtaş ise mümessilleriyle katıldı.

the Committee emphasized that transport fees were too expensive and that this problem could be solved by foreign trade counselors. The opening of the exhibition suffered a de-lay due to problems caused by a work pro-hibition as result of a strike that was declared on grounds of political dissidences. In conse-quence, the exhibition was opened at noon-time and the expected visits took place in the afternoon. The second day, Mrs. Tülay Uyanık, Turkish Commercial Counselor, visited the fair-

ground and had a meeting with Mr. Vural Sağır, TEMSAD Secretary General. Mr. Sağır informed her of the problems and requests in relation to the exportation of machines. Thereafter, they visited Turkish participating members to hear their individual problems. The Commercial Counselor and TEMSAD had a meeting with the fair organization and logistic company. As result, the members of TEMSAD were granted a discount of 20% in logistic prices. At the interviews that were carried out with participating members on the exhibition’s 3rd day, the companies expressed their satisfac-tion about the market in general, despite of certain minor problems. The fair organization tried their best to solve these problems. The participants and the TEMSAD Committee were very glad of the intense visitor potential that lasted till the exhibition’s last day. Tak-ing advantage of the fact that many foreign companies closed their booths at early hours, all Turkish participants kept their booths and machines open until the very last minute. Dilmenler, Elteksmak, Eliar, Proteknik, Özan-adolu, Has group, Ataç, Canlar, Dalgakıran, Karmak, Alkan, Kavurlar, Enmos, and Sulfet participated in the exhibition by booths, while KTM, Serteks, Taç makine, Elektromekanik, and Timtaş participated through their agencies.

We had very significant acquisitions in terms of energy, water and chemicals and we lowered the level of our carbon footprint in our production. We continue to our projects

in collaboration with İnci Project Engineering, Consultancy Company. When the Eco-Dye-house Guide book is published, we would like to serve as a model for other companies with our works. Small, big, there are always amelio-ration works to do. These amelioration works at the same time provide financial returns to the company. In this booklet, we also specified the returns of the investments. For upcoming days, let’s realize Plan A with M&S Plan A mis-sion. Because there is not a Plan!”

in Shanghai in June 2012, an important show for the industry. At the show STOLL also suc-cessfully launched an innovative prototype of the new STOLL machine generation with live demonstrations of the newly developed yarn feeder technology that met with great interest among experts. This also allowed the traditional Swabian company to substantiate its new trademark and the new brand iden-tity “Knit ahead”, both of which were devel-oped this year as well. Consequently STOLL was again able to live up to its aspiration of always being one step ahead without losing sight of the long-standing customer relation-ships. This benefits not only the company itself, but also STOLL customers, who can always be one “stitch” ahead of their competition. “2012

Stoll marka isimli şirketler, örme giyim tasarımcıları, perakendeciler, ve sürekli know how transferi gerçekleştiren üniversite-lerden oluşan ağını kullanıyor.

ware solutions, trend collections, training and financing models. A company that is known for countless technological innovations in the industry must also always be looking ahead with regard to service, fashion, design, and financing. With a competent service team, STOLL offers its customers a worldwide service network with individual consultation and solu-tions to their problems. STOLL is also a compe-tent and inspiring partner in regard to fashion with its trend collections and fashion and tech-nology centres in Reutlingen and New York. STOLL uses a network of brand-name compa-nies, knitwear designers, retailers and universi-ties for a continuous transfer of know-how.

Successful and yet not conceitedA success story like STOLL’s is not written by chance: more than 1000 STOLL employees worldwide, a wide range of apprenticeships, several hundred patents and inventions, and many satisfied customers are the result of a continuous development process in the spirit of the inventive genius of founder Heinrich Stoll. Important milestones in the history of the com-pany are, for example, the Jacquard device,

the first computer-controlled flat-knitting ma-chine, the world’s first professional pattern prep-aration system, the first computer-controlled knitting machine (CMS) and the capability to knit technical textiles on flat-knitting machines. But the company does not keep his ideas and innovations secret; rather it lets customers, stu-dents and other interested parties share in his knowledge. STOLL offers, for example, lectures at universities and guided tours of the fashion and technology centres, and provides ma-chines for students free of charge. The tradition-al Swabian company has also been strongly committed to social issues for years: STOLL sup-ports the SOS Children’s Villages organisation and purchases various components from the LWV Eingliederungshilfe GmbH workshop for disabled people in Rappertshofen and from the Bruderhaus Diakonie Stiftung Gustav Wer-ner und Haus am Berg directly in Reutlingen.

new generation of machines: pilot installa-tions of the CMS ADF-3 machine type with newly developed yarn feeder technology have been set up at the first customers and the machine is drawing ever closer to its of-ficial launch in summer 2013. In typical STOLL fashion the new machine will only come to market after the strategic tests within these pilot projects are adequately successful to guarantee that customers can work effi-ciently with the machine from the outset. The preceding coordination process for the new generation of machines involves very close cooperation with the customers because they have always been important partners in the development of new knitting machines for STOLL. Deliveries of the new generation of STOLL machines with independently driv-en yarn feeders that can be moved to any height and in addition can be set to various positions with respect to the lock will start in 2013. This opens up a host of new possibilities for plating, multi-gauge applications, and in-tarsia knitting, such as smaller colour areas, reverse plating and intarsia plating. The tra-ditional manufacturer of knitting machines

has combined all existing STOLL yarn feeder functions in this innovation to offer the knitting industry limitless combinations together with the freedom to quickly and cost-effectively execute patented new and established knit-ting styles. In the CMS ADF-3 each of the yarn feeders is driven by two independent motors and both their heights and their relative trav-eling positions can be freely programmed. Each yarn feeder thus not only gains two new degrees of freedom, but can also be redefined for every movement. The diversity of new pattern and colour combinations lets pattern designers, developers, and innova-tive producers of knit products enter new di-mensions in knitting. The high degree of flex-ibility of the yarn feeders also enables new stitches and yarn inserts. In addition, a num-ber of ergonomic improvements unmatched by any other flat-knitting machine make working with the CMS ADF-3 a pleasure: slid-ing rear hoods with integrated bobbin hold-ers and balloon preventers, yarn control de-vices arranged above the machine in the shape of a ‘V’ to ensure non-intersecting yarn paths, and a low working height.

The Multi-Matic® produces sample warps and medium-length warps, and guarantees top quality as well as maximum efficiency – when used for the right application. With its technical configuration, this automat-ic short-, medium- and sample-warping machine operates optimally when used to bridge the gap between the GOM 24 and the Nov-O-Matic (Fig. 1). For example, when processing 8,000 cotton yarns having a length of 406 m and a count of Nm 80 to produce a warp beam having a width of 1.800 m, the Multi-Matic® 128 can increase productivity by 332% compared to the GOM 24. The GOM automatic sectional warping machine operates at its best when process-

ing a small number of yarns and short warp lengths. It therefore operates at the lower limit of the spectrum of uses of the Multi-Ma-tic®. When processing articles having longer warp lengths and more bobbins, the NOM automatic sectional warping machine is in-creasingly more efficient (Fig. 1). KARL MAY-ER has developed the special Expert-System for evaluating which sectional warping ma-chine is the most suitable for the particular job in hand. This performance check can be used as the basis for assessing the produc-tion costs, productivity and economic fea-sibility of jobs. If required, it can be carried out by KARL MAYER’s sales department. The following example shows how it works.

çözgü makinasını eldeki işe en uygun şekil-de kullanabilmek üzere, KARL MAYER özel Expert-System’i geliştirdi. for evaluating which sectional warping machine is the most suitable for the particular job in hand. Gerekirse KARL MAYER’in satış departma-nından yürütülebilir.

Example of using the Expert-System for evaluating jobsCalculating the economic viability of jobs using this new tool is based on the perfor-mance features of the Multi-Matic®. These include its speed of 800 m/min for both warping and leasing, and of up to 150 m/min when beaming. Colour changing also takes place at an ubraked speed of 800 m/min. The machine is available in versions having 64 or 128 running yarns, operates at a maxi-mum working width of 2.200 mm and takes off yarn from standard creels - thus offering a specific performance profile. The following example of the calculations produced by the Expert-System shows the results of evalu-ating the speed, costs and operators’ time involved in processing a shirting product on the Multi-Matic® 64 and a Multi-Matic® 128 compared to processing it on the GOM. The parameters of the warp were as follows: •

Warp length – 406 m • Total number of yarns – 6,974 • Width – 1.800 mm • Yarn count – Nm 83/1 • Material – 100% cotton • Number of different colours – 10.The performance results produced by the Expert-System show that the production rate of the Multi-Matic® is three times high-er than that of the GOM when processing the same article (Figs. 2 – 4). At the same time, the labour and amortisation costs of this new machine in KARL MAYER’s range of sectional warping machines are lower. There is basically no difference in the set-ting-up times, but the machine running time of the GOM is considerably higher. This is particularly true when patterning broad coloured stripes. The comparison of the ratio of the number of warp beams produced to the production length (Fig. 5) clearly shows that the Multi-Matic® is the most productive system for processing the

article shown in the example. The graph also clearly shows how the productivity de-creases as the warp length increases.

The advantages of the Multi-Matic® at a glanceThe Multi-Matic® is as flexible as a sample warping machine, but the possibility of working in parallel when loading packag-es onto a fixed creel, or of using a parallel creel means that the creel setting-up times are reduced, which is advantageous when processing short- and medium-length pro-duction warps. Another advantage is that the warping process runs automatically. As well as rational production, the Multi-Matic® also enables labour and yarn ma-terial costs to be saved, as well as storage costs – because of the compact yarn man-agement system. The Multi-Matic® is also extremely accurate. When producing the warp, the yarns are laid by means of yarn-

laying devices onto the feed belts of the rotating warping drum at an accuracy of 5/100 mm. This system, which is controlled by linear motors, therefore operates about four times more accurately than other well-known sample warping machines. The high-precision yarn-laying devices are also used for leasing of the dividing cords. A new feature is that the yarn feed belt operates at different speeds and can be adapted to different yarn densities and counts and various pattern requirements. Yarns which do not run on the warping drum because they are not needed for the pattern are taken off by the patented cen-tral cord and held under tension. The result of this well-thought-out yarn feed arrange-ment on the Multi-Matic® is that the yarns are placed accurately on the warping drum and the colour can be changed cor-rectly, even at maximum operating speed.

The Multi-Matic® in practiceWith its high production rate when produc-ing sample and production warps of short and medium length, the Multi-Matic® has made a profound impression on the mar-ket. Three machines are now running in Italy since the machine was first premièred at ITMA 2011 in Barcelona. The machine is mainly used for processing high-fashion wool, silk and filament yarns for ladies’ outerwear. Two more machines are sched-uled for delivery to Italy this year. A Multi-Matic® will be shown actually operating at the Heimtextil trade fair from 9 to 12 Janu-ary 2013. KARL MAYER has arranged a ma-chine show and extensive demonstrations at its Hausen site, which will be held at the same time as the trade fair. This presenta-tion is designed to illustrate the productivity and flexibility of this production machine. Visitors to the event will also have plenty of opportunity to discuss any specific plans they may have with KARL MAYER’s techni-cal people and sales consultants. Several bookings have already been taken. The

huge amount of interest being generated by the Multi-Matic® for warp preparation in the weaving sector was also evident from the conference season, which started in the autumn. The conference venues in-cluded the Weaving Colloquium, held at the Institut für Textil- und Verfahrenstech-nik, ITV (The Institute of Textile Technology and Process Engineering) in Denkendorf, Germany, and the conference held by the English Weaving Group in Brighouse, West Yorkshire, UK, both of which took place on 18 October. The delegates listened very carefully to the papers presented by KARL MAYER’s representatives, and asked many questions at the end. Subsequent conversations held during the breaks re-sulted in many promising new ideas for fur-ther projects being generated – enabling KARL MAYER to continue along its success course in the field of warp preparation. More than 300 KARL MAYER sample warp-ing machines and automatic sectional warping machines have already proved to be a great success on the market.

and Dyeing Industry, this hydraulic dyeing ma-chine shows a very high diversity as well as low consumption figures in both water and electric-ity. Right after the release during the ITMA 2011 in Barcelona the development of the TEC series became a vast success story in all the major tex-tile countries. With the latest presentation of the JUMBOTEC the TEC series now offers models for every purpose and every quantity. Changing from the hydraulic to the AIRFLOW system: The mother of this best available technique (B.A.T.), THEN, has also released a new machinery: The LOTUS (for LOng TUbe Sensitive) is the first ever AIRFLOW machine for ultra sensitive fabric. Af-ter extensive trials and calculations THEN was able to integrate the number one concept for saving water and time into the traditional tube design. The result: even the most delicate fabric now can be processed with this environmental friendly technology. Finally, also the third brand of FONG’S EUROPE GMBH has developed and released a new milestone in the continuous open width finishing of textile goods. With the all new SINTENSA (lat. “without tension”) concept from the world famous GOLLER engineering the continuous treatment of knitted goods as

well as technical textiles has defined new stan-dards. The basis of the new concept still is the SINTENSA drum, which produces more washing mechanics than any other drum washer in the market. Besides this superior washing power, which leads to shorter processing times, the fo-cus of this high efficiency washer is set on the gentle fabric transportation. Besides ranges and solutions for knitted goods, the GOLLER brand still sets standards in the continuous open width processing of wovens, including bleach-ing, dyeing and mercerizing. Talking about high quality textile machines, XORELLA marks the top of the available solutions for yarn condi-tioning. The Swiss technology provides custom made answers for any challenge of yarn pro-ducing units. With FONG’S, THEN, GOLLER and XORELLA, FONG’S EUROPE GMBH is providing a One-Stop solution for their customers. With only one supplier the German company offers all the latest Knowhow in continuous, discontinu-ous as well as yarn conditioning to the market. The long tradition of the different brands en-sures a profound experience and always the best solution for the customers in both technol-ogy as well as sustainability.

dividual production steps is just as important as their optimization, extending for example, from the control of the cutting process to inter-nal company logistics related to the delivery of goods. Hardly anyone thinks about surface in-spection as a readily applicable, efficient tool for such purposes. How wrong these thoughts are is demonstrated by new solutions from ISRA VISION. The company’s inspection equip-ment can not only clearly detect and classify the slightest defects at the highest production line speeds, but the real-time inspection data also assist in pre-specifying the production chain in accordance with customer require-ments. These solutions ensure that – in spite of just-in-time production methods – no defec-tive products are delivered to the customer. Spunbond is increasingly required for medical, hygiene and geotextile products. As a result, new spunbond production lines are being in-stalled mostly in the growing markets, or exist-ing production plants are being added on to in order to keep pace with growing local de-mand. The pressure of competition is increas-ing significantly, in particular in the high-end area with its greater quality expectations. Non-woven material is produced with a weight of between 7 g/m2 and 70 g/m2. The variety of colors ranges from natural to white, light blue

to green and even black. It is not unusual for such a variety to be produced on one and the same machine. The production plan is deter-mined by customer orders. The main priority is a cost-efficient delivery within the defined time-frame and one of the standard expectations is a defect-free product of the highest quality. In order to maximize production throughput with greater cost efficiency, the production speeds of newly installed spunbond lines are increas-ing. One single line can produce thousands of square meters of material every day and this can be coupled with rapid changes of pro-duction and integrated in-line coating, which are now state-of-the-art techniques.

Ensuring maximum quality requirementsOnce a mother roll with its inline surface coat-ing has been produced and has passed through the rewinder, the customer-specific bobbin will be generated and delivered to the customer. First though, it must be released by the quality department in the shortest pos-sible time, to ensure there are no complaints about individual rolls or the entire order. De-fects unacceptable to any customer include for example, fruit flies measuring about 0.5 mm x 0.5 mm on hygienic or medical materials, but also hard fibers, eye browns, PP hard pieces,

Her topun kendi kalite raporu vardır.

contamination, surface coating defects, dirt or classic thick and thin areas or holes. It is not unusual for an entire delivery to be rejected as a result of such defects. Penalty clauses are also quite normal, and the good relationship between supplier and customer which has been established and has grown over many years may suffer seriously as a consequence.

Zero-Defect strategy This is where help may be provided by the new generation of the already proven in-spection systems from ISRA VISION. These systems were developed for extremely high line speeds of 1200 m/min, flexible material widths (3200-5200 mm) and the entire range of colors and material thicknesses. 1200 m/min translates into 20 m per second inspec-tion! Even a fruit fly measuring about 0.5 mm x 0.5 mm will not go undetected. To ensure this, these inspection systems use the mar-ket’s fastest cameras available, working at a frequency four times higher than previous technologies. The entire nonwoven surface is subjected to 100 % inspection at top speeds with extremely precise resolution. Even the slightest variations in contrast and color will be detected. The resulting huge volume of data is reliably processed by the powerful SMASH Web Processor, currently the fastest

board available on the market. In this way, even those defects which resemble the ac-tual material structure of the spunbond can be detected. Support is provided by a revo-lutionary lighting concept consisting of indi-vidually switchable white LED lights.

Unique: Optimization of the cutting process and the logisticsWith these innovations, the inspection system detects all critical defects in the spunbond material. As soon as the crystal clear image is displayed, the material defect is detected and captured in the databank with precise position coordinates. It is absolutely critical that this particular piece of defective mate-rial is not shipped to the customer. But how is this implemented, taking into account just-in-time delivery and rapid changes in production? A solution is available to tackle this: The task of the inspection system is not finished once the mother roll has been pro-duced. The inspection data is sent on to the rewinder, where the jumbo receives its coat-ing, and to the slitter, where the mother roll is cut into customer-specific daughter rolls. The operator selects the cutting scheme and the inspection system shows directly which rolls are to be rejected. Each individual bobbin is given its own quality report.

Trützschler’s entry into the business of spinning systems for filament yarns has been success-ful: a long-time customer of SwissTex has con-fidence in Trützschler as well and is placing an initial order for a carpet yarn spinning system. In the second half of 2013, the first BCF positions in proven symTTex technology will be delivered to China under the new name of Trützschler. At the beginning of November, the know-how and personnel of the former SwissTex Winterthur AG was taken over by the Trützschler Man-Made Fibers group. The development, con-struction and marketing of spinning compo-nents and plants for the production of carpet and industrial yarns remain in Winterthur, under the name of Trützschler Switzerland AG. In addi-tion to the business with new plants, Trützschler Switzerland AG attaches great importance to maintenance and further development of the installed BCF and industrial yarn capacities. In recent weeks, the supply of customers through-

out the world with spare parts, modernisation concepts and technical support has been ensured to the absolute satisfaction of the mar-kets, and continues to be paramount.
