Look who’s in the SPOTLIGHT
Makaylie Cook, is a member and president of the Antelope 4-H Club. This is her 9th year being involved in the Tehama 4-H Program. She is passionate in being involved in her community by organizing community service activities and events. Over the past few years she has been partnering with Children First Foster Agency, starting with the back pack drives and this year being a “Bike Drive” for our local Foster Agency youth, for Christmas. Her goal has been to collect 200 bikes for
children ages 3-17. At this point she has collected 107 bikes, and is receiving more. She has another $4,000 to spend on bikes from several donors. This has been an amazing project with tremendous community support. Recently Makaylie saw an add with Red Bluff Senior Living in need of items for the Seniors to have a Merry Christmas, so she got right on it and delivered 5 cases of adult diapers, bath robes, 9 large soft blankets, 5 small lap blankets, slippers, socks and gloves. She loves helping in the community and making a difference, expecting nothing in-turn...this is the true spirit of 4-H. Some of Makaylies’ past accomplishments and involvements has been...a Tehama County 4-H delegate to AM Vets Valley Forge Spirit of America Conference in Pennsylvania in 2019, a three time Tehama County 4-H Community Service Award recipient, State 4-H Record Book winner in 2018 & 2019, the
Soroptimist Violet Richardson Award winner in 2017. She has helped with the Tractor Supply Clover Drive annually and
the 4-H Week First Baby born baby basket drive. Makaylie embodies the true 4-H Spirit and 4-H pledge
of: “Head, Hands, Heart and Health for our club, our community and our world”!
Congratulations Makaylie for work well done!

Tehama County Leaders Council meets monthly to discuss, plan and evaluate county programs, budget and events. Meetings are the 4th Tuesday of the month from September through June, at 6:30 at the Tehama County Department of Education at 1135 Lincoln Street in Red Bluff. Currently Council meetings are being help virtually through zoom conferencing, until the COVID guidance restrictions are lifted. Council meetings are open for all 4-H leaders, members and parents. This is a great time to express your thoughts on any countywide program and event. All 4-H appointed adult volunteers and 4-H member’s (14 years and older) are voting members and are invited to attend monthly council meetings. Election of council officers are held annually at the Leaders Council meeting in June. All 4-H appointed adult volunteers are invited to hold an office; some offices are open to teen 4-H members.
Notes from Council President - Marsha Wilson….. “As council president I would just like to say that I know how difficult this
pandemic has been. As 4H leaders, parents and supporters of this program
we need to keep a positive attitude and strive to make this year a success.
It will definitely take a 4H army to make this happen but I have great
intuition that it will. “

For the annual Bowman 4-H Christmas Tree fundraiser we went up to McCloud on Sierra Pacific land, because my dad works there so we can cut on their land. We went up at about 7:30am and started cutting around 9am. We had a few snowball fights but we still worked hard. We stopped cutting around 11:30am and started back to the lot. I arrived around 12:30pm to the lot and we sold those trees like a snap of a finger. When the other trucks arrived, around 1pm, we started to have a bunch and a bunch of customers. I handed out receipts to people. We made a lot of money! Then at the end we cleaned up and left. We sold out of all the trees in just a few hours. A BIG Thank you to everyone who made this year work. Thank you to Shasta Farm and Equipment for letting us use their location. Thank you to Sierra Pacific for the trees. Thank you to all the 4H families that helped cut and sell. And Thank you to all the community members that supported us this year. See you again next year!

Being a B.L.A.S.T. (Becoming Leaders /All Stars in Training) member you do things, such as going to Board of Supervisors meetings, go to Leadership Conferences, do Officer Installations, and help run all 4-H events. Of course as a B.L.A.S.T. member this year, I might not get the experiences that past members have, but I am excited for what is in store for me!

2020/2021 4-H Calendar
Below is the 2020-2021 4-H Events Calendar, with dates that may be tentatively scheduled and subject to change due to COVID and rescheduling needs. Feel free to call before the event to confirm the time and location. Our Leaders council and clubs are working diligently to make these events happen, but many challenges and restrictions lay before them as these events approach. Some of these events may look and feel a little different from past years, as we are being creative and moving to new formats such as being virtual, or remote learning formats. When possible we will try our hardest to provide the most viable format, always keeping everyone’s safety in mind.

Countywide Projects
4-H Projects typically begin at the club level however, if there are no volunteers leading such projects, the option to open a popular project to the county level allows others to interact and meet members from other clubs who have similar interests. Countywide 4-H projects are available to any active Tehama County 4-H member. These projects have their own schedules and meeting dates and it is up to the member to keep informed as they do not meet at monthly club meetings. Countywide 4-H projects must be approved annually by our county 4-H Program Educator upon completion of a Countywide Project Info Sheet on file with the UCCE Tehama County 4-H Office. Interested in starting or continuing a Countywide 4-H Project? Request a Countywide Project Info Sheet by emailing [email protected].
