WE HAD A HAPPY HALLOWEEN AT TECUMSEH WHAT’S HAPPENING IN NOVEMBER?

We had many different characters and creatures appear in our halls last week. Our K1/K2/1 students went “Trick-or-treating” from class to class to show off their costumes to the older students. Students participated in a variety of literacy, numeracy and arts activities along with games or movies in the classrooms before the big night of Trick–or-treating ahead of them.

Thank you to all of our families who donated cans to our Scare Away Hunger events that were organized by our Tecumseh Student Leadership Team (TSLT). Our scary library was a huge hit and the leadership team members did an amazing job planning and organizing the event.

Hard to believe that the winter season is upon us and it is November already. As the weather is getting colder, please make sure your children are dressed to be outside during the day, particularly the 40 minute lunch recess and Kindergarten outdoor play in the morning. As the snow arrives, we highly recommend that our younger students wear snow pants, boots, and non-woolen mittens and gloves that easily get soaked and icy in the wet snow. A change of clothes (pants, socks, underwear) is also a good idea in case students get wet outside. Thanks for your assistance.

Progress reports will be arriving home on November 9. These are not formal report cards as they do not have marks, but they will give you a good idea of how your child is progressing, particularly in the areas of Learning Skills, Language and Math. Interviews will be held for all interested families the week of Nov. 12 and during the day on Friday, November 16, which is a PA Day. This is an excellent opportunity to sit down with your child’s teacher and discuss his or her progress. Details about how to arrange interviews will come with the progress reports.

The students in Kindergarten to Grade 8 continue to use technology in new and innovative ways. We are working to continue to grow our inventory of mobile technology both through Ministry Funding and through the support of our Tecumseh Home & School Association and the Milk program. This year, we will continue to work on increasing the availability of technology to allow students to access the Google Apps for Education (GAFE), Google Classroom and to experiment with new technology.

Everyday our school is full of volunteers, dedicating their time to support our students and staff. We are so fortunate to have a supportive community and wonderful staff that work to support the learning and growth of all of our students. Our first math session this year for parents and volunteers was a success. We will be offering the session again for those who couldn’t make it.

Spirit Wear Order forms for spirit wear went home on Friday, November 2nd. Orders are due to the office by 1:00 pm on Friday November 16th. If you would like to order for a Christmas gift, please indicate that on the form.

TO PARENTS & GUARDIANS:

The Tecumseh Home & School Association is holding the White Elephant Holiday Sale on Thursday, December 13th. This will be a wonderful day for the students of Tecumseh – they

will have an opportunity to ‘holiday shop’ for family and friends right here in the library during regular school hours. Although this event is considered a fundraiser for the school, it is more

about experiencing the Gift of Giving for loved ones during the holiday season.

Students should bring along a list of special people to shop for and whatever money you wish them to spend. We will do the rest! They’ll come home with wrapped gifts to give over

the holiday season.

We still need your new and gently used items to resell at our White Elephant Sale. Please see the list below for ideas to donate. We also need donations of gift bags & boxes, tissue,

wrap, bows, tape and gift tags to prepare the student’s treasures for their family members. As well, if you are interested in helping out with the sale, please contact Renee Gehl at

renee.gehl@rogers.com. We need volunteers!
