DO Costers Del Sere

History

Is a Spanish Denominacin de Origen (DO) (Denominaci dOrigen in

Catalan) or wines located in the province o Lleida (Catalonia, Spain) and

is divided into several separate sb-zones. The or original sbzones

created in 1988 are Artesa, to the northeast o Lleida, Valls de Ricorb to

the east, Garriges and Ramat. In 1998 two other sbzones were added:

Pallars Jss, net to the town o Tremp, 90 m north o Lleida and

Segri to the west and srronded by the Raimat sbzone.

The climate is continental (hot smmers and cold winters),

inenced by the proimity o the Pyrenees, thogh rainall is sparse.

Average rainall is arond 450 mm thogh 300 mm is common

in the west. Average annal temperatre is 15C (ma 35C in smmer,

minimm below zero in winter). There are also etreme variations between

daytime and night-time temperatres all year. Droght, hailstones and

spring rosts are occasional riss or the vineyards.

Vineyards at 3,000 feet.

The elevation o the property (850-1000 meters), the ecellent sn

eposre and large wooded area arond it, along with its long

history mae the place loo a privileged and magical. The arm hasan old chapel and ermenting grapes vats carved into the rocs

by the mons o the Hospitaller Order (twelth centry)

The lands are generally ranco calcareos with low organic

matter content, which together with the continental climate and

high thermal contrast between day and night, allows s to obtain

wines o high qality.

Harvesting is done manally and in small boes o 10g only with

grapes grown in the arm. The wine is ermented in dierent

materials: wooden vats and vats o stainless steel and natral stone.

With these three materials wines get very dierent tones and shades

and great aromatic compleity.

Castell dEncs

History

The origin o Castell dEncs stems rom the impact the location

had on Ral Bobet in 2001 while he was looing or land that cold

redce the eects o climate change on vineyards arond the Catalan

Pyrenees. 23 o the 95ha in the property have been planted with

high density varieties sch as Cabernet Savignon, Cabernet Franc,

Merlot, Pinot Noir, Syrah, Petit Verdot, Savignon Blanc, Riesling,

Semillon and Albario. The rest o the land remains as a orest.

The intention is to prodce a limited nmber o bottles

(6000 cases or less) eclsively rom the rit o or vineyards.

comple character. There is a slight richness that

completes its perormance.

Deep cherry red with violet rim.

nose

Fresh wild berry rit and orest minerality are ond

on the nose. It is nderlined with notes o papria and

toasty, almost smoy notes. The rit is pre and ripe.

pALATe

Impressive attac on the palate with rich dar berry rit

mingled with spices. Very bright the wine displays an

amazingly balanced character. There is something

almost rereshing abot it. Long earthy fnish.

Powerul. Exceptional wine.
