Cubex is dedicated to staying at the forefront of technological developments and 2012 has been a year of significant advances in design and performance in hearing technology. We have trialed a variety of products that have now been added to our already strong product portfolio helping us increase patient empowerment. We have also continued to introduce test procedures enabling us to better assist our patients to manage their hearing loss and tinnitus.

We are excited to share some of these new developments and invite you to a series of information days.

We constantly seek out new technologies that offer more benefits - better speech understanding, greater listening comfort, clearer more natural sound quality. Providing all of this in an attractive design has been a major challenge. However, hearing devices today are designed to be virtually invisible and deliver the most uncompromising performance; making them extremely easy on the ear and the eye!

Because we hear with our brain, our priority is to keep sounds natural and uncorrupted. Today, signal fidelity is better than it has ever been providing more efficient signal processing. The subtle and unique details of speech are better preserved whilst wireless binaural technology works to support the natural teamwork of two good ears, protecting the delicate acoustical properties of the original sound signal, improving localization. Wireless connectivity is no longer limited to “on the ear” style hearing aids. This is now available in custom “within the ear” products too.

For an opportunity to explore this, please call Linda on 0207 935 5511 NOW to reserve a time. Furthermore, should you wish to improve on your existing technology, we would be delighted to offer you £500 off your upgrade.

Super Power

This year has also seen advances in Super Power solutions that go beyond power. The introduction of wireless receiver-in-the-ear (RITE) technology and custom made products to the super power segment has provided many more high performing and cosmetic options.

Despite the small-size of RITE and custom made products, there is no compromise on performance and benefit - access to speech understanding and environmental sounds, distortion-free audibility and high levels of reliability.

New features like the Audibility Extender found in the Widex Super family or Spectral IQ in the Starkey X series are designed to give access to sounds that may never have been heard before. This is done by moving high-pitched sounds such as birdsong and children’s voices into areas where there is audibility.

Integrated with wireless connectivity, today’s solutions transform hearing instruments into a hands-free handset, allowing people to live an active life; enjoy TV; listen to music; talk on mobile and landline telephones and audio computer interaction.

For an opportunity to explore developments in the Super Power segment, please call Scarlett on 0207 935 5511 to reserve a slot. Furthermore, should you wish to improve on your existing technology, we would be delighted to offer you £500 off your upgrade and a 30 day money back guarantee.

Experiencing sound in this natural 3D way gives us access to spatial cues in our environment so that we can intuitively locate, separate and focus on the information we want to hear and ignore the information that is unimportant to us.

For a person with normal hearing, information is natural and complete and the brain is able to easily sort through this and then apply attention through a cognitive process – if the sound is organised, one can select and then follow it. Hearing loss disrupts this process and localization is compromised. The information delivered to the brain is incomplete and disorganized leaving the hearing impaired person in a world of acoustic chaos.

Cubex is one of the few audiology practices in the UK that test the cognitive processes related to hearing. Rather than just relying on a tonal stimulus to detect hearing, speech tests in quiet

and in noise provide a much better ‘Real World’ perspective of a person’s reduced hearing.

This year we have enhanced this process with the inclusion of the LiSN-S PGA - The new benchmark in speech-in-noise testing. This adaptive test is administered under specially configured headphones where stimuli are spatially separated in a virtual 3D world that intelligently mimics a ‘Real World’ set-up.

The ability to place sounds in space is important because: It gives them meaning, sounds do not happen in isolation but happen in context. We live in a 3 dimensional world, and the sounds that occur in that world occur in 3D too.

Test your hearing in 3D for FREE from 5th-7th November 2012. Call 0207 935 5511 NOW to reserve a slot. Spaces are limited so please book ASAP.

Design and Performance

5th - 15th November 2012Advances in Hearing Technology and Design

The human auditory system is made up of two ears and the brain which is constantly bombarded with many sounds from different sources, often simultaneously. The partnership between the brain and the ears gives us the remarkable ability to deconstruct this complex world of sound, spatially separate multiple sound sources and place them where they belong in the environment. This ability of knowing where sounds are coming from is called localisation.

Serenade is a complete, FDA cleared sound therapy solution based on acoustic research conducted by leading university researchers. Simple to use and customized to each patient, this approach may be used to seek immediate relief, as well as long term benefit when used as part of an ongoing tinnitus treatment programme.

Prior to deciding if Serenade is an appropriate management route for an individual, a tinnitus assessment is carried out. Determining how the tinnitus affects a patient’s daily life is the first step, helping us towards our goal of establishing an appropriate treatment programme. This is followed by a detailed Tinnitus Assessment which includes:

• Pure tone audiometry• Tympanometry• Otoacoustic Emissions (OAE’s)• High frequency and multi frequency audiometry• Tinnitus pitch matching• Loudness match• Loudness growth function• Tinnitus handicap questionnaire• Tinnitus reaction questionnaire

Serenade was recently awarded a contract with the Veterans Association in the US to provide SoundCure Serenade as a tinnitus treatment option to their members.
