Paleolithic Age

The Paleolithic Age which is also known as the Old Stone Age, was the earliest period of human development and the longest phase of mankind's history. It began about 2 million years ago and ended between 40,000 and 10,000 years ago. It was succeeded by the Mesolithic period. It is most known for the evolution of the human species. The most known remains of the Paleolithic age are stone tools which provide a basis for a system of classification which contains several tool making method.

Mesolithic Age

The Mesolithic age or Middle Stone Age was a period of time in human development between the end of the Paleolithic period and the beginning of the Neolithic period. It began with the end of the last glacial period or ice age over 10,000 years ago and it was succeeded by the Neolithic period. Mesolithic culture is known by a wide variety of hunting, fishing, and food gathering techniques. Another characteristic of the period was hunting and fishing settlements along rivers and on lakes.

Neolithic Age

The Neolithic Age or New Stone Age was a period of time when cultural evolution and technological development began and was characterized by the use of stone tools. The existence and creation of villages that dependent on domesticated plants and animals was seen during this time. The domestication of plants and animals usually distinguishes Neolithic culture from earlier cultures. The end of the Neolithic Age is marked by innovations such as the rise of civilization and the introduction of metal tools and writing.

Bronze Age

The Bronze Age was a period of time in the development of technology and human civilization when metals were first used commonly in the manufacturing of tools and weapons. The earliest use of metal can be seen from clay models of weapons. The development of a metal dependent industry was consistent with the rise of urbanization. The new processes of mining, smelting, and casting and led to the production of surplus food.

Iron Age

The Iron Age was a period of time in the development of industry that begins with the common use of iron. The oldest known item of iron shaped by hammering is a dagger found in Egypt that was made before 1350 B.C. The use of smelted iron items and weapons became common during the period extending from 1900 to 1400 B.C.

Middle Ages

The Middle Ages was a period of time in Western European history n the 4th and 5th century and lasted into the 15th century or the period of the Renaissance. The ideas and institutions of western civilization come largely from the events of the Early Middle Ages. The importance of the Middle Ages has been documented, and is known as one of the most important developments in human history.

The Renaissance was a period of time that saw the development of Western civilization which marked the transition from medieval to modern times. This time is known for its important advancements in the fields of science, literature, and music. The Renaissance is commonly known as one of the most important times in human development.

Industrial Age

The Industrial Age or Industrial Revolution refers to a period of time that was characterized by massive economic, technological, social and cultural change which affected humans in significant ways. A world’s economy based on manual labor was transformed into one that had industry and manufacturing by machines.

The Information Age, or sometimes referred to as the Computer Age or Digital Age, is a period in human history that has been characterized by the shift from traditional industry which the industrial revolution brought to society through industrialization, to an economy and society based on the advancing of computers and digital technology. The onset of the Information Age is also associated with the Digital Revolution.
