How they Benefited my Products

iMovieiMovie allowed us to turn our raw footage from shooting the scenes for the film into a trailer, iMovie allowed us to edit the sound within the scenes, edit the speed, colour and length of the shots to create a trailer with many scenes that linked together through the use of transitions. This was the main software that had an effect on how the product at the end looked as this is how we created our main product, the trailer, there were some effects that we had in our heads that we thought would work better in the trailer but it wasn’t possible to add them in through iMovie so I feel this was a downside of the program. Along with the final trailer I have used iMovie in various other ways to create a focus group video and using photos of the storyboard to create an animatic on the iOS version of iMovie on iPad and iPhone.

PhotoshopThrough Photoshop I created my Ancillary products, this is a brilliant piece of software and which has benefited me a lot as other pieces of software just as Publisher would not have allowed me to create such a high quality design as Photoshop did. I was able to edit images by removing the background allowing me to use a custom background for both the magazine and poster making them look more professional. Along with making the magazine in Photoshop I was able to use sites such as Dafont.com and myfonts.com to download more professional typefaces for me to use in my magazine and poster.

Survey Monkey and Social MediaSurvey Monkey and the use of Social Media helped throughout making the products as it gave us insight into other peoples views on the product. This has benefited us because it has given us real consumer research and this allowed us to tailor our products more to what a customer would like to view. Through the use of Facebook and Twitter this allowed me to hit the target marker of the film, people in their teens, and see what they wanted from the trailer and ancillary products.

Skills Learnt

Throughout the time producing my coursework I feel that I have learnt a lot more about video editing specifically in iMovie, this is the first time I have used a video editing software for a long period of time to produce a final product. Before I was quite bad at editing but if you look at the different versions of the trailer you can see improvements as they progress. I have learnt more about editing techniques and the way they can be used to create a professional looking trailer.

I feel that as I produced a magazine for my main product in AS Media, I don’t feel as if my skills have progressed as much when using Photoshop to produce my ancillary products. Although I feel that producing a horror magazine was a lot more challenging in the composition of the images, I feel now as I should have planned my ancillary more to start with.
