The Old Way of On-Line Video:Downloading
• Slow
• Large files slow networks/fill hard drives
• No good way to send video to all in an organization without fouling the network
• Training to the desktop is not practical
• Like trying to control Niagara Falls…not going to happen!
The New Way: Streaming Video
• Files reside on a server
• Accessed on demand
• Data rates are optimized to display video without slowing the network
• Data transfer is carefully controlled and choreographed

• Streaming video is being used extensively in today’s communications– Advertising– Entertainment– News and Information– Education– Industry/Government training
