ExecutiveSummaryThebasisforestablishingatechnologyplanis:AdistricttechnologyplanisrequiredbyNewYorkStateDepartmentofEducationandEasternSuffolkBOCES,stateandfederaltechnologygrantsrequireastateapproveddistricttechnologyplan,futuretechnologyfundsaredrivenbyadistricttechnologyplan,andmostimportantatechnologyplanprovidesaguidetoenhancelearningthroughtheuseoftechnology.WilliamFloydSchoolDistrictisalargesuburbandistrictofapproximately8,500students,located70mileseastofNewYorkCity,onthesouthshoreofLongIsland.Weareconstantlysearchingfornewmethodologytomeettheneedsofourdiversestudentpopulation.TheWilliamFloydCommunityiscommittedtotheeducationoftheirchildren.Weholdafirmbeliefthataviableeducationalprogramcannotjustmeettheminimumneedsofthelearners,butmustpreparetheeventualgraduatesforentryintoanevolving,competitiveandoftenunforgivingmarketplace.Wefirmlybelieveintheneedtoincorporatetechnologyasamotivatorforinstructionalchangeandatoolforteachingandlearning.Asevidenceofthiscommitmenttostate-of-the-artlearningexperiences,wearecurrentlyinvolvedinbuildingatechnologyinfrastructuretosupportallofourclassroomssoourteacherscanincorporateinnovationsintheirdailyinstruction.Wewillstrengthenourdistrict-widenetworkandincreaseitscapacitytodelivervoice,data,andvideotoeveryclassroominthedistrict.Aswellasbuildaninfrastructuretosupportmorewirelessdevicesthroughoutourschools.Asweworktowardachievingourgoals,itisclearthattheassimilationoftechnologyintooureducationalsystemiscritical.Theimplementationofthisplanwillenhanceourabilitytosuccessfullyachieveourprimarymissionandwillassistourstudentsastheyacquiretheskillsneededforanalyzingsystems,problemsolving,communicatingresults,andimplementingsolutions.

TeacherCenterSupportTheWilliamFloydTeacherCenteriscommittedtocollaboratingwithdistrictleadershiptoensurehighqualityprofessionaldevelopmentintheareaofinstructionaltechnology.Teacherswillparticipateactivelyincoursesthatfocusontheintegrationoftechnologyresourcesintocurriculum,withanemphasisonNYSstandardsandthenewCommonCoreStandards.Withtheinstallationofinteractivewhiteboards,district-wide,professionaldevelopmentmustbeongoingandtieredtomeetteachers'variedskillsets.TheWilliamFloydTeacherCenterwillprovideprofessionalsupportservicestoteachersinorderto:

• assiststeachers,diagnoselearningneeds,experimentwiththeuseofmultipleinstructionalapproaches,assessstudentoutcomes,assessstaffdevelopmentneedsandplans,andtrainotherschoolpersonnelineffectivepedagogicalapproaches

EvaluationPlanEvaluationisandwillbebothcontinuousandongoing.Thisprocesswillbebothformalandinformal.Feedbackandsuggestionswillcontinuouslybesolicited.ItiscrucialtomeasuretheimpactoftheDistrict'sTechnologyPlananditseffectivenesswhenitcomestoteachingandlearninginthedistrict.Inordertoaccomplishthis,thedistrictwillworktobuildacustomizedwalk-throughtoolthatwillallowustotakesnapshotsofaclassroomandtheuseoftechnologyinthatclassroom.Itwillalsoallowustoevaluatetheeffectivenessoflearningwiththetechnologyaswelookforengagedstudents,collaboratingandalsoproblemsolvingduringlessons.Thewalk-throughtoolrubricswillaligntotheISTEstandardsforTeachersandthenewISTEstandardsforStudents.Thedistrictadministrators,includingtheAssistantSuperintendentsforElementaryandSecondaryEducation,alongwiththeCoordinatorofTechnologyandotherdirectorswillbeinvolvedinthedevelopmentofthetoolandconductthewalk-throughs.WewillalsocontinuetousesurveysthatwillbesentouttoAdministration,TeachersandStudentstogainfeedbackoftheexperiencesinandoutoftheclassroomprobingvariousaspectsofcomputertechnology,engagementanduseofdigitaltools.WewillholdmonthlyDistrictTechnologyCommitteemeetingstodiscussfindingsandusetheinformationcollectedtocontinuetofinetonegoalsandinitiatives.ThisinputwillcontinuetohelpusrevisetheTechnologyPlanandkeepitalivingfluiddocument.Thedesiredoutcomefromthemethodslistedabovewillhelpusevaluatetheeffectivenessofourtechnologyplanandhowitispositivelyimpactingteachingandlearninginthedistrict.Thedesiredgoalwouldbegrowthininstructionalpracticeswithteacherintegrationoftechnology.
