1 It has been determined that a Microsoft ® Windows Update, that includes security updates, issued by Microsoft on February 12, 2019 may cause diagnostic tools using the Windows XP Operating System to start up with an error message and/or disable the Diagnostic Suite from starting. These instructions are applicable to: VERUS ® Pro, VERDICT ® , VERUS ® and VERUS ® Wireless Depending on the status of your diagnostic tool, follow the applicable instructions: Diagnostic Suite is not starting, see If the Diagnostic Suite is NOT Working (see below). Diagnostic Suite is working, see If the Diagnostic Suite IS Working (page 3). If the Diagnostic Suite is NOT Working Note: Use the following instructions, if the Diagnostic Suite is not starting. 1. It has been determined that a Microsoft® Windows Update, that includes security updates, issued by Microsoft on February 12, 2019 may cause diagnostic tools using the Windows XP Operating System to start up with an error message and/or disable the Diagnostic Suite from starting.

These instructions are applicable to:

VERUS® Pro, VERDICT®, VERUS® and VERUS® Wireless

Depending on the status of your diagnostic tool, follow the applicable instructions:

• Diagnostic Suite is not starting, see If the Diagnostic Suite is NOT Working (see below).

• Diagnostic Suite is working, see If the Diagnostic Suite IS Working (page 3).

If the Diagnostic Suite is NOT WorkingNote: Use the following instructions, if the Diagnostic Suite is not starting.

1. From the Windows Start menu, open Control Panel.

2. Select Automatic Updates.

3. Check the Turn off Automatic Updates button.

IMPORTANT - Leave Automatic Updates off until further notice from Snap-on.

4. Click Apply, then OK.

5. From Control Panel, select Add or Remove Programs.

6. Check the Show Updates check box.

7. Scroll down through the list and find “Security Update for Windows XP (KB4487085)”, and double-click on it.

8. Select Next, then at the next screen prompt select Finish to remove this update.

9. Close all windows and reboot the device.

10. The device should now be fully operational and can be used normally.

Corrective Action Diagnostic Software Not Working After Microsoft® Update

If the Diagnostic Suite IS WorkingNote: Use the following instructions, if the Diagnostic Suite is functioning normally. This will prevent the update rendering the Diagnostic Suite inoperable.

1. From the Windows Start menu, open Control Panel.

3. Check the Turn off Automatic Updates button.

IMPORTANT - Leave Automatic Updates off until further notice from Snap-on.

4. Click Apply, then OK.

This will prevent the Windows Update rendering the Diagnostic Suite inoperable. Continue to use the device normally.
