TECHNICAL SAFETY AND RISK IN THE OIL AND GAS INDUSTRY

FIRE AND EXPLOSION ANALYSIS

HSEassist use CasQade Consequence Modelling software for deterministic fire and

explosion modelling. Additionally we have extensive experience in the use of DNV

PHAST, which can be used if requested by a client. Our personnel are experienced

in the use of these and other modelling software packages for Fire and Explosion

Analysis for a wide range of facilities. Where deterministic models fall short, we

conduct in-house CFD analysis. Additionally, we have a partner company that

specializes in that field and can therefore provide even more complex and detailed

CFD analysis as an integrated service managed by HSEassist.

MAJOR ACCIDENT EVENT ANALYSIS

The oil and gas industry works regularly with high pressure and flammable fluids,

often using cutting edge technology, in deep water, and hostile operating environ-

ments. When things go wrong in such circumstances, the consequences can be

catastrophic. Such catastrophic events are referred to as Major Accident Events

(MAE). HSEassist specialises in the assessment of Major Accident Events. This

includes graphical representation and analysis in Bowtie XP, modelling of conse-

quences, and qualitative and quantitative risk analysis. Furthermore, HSEassist

takes this service to the next level, and integrate the learnings from major accident

event analysis in defining performance requirements (Performance Standards) for

safety critical equipment, and collaborating with Clients to improve maintenance

routines, with the common goal of improving facility safety and reducing risk.

The roots of the organization lie in providing safety engineering services to major offshore developments, from concept

select right through to commissioning. However, the vast majority of our expertise get applied early, during Pre-FEED /

To successfully operate in Australian Offshore waters, the development and approval of a safety case by NOPSEMA is

essential. In other parts of the world, the requirement for an IADC safety case is becoming all the more frequent.

HSEassist personnel have considerable experience in the development of safety cases for production facilities, mobile

offshore drilling units, special purpose vessels (pipelay, multipurpose, diving, well intervention), and supply vessels,

both for base case operations and campaign specific operations. We ensure the product is fit for purpose and excellent
