Grace® exfoliating silicas are an environmentally friendly alternative to polyethylene microbeads and other microplastics. Microplastic beads have low density and and are difficult to effectively remove from wastewater at typical treatment facilties. The pollution of our oceans and waterways with these materials have resulted in calls for legislation to limit microplastics and commitments by many prominent companies in the personal care industry to stop using microplastic beads. Grace® silica is safe for the environment and can provide exfoliating properties as well as other multi-functional benefits to your formulation. They are highly pure and a chemically synthesized form of a naturally occurring mineral. They are similar in composition to natural sand and do not float like microplastic beads In addition, Grace® silicas are approved and have been for used for years in food, oral care, pharmaceuticals, and cosmetics so you can trust Grace® silica in your personal care formulations when seeking an environmentally friendly exfoliation substitute for plastic microbeads.

Dosage:

As little as 1% to 6% of multi-functional Grace silica can be added to provide a range of properties and from gentle to maximum exfoliating effect.

Grace® exfoliating silicas are odorless, tasteless, and chemically inert synthetic micronized silicas. They have a refractive index of 1.46, making them invisible in many liquids. They will not affect the color of powdered products.

Grace® exfoliating silicas are characterized by an internal structure of pores, which make the powder free-flowing and easy to handle.They also absorb moisture to protect powders and powdered mixes from caking and to maintain free-flow, thereby increasing shelf life.

Grace® exfoliating silicas meet the requirements of the Food Chemicals Codex (FCC) for silicon dioxide (silica gel). These materials also meet the requirements of the Food and Drug Administration (FDA) in Title 21 of the Code of Federal Regulations Section 172.480.
