General Description

The Minus7 Solar Energy Processor is the plant for generating, harvesting and distributing thermal energy. The plant consists of a Heat Pump Module, endothermic heat collection module, domestic hot water module, heat distribution interface with back-up heater and master control system.

These are used for heat transfer into the following circuits: 1:Collector to Brine circuit. 2:Collector to water circuit. 3: water to space heating circuit and 4: water to domestic hot water pre-heat circuit.Brine solution THERMOX DTX at 30% conc by volume. Frost protection to -18°C. Although based on Ethylene Glycol, THERMOX DTX has been tested and classified as Non-Toxic by an EPA certified laboratory. DeTox™ prevents Ethylene Glycol from being metabolised (during digestion) into toxic by-products, which cause kidney failure, blindness and death. Tests carried out on THERMOX DTX confirmed the toxicity was “so low that it was impossible to determine an LD50 value”.THERMOX DTX contains synergistic corrosion inhibitors to protect metals commonly found in such systems. It has been tested in accordance with BS5117 and found to meet BS6580 corrosion standards for mild & stainless steel, aluminium, copper, brass and cast iron. Zinc or galvanised components are not recommended for use with closed loop cooling or heating systems. THERMOX DTX also contains scale and biological inhibitors to help prevent fouling – thus promoting long operational life and high thermal efficiency. THERMOX DTX mixtures are readily biodegradable (90% over ten days) and will not remain in the environment or bio-accumulate. THERMOX DTX is miscible with water in all proportions. The domestic hot water circuit consists of a flow meter to to detect and monitor flow in the circuit, a plate heat exchanger to transfer heat from the hot store into the heating circuit mains water supply, a pressure regulating valve set to deliver water at 2 bar together with a flow regulating valve, a UV purifier and a pair of in line immersion heaters. The water is pre-heated by means of the plate heat exchanger taking heat from the hot store, then treated using a Silverline UV-DS15 UV purifier to eliminate legionella prior to being delivered to the regulated in-line immersion heaters. The output temperature is regulated to 44°C by the DHW controller. The flow meter is fitted in the circuit to act as a demand switch and to monitor the flow rate.

Space heating circuit consists of a flow meter to to detect and monitor flow in the circuit, a plate heat exchanger to transfer heat from the hot store into the heating circuit and a back-up in line immersion heater. Solar collector circuit consists of a flow meter, circulating pump, two plate heat exchangers, and a pressure relief valve. The brine circuit consists of a flow meter, a circulating pump, a three port motorised valve a plate heat exchanger connected to the solar collector circuit and the evaporator heat exchanger.

The Heat-pump circuit is fitted with a low pressure cut-out (29) switch. In the event of this operating the system shuts down the compressor and displays a solid red light on the control panel. If the LP condition clears the system will clear the fault state at the next timed run period or it can be cleared by the operator by toggling the reset button on the control panel.

The Heat-pump circuit is fitted with a high pressure cut-out (28). In the event of the HP cut-out operating the system shuts the compressor down and the system displays a solid red light on the control panel. This HP cutout is mechanically latched. It can only be cleared by the operator reseting the electro-mechanical switch. When cleared the control system must be cleared by toggling the reset button on the panel. The system after detecting this failure state will continue to allow the collection of thermal energy to be delivered to the hot and cold stores

Protection for pumps is provided by the monitoring the flow in the individual circuits and turning the pumps off when the flow falls below the set point.

Hot water generator safety cutout is thermal cutout on each immersion

DHW back-up heater safety cutout is thermal cutout on the immersion.

Instructions for installation

See Sunergy installation manual for full details. Electrical connections are to be made on site to the two independent 32 ampere power supplies. These are to be protected with type D circuit breakers.
