6F50Harsh Engagement/Harsh 1-2 Shift on Tip InWhile working on a 2009 Ford Flex or Lincoln MKS (built on/before 12/12/2008) equipped with a 6F50 transmission, you may experience a harsh engagement or harsh 1-2 shift concern during low speed driving (below 10 mph). Ford Motor Co. has determined that this concern is caused by a programming issue. Ford recommends reprogramming the PCM with the latest update to correct this concern.

This may be due to a broken orifice restrictor cup plug in the forward clutch circuit. This applies to transmissions built between 12/11/09-4/15/10. The orifice restrictor cup plug sits in the transmission case below the forward clutch feed seal under the main control valve body.

The same year as the 5AT Subaru 5 speed transmission. Many techs may mistake this transmission for the 5AT 5 speed. Both transmissions look very similar externally. The unique solenoid alignment referred to as the “Solenoid Six Pack” quickly identifies it as the 4AT 4 speed transmission.

6F50/6F55Slip Sensation or Sluggish Acceleration from a StopWhile working on a 2009-2011 Ford Taurus, Edge, Flex, 2011 Explorers, Lincoln MKS, MKT , MKX equipped with a 6F50 or 6F55 transmission (with MERCON LV listed on the dipstick), you may experi-ence a slip sensation or sluggish acceleration from a stop, followed by a bump sensation. Ford Motor Co. has determined that this concern may be caused by a valve body concern. Ford recommends re-moving a check ball from the valve body, replacing both separator plates and reprogramming the PCM with the latest update. Separator plate part numbers are BT4Z-7Z490-B and 7T4Z-7Z490-D. These new design separator plates are available from your local dealership parts department.

GM FWD Hydra-MaticGrinding Growling Noise in Park on InclineWhile working on a 2009 and prior GM vehicle equipped with a Hydra-Matic front wheel drive trans-mission, you may experience a grinding/growling type noise in park position while on an incline. Gen-eral Motors has determined that this concern may be caused by the parking pawl resonating/ground-ing out through the drivetrain. GM recommends applying the parking brake before placing the shifter lever into the park position. This will transfer the load from the parking pawl to the parking brake and eliminate the grinding/growling noise.
