JVC featured their large full HD 3D LCD monitor for professional use at the last Cabsat exhibtion, providing a glimpse of the furture for 3D television technology in the Middle East.

The GD-463D10, which is 46-inch large and only 1-1/2 inches (39mm) thin, uses JVC’s unique high-quality 3D visual engine to deliver a natural, flicker-free visual experience. It provides high quality 3D images by adopting the Xpol® polarizing filter method and battery-free passive-type circular polarizing filter glasses. JVC’s unique 3D decoder circuit translates images into the optimal Xpol® display format and demonstrates the ability to accommodate subtle gradations and shades of colour. The full HD 3D monitor displays exclusive 3D material which showcases the screen’s true potential and provides viewers with an indication of what to expect from the 3D revolution.

After the first launch of a large full HD 3D LCD monitor for professional use last July 2009, JVC’s GD-463D10 screen for professional use has captivated the attention of industry leaders and has set the ball rolling for innovations in 3D developments.

High-Definiton3DLCDintheMiddleEast

Primary Features of JVC’s GD-463D10: 1. JVC’s GD-463D10 is a large 46 inch 3D LCD monitor for professional use. JVC’s unique high-quality 3D visual engine reproduces high-quality images befitting this new era of wide, high-resolution displays. The compact 1-1/2 inches (39mm) depth allows for greater flexibility in the layout of 3D visual environments.

2. The GD-463D10 is compatible with the industry standard line-by-line and side-by-side 3D video formats.

3. The Xpol® polarizing filter method moves beyond the shutter method to provide a stable, flicker-free visual experience. Whereas the left eye and right eye information switches back and forth on a shutter glass display, the GD-463D10 always displays left and right images on the screen to offer clean, stable 3D images. The GD-463D10 includes two pairs of battery-free, light polarizing glasses.

4. The GD-463D10’s three HDMI input terminals are compatible with standard HD video signals, including 1080/24p, 50p, 60p, 50i and 60i. Input signals in line-by-line or side-by-side format can be displayed as 3D images (50i and 60i for side-by-side format only).

JVC to introduce its new GY-HM790 ProHD camcorder at NAB 2010

New Introduction GY-HM790

April 6, 2010-London (6th April 2010) –JVC will introduce the new flagship of its ProHD camcorder line, the GY-HM790, at the 2010 NAB Show in Las Vegas, April 12-15 (Booth C4314). With an innovative modular design and a full complement of accessories, the new camera supports multicore or fibre-based studio production. Plus, as a shoulder-mount camcorder, it delivers outstanding ENG and sports production performance with more features than ever. The GY-HM790 features three 1/3-inch CCDs, which allow a lighter, more compact form factor for better manoeuvrability in the field and more flexibility with robotic camera control systems in the studio. It produces 1920x1080 images and can record in 1080i, 720p, and even SD (576i) for operations that have not yet made the move to HD. The camera records at 35 Mbps (HQ mode/variable bit rate) or 19 Mbps/25 Mbps (SP mode/constantbit rate). Although the camera ships with a Canon 14x zoom lens, it can accommodate a variety of lenses with its 1/3-inch bayonet lens mount. Adopting the successful tapeless workflow introduced in the GY-HM700 camcorder, the GY-HM790 features a dual card slot design that records to low-cost, non-proprietary SDHC Class 6 or 10 solid-state media cards. JVC’s native file recording technology allows recording in ready-to-edit file formats for Apple Final Cut Pro (.mov) and other majorNLE systems (.mp4) that are compatible with Sony XDCAM EX workflow.

An optional ASI output module provides a direct feed from the camera to a satellite uplink or microwave transmitter via BNC –no “black box”interfaces required –for live HD video from the field. Other ENG features on the GY-HM790 include an analogue SD pool feed input, 4.3-inch LCD screen, and a high-resolution, 1.2 megapixel LCOS viewfinder. Two XLR inputs with phantom power offer uncompressed LPCM audio recording with manual level controls.

“The excellent image quality of the GY-HM790, coupled with its versatility for both studio and ENG use, makes it an attractive camcorder for broadcasters in any DMA,”said Craig Yanagi, manager of marketing and brand strategy, JVC Professional Products, USA. “Plus, our optional ASI module makes it easier than ever to produce true HD reports from the field. The GY-HM790 does more than shoot great pictures; it literally changes the way live news reports can be produced.”With its HD/SD-SDI port, the GY-HM790 provides an uncompressed 4:2:2 full HD signal for live monitoring, and a FireWire port provides output of SD signals or the HDV transport stream, so footage can be backed up economically with an HDD recorder. An optional SxS media recorder module attaches directly to the camcorder and allows simultaneous recording to SDHC cards and SxS media.

The new GY-HM790 also builds on the studio capabilities of JVC’s popular GY-HD250 camera with its improved picture quality and cleaner studio integration. Its redesigned studio adapter sled incorporates a modular approach to multicore or fibre connectivity for a cleaner interface. Modules connect directly to the camera without external cabling, so they can be used either with the studio sled or handheld. Plus, JVC’s modular approach allows the creation of additional modules to accommodate future technologies.

Other new features for studio or multi-camera use include built-in time code in/out and genlock. JVC also offers a full complement of accessories, including a remote camera control unit, remote shader panel, 8.4-inch studio viewfinder, and multi-input special effects generators.

The GY-HM790 will be available this summer.

SAE Institute Announces International Launch of New ‘Digital Journalism’ Programme

Special Feature GY-HM100

SAE Institute Dubai, the world›s largest creative media educator, today announced the international launch of a new Digital Journalism programme in conjunction with its industry sponsor JVC Professional.

The details of the programme were announced at a press conference in Dubai. The event was attended by Romy Hawatt, Senior Executive of the SAE Group; Guy Warrington, British Consul-General; Professor Zbys Klich, Director of Academic Affairs at SAE Group; Christopher Darnley, General Manager-MEA, JVC Professional; and Ahmad Al Hammadi, Assistant Executive Director of Support Services, Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI).

Commencing in Dubai on 25 April, the new course will be progressively rolled out in the UK, Germany and the US where it is scheduled for launch in October 2010. Other SAE locations in Europe and Asia will subsequently follow.

Guy Warrington, British Consul-General, said: “It seems inevitable that within a few years the vast majority of people in the developed world will carry some form of mobile communication device at all times. This trend will almost certainly rapidly spread into the developing world. This desire to receive instant reports and information will likely drive the demand for more Digital Journalists to create and collate content and broadcast rapidly from just about any location.

“Digital Journalism is highly applicable to the modern world, and, as the representative of the British Government, I’m delighted to be here today in support of SAE. The company has strong ties to the UK, and our cutting edge creative environment. It›s great to see them launch this new strand of their innovative education programme.”

Occasionally referred to as ‘backpack journalism’, digital journalism is a growing profession that sees independent journalists traveling to all corners of the globe to file their stories.

Romy Hawatt said: “We live in a world hungry for 24/7 news. Generating a constant flow of information calls for increased mobility, flexibility, quality and speed of delivery - factors that all come under the spectrum and scope of the new age digital journalist.

“Be it news, lifestyle, current affairs, or travel, it is a fact that the capacity to quickly capture, collate, edit and distribute information is significantly altering the style of reporting and programming globally. We recognize this need and opportunity and our new Digital Journalism courses are designed to train new-comers as well as skilled professional journalists. We believe this will help and enhance industry standards and create employment opportunities at numerous levels.”

The press conference included a panel discussion on how digital journalism is contributing to the development of the media and communications industry globally. Ahmad Al Hammadi, Assistant Executive Director of Support Services, Dubai Media Incorporated (DMI, was among the experts who shared their views.

Romy Hawatt added: “The seismic shift from the big expensive crews to individuals properly trained and educated in Digital Journalism will open a new world of opportunity. At SAE, we promise to produce a new era of writer, director, camera and sound operator, production assistant, producer, editor and dispatcher all rolled into one. Who knows, we may even completely redefine the role of the traditional journalist altogether.”

Christopher Darnley, General Manager-MEA, JVC Professional, said: “SAE Institute Dubai is the leading creative media education provider in the world, and we are honoured to partner with them. Its educational programmes are in line with our products and technologies. The digital journalism course, in particular, is a perfect match for our company’s products as the students will benefit from our seamless integration with the latest non-linear softwares.”

Upon completion of the one-year programme, students will receive a professional diploma that will enable them to pursue a career in a vast number of areas including, news, lifestyle, special interest, publishing, online portals and broadcast such as radio or TV etc. This may be done as an employee or a freelancer.

Arabia to AfricaThe Arabia to Africa project follows a determined couple who have set out to drive from the UAE all the way to South Africa. They aim to raise awareness about various issues relating to orphanages in Africa, particularly in Zimbabwe, and are using the JVC GY-HM100 camera to film a nine-episode travel series of their exciting expedition.

The series will be presented by Sarah Kilalea, a well-known actress in the Middle East, and will be filmed and directed by Martin Leahy, who has a wealth of experience in the industry. They will be taking the GY-HM100 ProHD camcorder with them on their travels, so Sarah tells the main motivations for choosing it.

Special Feature GY-HM100

“We chose to approach JVC for this specific camera model because of its sheer ease of use. It came highly recommended by professionals within the industry and, because we are doing such an adventure-filled show, we needed a rugged, lightweight camera that would still give us high quality footage; the GY-HM100 was perfect for this!”

The documentary will follow Martin and Sarah’s four month journey, which will see them driving their Nissan Xterra from Dubai, through Oman and Yemen, take a ferry into Djibouti and drive down the east coast of Africa all the way to Cape Town, South Africa. They›ll be using the compact GY-HM100 to film the series and, as the team consists of a small filming crew, it allows

them to shoot footage of never seen before places, in areas where larger crews would be rejected.

“We were in Egypt filming the pilot and the tourism police merely thought it was a consumer camera – it’s that small,” Martin enthused. “But it packs a punch, as it’s full HD, and the greatest thing is that it records directly to SDHC cards and is directly compatible with Final Cut Pro on our Apple MacBook. All in all, we couldn›t be happier, the GY-HM100’s quality, size and durability is perfectly suited for long trips.”

Sarah and Martin began their journey 21st of September 2009 and have returned back to Dubai at the last week of March 2010.

GY-HM 100 and GY-HM700 at the Cabsat 2010 Creative Media Zone

As a special feature during the last Cabsat 2010 show, the organizers of CABSAT MENA in conjunction with Media Production Magazine launched the Creative Media Zone , an interactive content creation section which gave visitors the chance to explore and review the latest innovation for Audio and Video products. Equipped with the latest video and audio recording equipment, broadcast students from the renowned New York Film Academy (Abu Dhabi) roamed around during the show , collecting feedbacks, doing short movies , podcasts and conducting interviews with the exhibitors and visitors , which then these content were edited onsite and broadcasted live on the floor show all through out of the 3-day event.

Oasis Enterprises gladly participated for this section by providing JVC’s GY-HM100 and GY-HM700 , these new Pro-HD tapeless camcorders were chosen to be official camcorders used at the Creative Media Zone section and were perfect in recording high quality images , capturing all the action during the Cabsat event.

Sylvia Voss, Project Manager of Media Production Magazine tells TechKnowledge why JVC’S GY-HM100 was chosen for this activity:

“One of the reasons we choose JVC as one of our sponsors for our Creative Media Zone was the user-friendliness of its cameras in numerous areas, particularly in relation to fast setup and use as required by broadcast situations. The GY-HM700 had a low amount of grain and was able to capture excellent exposure with the given light conditions, with good vibrancy in the color space. The batteries lasted an ample amount of time as we were able to shoot the majority of the day at CABSAT and our Creative Media Zone without worrying about a battery change. In terms of the storage, the SD cards used provided ample amount of space to record into and the file formats made it particularly easy to ingest into final cut pro and proceed to work instantly. The smaller camera, HM100 we found to have similar user-friendliness as the bigger brother, it allows for almost full control of every aspect like it›s bigger brother with consciousness to pro-consumer levels of experience.”

Whether repurposing archive content, filming a live

sports event or music concert, or just creating a 3D

showreel for your reception, JVC’s new IF-2D3D1

will transform your 3D content creation workflow.

Thanks to industry-first algorithms developed by

JVC, the image processor enables real-time 2D

to 3D conversion of video footage - including high

quality HD - into a variety of 3D formats, making

an otherwise time-consuming and expensive task

extremely simple.

What’s more, the IF-2D3D1 supports L/R mixing

NewIF-2D3D1ImageProcessortohelpimprove3DworkflowJVC introduced the IF-2D3D1 Image Processor, which works as a 2D-to-3D converter and as a 3D L/R mixer for video content producers. Housed in a rugged, 1U rack-mountable metal cabinet and compatible with a wide range of high definition formats, the IF-2D3D1 is designed to help 3D content producers improve their workflow, whether they are converting archived 2D material or shooting original content in 3D.

With the public’s renewed interest in 3D for both theatrically released content and beyond, many content producers are looking to repurpose existing 2D materials to meet demand. Meanwhile, other producers creating new content need a simple way to check their 3D footage on location. The IF-2D3D1 Image Processor is ideal for both and is the key to providing new solutions for virtually any 3D content creation scenario.

Using unique JVC algorithms, the IF-2D3D1 converts 2D content to 3D in real time. It offers four 3D mixed formats, which combine left-eye and right-eye images, for stereo video output on a compatible device: line-by-line, side-by-side-half, above-below and checkerboard. JVC is making this 2D-to-3D conversion technology widely available under license. The IF-2D3D1 can also output discrete left and right signals via HD-SDI or HDMI for dual projection or editing. Output can be adjusted for parallax (image displacement) and 3D intensity, both with natural, anaglyph and sequential viewing modes.

Generally, 3D footage is shot using a pair of video cameras but producers have not had a practical method of real-time monitoring on location. The IF-2D3D1 easily combines the left-eye and right-eye images – nothing else is required except a 3D-capable monitor, such as JVC›s GD-463D10, a 46-inch 3D LCD panel. A built-in HD-SDI frame synchronizer provides sync for two cameras that lack external sync, while anaglyph and sequential viewing modes provide multiple ways to check 3D content.

Content creation workflow can also be improved through a variety of additional features. The Scope feature provides a waveform monitor and vectorscope for comparing both video streams on a display to ensure the settings for both cameras – such as exposure and white balance – are matched. The Split feature combines the two video streams on one screen with a moveable boundary, allowing instant L/R comparison. And when one of the two cameras has to be positioned upside down (to ensure correct spacing), Rotation makes sure both streams can be viewed the right way up and in sync.

3G and dual link screens from JVC

JVC has expanded its DT-V series of HD multi-format LCD monitors with three new models, the DT-V17G1, DT-V20L3G and DT-V24G1. The displays, which are ideal for critical OB and studio applications and widely used throughout the post and broadcast industries, feature a superimposed waveform monitor, improved latency of less than one frame and are now 3G and dual-link equipped.

The DT-V17G1 is the best choice for a compact field or studio monitor in television studios, remote production vans, production and post facilities and other demanding professional applications.

It features a waveform monitor, which can be positioned in any of the four corners of the screen, with an ‘over’ level function offering clear indication of possible problem areas. In addition, there is greatly reduced delay between the input signal and the image display, and a wide colour gamut, ensuring faithful picture reproduction.

The monitors feature IPS (Inplane Panel Switching) panels, with a wide viewing angle of 178/178 and low chromatic variation, ensuring minimal colour change from different viewing positions. The DT-V24G1 monitor has a resolution of 1920x1200, the DT-V20L3G is 1680x1050, while the smaller DT-V17G1 screen has a resolution of 1366x768 and can also be powered via battery for use out in the field, enabling you to monitor in HD as you shoot.

A new high quality vector scope on the monitors allows simple checking of hue and saturation of digital video signals. These are displayed as a graphic with resolution of 254 x 254, and are compatible with video, component, SDI (SD and HD) and DVI (not PC) input signals. The vector has a choice of display positions and translucence.

Traditional front panel operation means anyone used to working with a CRT monitor will find the rotary controls on the DT-V series immediately familiar. These convenient controls let you quickly adjust picture and volume, as well as providing fast, direct access to a variety of functions.

The wide viewing angles and high brightness, together with excellent focus and contrast performance, set JVC’s industry leading DT-V Series monitors apart from the competition and make them an excellent choice for any critical monitoring application.

Vivid Fire and IceSatisfy your passion for colour. Vivid™ Fire and Vivid Ice Selador Series LED illuminators, new from ETC

ETC’s Vivid Fire and Vivid Ice LED illuminators continue the intense powerhouse colour of the Selador Series fixtures. Fire burns with an unequalled light intensity across the warm red-orange-yellow palette, while Ice cools down the stage with brilliant, soulful shades of blue. This is not about balance and moderation in lighting design -- these are the extremes of colour passion. Designers, satisfy your need for saturated colour! Icy hues have never been so hot, and fiery hues have never been so cool. These are the tools of a new lighting design: high intensity LED colour bright enough to blend seamlessly with your conventional-fixtures’ gel output -- for spectacularly lush washes of light.

Fire and Ice provide a great way for your facility to reap the benefits of stunning LED colour and dramatic wattage reductions. In a typical colour application these fixtures consume 70 watts of power compared to their tungsten counterparts at 575 watts or more. Most productions employ deep colours -- Fire and Ice provide them at brightness levels that are usable all over the stage.

Replace high-powered single-colour cool and warm luminaires in themed environments and reap huge power and maintenance savings. Accent your environment’s lighting with low power consumption.

PROFESSIONAL LIGHTING

COEMAR INFINITY MSpot, Wash, ACL “MULTI-lamp”concept The Infinity M series gives extraordinary continuity to the logical expansion of the successful Infinity range, and offers the most technologically advanced professional lighting tools, sized in a micro body. Designed to be the next generation of essential moving lights, this family of fixtures introduces the “multiple-lamp” concept.

The technique used for the “MULTI-lamp” concept allows the fixture to be compatible with future developed lamps. This integration is making the light ready for energy saving lamps, or any kind of lamps that will be made available in the future.

This key concept, at the request of various service providers, has lead to the development of the Infinity M. A product which, in compact dimensions (approximately the size of a 250W moving yoke fixture), may be used as both a 575W and a 700W fixture, two lamp wattages which have now been a standard on the market for years, both with their specific characteristics, meaning known advantages and disadvantages.

With this key flexibility, the Infinity M concludes a unique factor of being compatible with the in ternational riders both as a 575W and as a 700W unit, eliminating the need to stock both models for the rental companies that are in the position to follow the specifications more than make them, while making the most out of a small, fully featured, professional fixture.

Technically, Coemar utilizes its own patent US 6.953,269 B2, which allows the dimmer-ability of the air flux according to the power absorbed by the lamp, and makes the most of a technologically advanced electronic ballast which digitally adjusts to the lamp installed in the fixture.

GLP5-Color Impression XL

GLP earlier announced the new and additional fixture to their popular Impression range of LED based moving heads. It is from their XL range of units which feature 240 K2 LED’s delivering extremely high light output and brilliant color performance. The new fixture, referred to as the ‘RGBWW’, features five colors, rather than the previous three. Adding to the red, green and blue diodes are two circuits of white – one rated at 3200K and the other at 7200K.

Adding two white channels to the existing RGB format, gives designers more shades of color than was achievable before, particularly with pastel ranges, and the ability to use single white LED’s for powerful and clean open white beams.

The GLP Impression XL weighs only 23.5 kg / 52 lbs. and has the same innovative design as previous impression fixtures featuring no fixture base, low noise operation, simple yet comprehensive menu navigation by thumbwheel and multiple rigging options.

Featuring flicker free dimming throughout the entire dimming range for all colours, the Impression XL works perfectly in all camera and broadcast environments. The fixture comes fitted with a 10 degree lens as standard, but 25 degree and 40 degree interchangeable lenses are available as optional extras. Further accessories such as honeycomb fronts, spill-ring, flight cases and a 5-unit ‘flower’ rigging option are also available.

The GLP Impression XL features extensive movement with a 660 degree pan range and a 330 degree tilt range, all with 16 bit resolution and a speedy response due to its low weight.

The LED technology that the GLP impression XL utilises allows users to skip the cost and time required for repairing items such as dichroic filters, bad lamps, worn reflectors, failing starters and much more found in conventional discharge fixtures.

SECURITY AND PROFESSIONAL SURVEILLANCE

New security cameras perform precisecolour reproduction in low light situationsJVC’s latest range of security cameras feature new Super LoLux™ technology, delivering precise colour reproduction under virtually zero light conditions; as low as 0.05 lux in colour mode and 0.006 lux in black-and-white mode. The cameras also provide high resolution with 580 TV lines and feature a powerful new 12-bit digital signal processor, which delivers high quality images. A variety of other features allow for precise monitoring, including automatic gain control, automatic electronic shutter, 1.4x/2.0x digital zoom and privacy mask for protecting against intrusive monitoring.

Super LoLux™ features:

Super LoLux cameras prove that precise colour reproduction is possible in low light conditionsJVC Professional is pleased to announce the success of its latest trials of its new Super LoLux™ cameras – which deliver precise colour reproduction under virtually zero light conditions – alongside its competitors at the Raytec lighting demo night.

Consultants and end users at the event were able to see how JVC’s Super LoLux™ performed during white and IR lighting tests, and when the lighting was dim or even off - relying only on the surrounding ambient light with amazing results.

JVC’s surveillance cameras with SLL technology have been designed to assure precise colour reproduction in low light situations, enabling users to identify image colours in much darker places. The added 3D noise reduction function is a powerful method to improve image quality despite the fact that images are shot in the dark.

The Raytec demo, which was set up at night, proved that overall JVC’s Super LoLux cameras are leaders in this category. The range, which includes TK-C9200E for easy D/N and TK-C9300E for True D/N which are box-style cameras, produce precise colour reproduction in light conditions as low as 0.05 lux in colour mode and 0.006 lux in black-and-white mode.

In addition, JVC demonstrated the super high-resolution mega-pixel IP camera, the VN-X35U, which also performed outstandingly well in low light conditions.

Fine Focus Adjustment Technology

For assisting focusing to the finest point, the Variable-Focal lens now incorporates a newly developed focus gear mechanism (Patent Pending).

Super LoLux™ “COLOUR IN VIRTUAL ZERO LUX”

This camera has been designed to assure precise colour reproduction in low light situations. It is possible to identify image colors in much darker places.

3D Noise Reduction (3DNR)

3DNR is the powerful method to improve image quality even though it’s shot in the dark. Noise data is detected by comparing some continuous frames and reduced by blending it into other frames over time.

Monitor Output for Quick Installation

An external monitor can be connected via the RCA jack. You can easily check the camera angle on the spot during or after installation.
