2016 Annual Report
TechGirlz is a 501(c)3 nonprofit dedicated to
reducing the gender gap in technology
occupations.
We develop fun and educational handson
workshops, called TechShopz, and an annual
Entrepreneur Summer Camp.
These efforts aim to get middleschool age girls
interested in different kinds of technology and
demonstrate the varied options of careers
available.
We enable them to interact with professionals who
have carved out successful careers in technology
fields, and empower them to be future technology
leaders.
</about>
TechShopz are run by TechGirlz. Approximately 20 are scheduled
each year with 1520 girls per workshop.
We pilot new topics in the Philadelphia area and develop workshop
plans for TechShopz in a Box™ out of successful new topics.
Volunteers are the lifeblood of our organization.
Whether they are guiding and creating our curricula, running
their own TechShopz, or attending community events to
spread the word about our work, our volunteers are why
TechGirlz has worked with close to 5000 girls in 5 years.

The TechShopz in a
Box™ program has allowed
TechGirlz to teach girls beyond
just the Philadelphia area.
In 20152016, TechGirlz has
increased our area of
influence across the united
states.
TechGirlz has also gone
international, with TIB courses
being led in Canada, Paraguay
and Belgium.
With Techshopz in a Box™, we
hope to continue to inspire girls
across the nation and around
the globe!
TechGirlz knows technology
is more than just coding!
Our Techshopz in
Box™ show the breadth of
what tech can do.
We have created our short
interactive TechShopz with
our girls and volunteer
instructors in mind.
You can bring a TechShopz

TechGirlz Techshopz and
Techshopz in a Box™ are free for
anyone to use. We believe
spreading the joy of technology
should be easy. Not having to
raise funds to have a TechShopz
is one way to make it that way.
So how do we fund TechGirlz?
Through grants, donations,
sponsorships, fundraising events
and the Women in Tech Summit.
How do we spend this money?
went directly to programming
went to operations
went to development
New Program: School/Student Progam
This year, TechGirlz launched the
Student/School program.
This program allows high school and
college students, who are learning
technology skills themselves, to plan
and run a TechShopz in a Box™ event
with their teacher for middle schoolers
in their community.
Our pilot of this program was done with
Philadelphia Academies at Roxborough
High School.
“The girls did amazing. We practiced
beforehand to make sure everyone knew
their part and what to do support the
instructor. Each student taught a different
skills and we all supported that instructor. I
even had a bet with my girls that if I started
talking and taking over – I would have to buy
them M&Ms, and if I don’t break in and start
teaching they have to buy me M&Ms. Good
news – I won – but I will still buy them
M&Ms!”
Debbie Bender, Teacher at Roxborough
Academy
We know we can reach more girls with
our TechShopz in a Box™ program. We
decided to aim big because we know the
more girls we inspire, the more will go
out and inspire other girls!
