HackerankAt Salt we truly believe in diversity and inclusion. This includes using tools such as Hackerank to
give candidates with limited experience but the highest ability the chance to apply for roles. 9/10
of other recruiters wouldn’t even consider them.
Hackerank is a web-based coding test. It allows us to send out tests in over 29 different
languages, to candidates to complete. This should help to erase the theory that CVs can tell if
someone is good at coding or not.
The main features are:
-Automated code-checker
-Plagiarism detection
-Reports and results that show exactly how long and at what point the candidate wrote code.
We have had huge success with Hackerank, having a senior IOS developer role test topped by
an 18 year old student with zero experience. The candidate beat IOS developers whom had up
to 8 years development experience.
Stack OverflowStack Overflow is a question and answer site for programmers, we use this as tool to contact
potential candidates and present opportunities to them. Any developers at the forefront of tech
will have visibility on this, so it’s a great avenue to find top talent. We also use Stack Overflow for
advertising vacancies and introducing ourselves to prospective clients with whom we have had
great success.
Meet-upsWe are hugely involved in the Meet-up community, driving thought leadership in the hosting
and sponsorship of key events. We set the agenda and invite key thought leaders to share their
views of the market. By being an integral part of this community, Salt increases engagement both
with clients and candidates.
GitHubGitHub is a great place to find candidates and view the code they have produced. Many
candidates will have a full portfolio of their projects and code they have worked on. We are
able to send these profiles directly to clients who can see clearly the level of a candidate’s
programming skills.
