About Tech 4

Learners

Tech 4 Learners is a 1:1 parental

contribution programme for schools

run by financial solutions provider and

educational specialists Freedom Tech,

enabling us to give our pupils access

to technology that will greatly enhance

their learning experience.

Freedom Tech have a strong

background in education and partner

with leading manufacturers and

resellers in education technology.

They are financially stable and wholly

owned by CSI Leasing, one of the

world’s largest leasing companies with

over $1.6 billion in assets.

At Tauheedul Islam Boys’ High School we are com-

mitted to providing the best learning experiences for

our pupils, and preparing them for the wider world

outside of school. We strongly believe that this means

providing pupils with access to technology to trans-

form their current academic journey as well as getting

them ready for any future job roles and responsibili-

ties.

We want to aspire for each and every pupil to have

their own personalised learning device which they

can use at home and going forward will be able to use

at school. Teaching and learning will never be the

same because of the pandemic with opportunities for

Ed-Tech to be used as a key game changer in the way

lessons are taught and how pupils learn both at home

and at school.

We know that for some parents, making an invest-

ment in technology isn’t always possible. There may

be situations where technology is available at home,

but it may not be suitable to bring it into school as

and when we plan to use devices in our classrooms

because of issues with security, compatibility and the

fact that it may not be a mobile device.

In order to provide seamless access to technology, we

have partnered with Freedom Tech to launch the

Tech 4 Learners 1:1 device programme to support our

parents and pupils to purchase a device which is fit

for purpose for school use with affordability and

pragmatic purchasing at the heart of our thinking.

How it works

Parents will make fixed monthly

payments to purchase the device.

There is also an option to pay in full if

this is preferred.

For parents and pupils, Tech 4

Learners offers:

The latest technology for pupils: a

personalised learning device they

can use at home and going

forward at school

Enhanced learning outcomes

through consistent access to

technology and powerful learning

resources

Fully insured technology - each

device is protected in the event of

accidental damage or theft, for 3

years regardless of if you have

paid up front, or overtime

The ability to pay for the latest

technology in manageable

monthly payments

No personal credit checks - get up

and running and contributing

The device is yours at the end of

the payment schedule at no extra

cost

“We want to aspire for each and

every pupil to have their own per-

sonalised learning device which

they can use at home and going

forward will be able to use at

school.”

How technology helps

pupils learn

The Covid-19 pandemic has clearly

demonstrated the importance of IT with

regards to accessing remote learning. There is

no doubt that an individual’s experience

online will have been influenced vastly by the

standard of the device they used to access the

remote learning. Having their own learning

device helps pupils get seamless access to

lesson resources which are designed to make

the most of technology and have a positive

impact on progress. Being competent with

technology is becoming increasingly

important in the wider world and as a school

we want to ensure our pupils are as prepared

as possible for a digital society. There have

been numerous studies that suggest more

positive outcomes for pupils are achieved

when they are given frequent and consistent

access to technology.

Tauheedul Islam Boys High School

1:1 Device Scheme - Frequently Asked Questions

Which device have you chosen for TIBHS pupils and why?

We have elected to equip our pupils with the following high-quality device:

Microsoft Surface Go 2, 2 in 1 device, M3, 4GB, 64GB with keyboard type cover, surface pen and rugged case

After trialling a wide range of devices, from entry level laptops to high end tablets, we feel that our chosen device has the

functionality to access the entire suite of Microsoft applications and combines all the benefits of a tablet and a traditional

laptop in a smaller, lighter size. The specification of our chosen device will ensure its longevity over a three-year period and

we are confident that it will be a popular choice with our pupils. And knowing that the device is covered with Accidental

Damage Protection Cover as well as the extended warranty for all payment options we feel will give great peace of mind to

the parents also.

Why not iPads?

TIBHS adopted the IT strategy to become a fully integrated Microsoft School and are currently a Microsoft Incubator School

with ambitions to be a showcase school in the near future. The introduction of one common Management Information

System across TIBHS in 2018 paved the way to design and introduce a school wide SharePoint site and move teachers and

pupils to a cloud-based solution using OneDrive and the Office 365 suite of applications and products.

The Microsoft range of applications is world-class and will set the pupils at TIBHS up for the world of work or university. Pupils

will leave TIBHS confident with the Office 365 suite of products, which is the elite work- place standard, globally. Pupils will

be trained in using OneDrive and develop practical working knowledge of cloud storage which will prepare them for industry

– whatever route they choose. During the pandemic, the school used a suite of Microsoft applications to deliver its remote

learning and communications, using Teams, OneNote, Forms and Sway.

Apple iPads are not fully integrated with the Microsoft operating platform and would limit the potential for use in teaching

and learning.

I have just purchased a device for my son to use at home, why should I sign up to the TIBHS scheme?

No-one has to opt in to this scheme: it is entirely voluntary. However, there are significant advantages in doing so.

This device is very likely to become an integral part of each pupil’s school equipment. As the school is continuing to reflect

on the powerful impact on EdTech and how we can change our Teaching and Learning pedagogical model, going forward

pupils maybe encouraged to use their device in class, file their notes electronically, and collaborate with their peers and

teachers.

Would you be launching this scheme if it weren’t for the Coronavirus Lockdown?

Yes, TIBHS is striving to become a showcase school and were using many of the Microsoft suite of applications prior to the

Pandemic. Over the past two years, TIBHS has made huge advancements in IT and the use of technology in school, all

facilitated by the introduction of one common IT system across all areas of TIBHS. The devices will not just be helpful, should

a period of remote learning take place again: they will also be integral to helping pupils manage resources, keep notes,

submit homework, work in class in and work independently. Our IT strategy is a long-term and carefully thought through

one.

Page 6: Tech 4 Learners Pupil Device Provision Programme...2021/02/22  · At Tauheedul Islam Boys’ High School we are com-mitted to providing the best learning experiences for our pupils,

Do I have to pay monthly?

No. You can choose to pay upfront if you would like. You would still benefit from the 3-year warranty and accidental damage and theft protection package, whichever option you choose.

There are no credit checks and the scheme is open to all pupils from Years 7 – Year 10, with different arrangements

depending on the length of time left at TIBHS.

What happens if I miss a payment, find that I cannot afford the scheme or my child leaves TIBHS?

You would have to return the device to TIBHS or alternatively pay the outstanding payments to take ownership of the

device. You will not own the device until the final payment is made.

My son has less than three years left at TIBHS but would really like to take part in the scheme – is this possible?

Yes, you are still more than welcome to be part of the scheme and would get the same benefits from the package as all

other year groups. You would just have less payment options available to you.

What happens to the device at the end of the payment profile chosen?

At the end of the term chosen you will own the device outright, subject to all payments having been met.

How do I sign up to the scheme?

Follow the link in the flyer to the TIBHS and Freedom Tech portal and sign up to the scheme. The portal is open until

Midnight on the 10th March 2021. You will be asked to enter your direct debit details if you choose to pay monthly with

your first payment being debited from your account on 25th March 2021. If opting to pay up front, your payment will be

taken immediately.

When will the device arrive?

Once you have registered with the portal, the devices will be delivered to school and the school will arrange for the

distribution of the devices. This will take place in the middle of April, earlier if they are available sooner.

I am concerned that my son spends too much time in front of a screen, and I don’t want him to do more of this at school. Is

this the right decision for TIBHS?

The IT strategy is to enhance the learning experience not replace it – our pupils will still be equipped with all the traditional

skills that TIBHS provides but also ensures that our enterprising pupils are prepared for the future. Through the adoption

of Microsoft Education packages, we are working hard to ensure that the huge amount of progress made during the remote

learning period is built on and developed further in the classroom. Our aim is to ensure that the use of technologies such

as Class Notebook and Teams enhances the learning experience at TIBHS, encourages collaboration and creates a seamless

link between school and home.

Will this device help my son keep their notes in order?

Yes. Whilst we continue to teach outstanding lessons in the classroom, the device and move to cloud storage will provide easy

access to the online lesson and the resources used in lessons. This will be invaluable for pupils who have missed lessons,

misplaced a file or their notes or left that all important homework in their locker! This is the way that university teaching and

learning has developed and will prepare our pupils for higher education and independent study.

Will my son be able to use their device for personal and school use?

Yes. At TIBHS we firmly believe in educating our pupils to use their devices safely and sensibly through our safety and

pastoral programmes. Therefore, pupils will be able to use their devices as they would at home but will be expected to

adhere to school rules as normal when in lessons.

Page 7: Tech 4 Learners Pupil Device Provision Programme...2021/02/22  · At Tauheedul Islam Boys’ High School we are com-mitted to providing the best learning experiences for our pupils,

If most pupils have an identical device, how will you ensure that they don’t get mixed up?

When pupils receive their devices we would encourage them to set their lock screen as a picture of themselves or something

which easily identifies them should they misplace their device around school.

What happens if we don’t sign up to the scheme and my son does not have access to a device in lessons and other pupils do?

All of the advice and our own research all indicates that the more pupils that have access to a device, the more impact it

has on learning in the classrooms – this is why we have worked hard to provide a device with such high specification at such

a competitive price for parents. We would be delighted if all of our pupils opted into the scheme. However, we accept that

not all parents will want to join the scheme, particularly if pupils only have a short time left with us at school. As always the

school will ensure that there is no unfairness with regards to pupils achieving their maximum potential.

What happens if my son damages the device or it breaks down?

This is covered by the policy provided by Freedom Technology. All calls are logged via the Freedom Tech portal

https://freedomtech.co.uk/help/ on logging a claim you will receive an automated ticket number and a member of the

service team will contact you to arrange collection and repair of the faulty or damaged device. The helpdesk is open from

Monday to Friday between 8AM and 6PM.

How do I claim for warranty, accidental damage or theft?

You will be provided with policy documentation detailing how to make claim. Please note that the Surface Pen and Surface

Type Cover are not covered by the policy – it is for the Microsoft Surface Go 2 only.

What is the excess on claims?

There is no excess on the either the accidental damage, theft or warranty protection. This is a huge benefit of this scheme.
