STATEMENTOFPURPOSE
WoodsTechnologyIIisafull-yearcoursethatwillrefinestudentskillsintheareaofstructuraldesign,jointformation,precisiontoolusage,woodfinishing,laminating,andhardwareselection/installation.ThecourseisdesignedtobetakenonceastudenthassuccessfullycompletedayearofWoodsTechnologyI,andwillaffordeachindividualtheopportunitytofullyinvestigatecareerpossibilities.TheWoodsTechnologyIIcurriculumwillgowellbeyondtheexploratoryphaseofWoodsTechnologyI.Newinstruments,tools,techniques,andtechnologieswillbeutilizedthroughouttheyear.Eachstudentwillperformdetailedlayoutdesignsandfollowproceduresthatarecurrentlybeingusedinrelatedfieldseachday.Separatelyweassessstudentstogaugeprogressandinforminstruction.Benchmarkassessmentsforstudentsingrades9through12areadministeredintheformofamidtermandfinalexamforfullyearcourses.*SpecialNote:Onlyfinalexamsareadministeredattheendofquartercoursesandsemester
RATIONALE
TherevisedWoodsTechnologyIIcurriculum(formerlycalledCabinetmaking)waschangedtobetteridentifythenewtechnologiesintroducedintotheprogramisdesignedtoreflectthemanyindustrychangesthathaveoccurredoverrecentyears.Theintegrationandutilizationoftechnologyhasresultedinnumerouschangesintheworkplaceenvironment.TheWoodsTechnologyIIcourseusesthemasteryofskillstosolverealworldproblems,incorporateteamwork/cooperativelearningstrategies,andemphasize efficient human resourcemanagement practices. These practiceswill impart knowledge and instill confidence in each studentwhilebuildinglife-longoccupationalskills,whichwillservehim/herthroughhis/herlife.Throughouttheyear,theWoodsTechnologyIIcurriculumofferseachstudentavarietyofprojectchoices,andoptionsandisdirectlyalignedwiththeNewJerseyStandardsforTechnology,theNewJerseyStandardsfor21stCenturyLifeandCareers,andtheStudentLearningEnglishLanguageArtsStandardsforScienceandStudentLearningTechnicalSubjects.

THELIVINGCURRICULUM
Curriculumguidesaredesignedtobeworkingdocuments.Teachersareencouragedtomakenotesinthemargins.Writtencommentscanserveasthebasisforfuturerevisions.Inaddition,theteachersandadministratorsareinvitedtodiscusselementsoftheguidesasimplementedintheclassroomandtoworkcollaborativelytodeveloprecommendationsforcurriculumreformsasneeded.
AFFIRMATIVEACTION
Duringthedevelopmentofthiscourseofstudy,particularattentionwaspaidtomaterial,whichmightdiscriminateonthebasisofsex,race,religion,nationalorigin,orcreed.Everyefforthasbeenmadetoupholdboththeletterandspiritofaffirmativeactionmandatesasappliedtothecontent,thetextsandtheinstructioninherentinthiscourse.
MODIFICATIONSANDADAPTATIONS
Forguidelinesonhowtomodifyandadaptcurriculatobestmeettheneedsofallstudents,instructionalstaffshouldrefertotheCurriculumModificationsandAdaptationsincludedasanAppendixinthiscurriculum.InstructionalstaffofstudentswithIndividualizedEducationPlans(IEPs)mustadheretotherecommendedmodificationsoutlinedineachindividualplan.
