Welcome to a new century at Temple Etz Chaim!

We are switching over to Mishkan Hanefesh for our High Holiday prayer book. This is an exciting change for our congregation. It is gender inclusive and modern. Be the first to help us purchase the books that will help keep our worship relevant to our lives. For a $54.00 donation, we will attach a bookplate in both volumes, in honor or in memory of a person or event of your choosing. See our online donation form to memorialize or honor someone in the new books. The deadline to purchase book plates for this year is July 22nd.

the Torah. This is an uplifting service that marks the anni-

versary of the giving of the 10 commandments to Moses

and the Israelites at Mt. Sinai and celebrates the end of the

grain harvest in Israel. As the Jewish people made a cove-

nant with God on this day, so too, our young adults reaf-

firm their commitment to their Jewish heritage. Please join

us for this special service and to honor the Confirmation

students. As a community we send a hearty mazel tov to

the following confirmation students: Frederick Beckmann,

Benjamin Cohn, Jenna Goodman and Abigail Pfeffer.

Tikkun Leil Shavuot A Study Session

For The Holiday of Shavuot

Saturday, June 11 (6 Sivan) 8:00 - 10:00 pm at Temple Building For centuries, Jews have spent the evening of the holiday of Shavuot engaged in study. This has prepared us for the festival that marks the receiving of the Torah at Mount Sinai. Join us at Temple Etz Chaim on June 11, Erev Shavuot, for our first Tikkun Leil Shavuot, where we will be learning about the Ten Com-mandments from The Ten Commandments. We will see the way that this classic film acts as a Midrash, an interpretation, of the Biblical text. It is traditional on Shavuot to eat dairy foods, so please join us for bagels, blintzes, and Bible. RSVP to Rabbi Alpert: [email protected] (508) 528-5337

Upcoming Events

Shavuot Walk & Study Sunday, June 12 11:00 am DelCarte Conservation Area Pleasant Street, Franklin

The festivals of Sukkot, Passover, and Shavuot are called shalosh regalim, usually translated as the “Three Pilgrimage Festivals.” But literally, it just means, the three walking times. In ancient days, our people would walk to Jerusalem in pilgrimages to make sacrifices on these festivals. We don’t do that anymore, but we can learn from them by tak-ing time to walk and think on these days. So, we are having walking days on each of these festivals. Join us for a con-templative walk and study.

Update from Knitzvah

by Sue Cass

by Miriam Goodman

by Grace Kooper

by Emily Harvey

With circular, straight and double-pointed needles flying, Knitzvah members have been busy all year with a wide variety of personal projects. The group “Knit Along” challenged everyone with a pattern for a teddy bear, using a special multicolored yarn that creates Fair Isle patterns. Several people accepted the challenge with outstanding results. Other projects included hats, scarves, fingerless mitts, baby garments, blankets and sweaters. Since pictures speak much louder than words, here are some samples of our output.

Keep in mind that the beginning of warm weather does not need to signal the end of knitting. Small projects are a great way to while away hours at the beach. There are many patterns for spring accessories and light-weight sweaters. The yarn stores are now carrying lots of linen and cotton yarns which will be just right for the warmer months.

Our group will continue to meet through the summer, on Sundays, at the temple building. The dates will be posted on the temple calendar. As always, we welcome any interested knitters regardless of skill level. Prior knitting experience is not re-quired; we will provide instruction. No RSVP is necessary. New knitters need no materials; we have yarn and needles to share – all you need to bring is you! Contact Sue Cass for questions.
