▪ God (1 Cor. 3:10-15; 2 Cor. 5:10)

▪ Other Christians

Spouses, close friends, co-workers, CG members, unit heads and

pastors. (Philip. 2:4; Heb. 10:23-24; James 5:16).

▪ Authority Figures (Rom 13:3-4)

WE ARE ACCOUNTABLE TO:

Accountability

To be accountable means to be answerable for something within

one's power, control or purview. Accountability is a check and

balance system meant to protect us from harm from ourselves and

others.

WHAT IS ACCOUNTABILITY?

WHY DO WE NEED ACCOUNTABILITY IN CHURCH?

▪ It enables us to share our lives with one

another in a deep, introspective way.

▪ It enables us to receive encouragement to

grow in spiritual maturity. Hebrews 10:24

▪ Accountability helps instil the warning

precepts that God has given us.

Accountability

THE ESSENTIAL ELEMENTS OF CHRISTIAN ACCOUNTABILITY

▪ In order to establish Christian accountability, there needs

to be trust.

▪ Active listening is essential to developing trust. (James

1:19)

▪ Have a non-judgmental attitude (Matthew 7:1-2)

▪ Genuinely caring for each other. (1 John 4:21)

Accountability

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF:

▪ Are you accountable?

▪ Do you have a friend/mentor whom you can open up to?

▪ Will that person hold you accountable in your spiritual walk?

▪ Are you the type of person that people can come to when

they need accountability?

▪ Do you want a Christian accountability partner?

Accountability

• Service is the only true path to greatness (Mark 9:35)

Service

• Kingdom Service is the act of demonstrating God’s love to others by doing something for their benefit without any expectation for them to pay us back (Matt 10:42)

Service

• We were created to serve God and humanity.

Service

HOW LOW CAN YOU GO TO SERVE?

▪ Can you be the bus driver bringing people to church from your zone?

▪ Can you serve the less privileged in outreaches?

▪ Can you stand for hours ushering people to their seats?

▪ Can you direct people in the car park?▪ Can you wipe runny noses in Junior Church?

Etc.

QUESTIONS TO ASK YOURSELF:

Service

Humility means having a balanced sense of

self-worth.

Humility

We are made in the image and likeness of God and all

authorities have been given to us. (Gen 1:26-27, )

But…

The bible also warns us not to think too highly of

ourselves than we ought. (Rom 12:3)

True humility is not thinking less of yourself.

It is thinking of yourself less.

– Rick Warren

Humility

▪ Humility is a function of your heart not empty outward

appearances.

▪ True humility is rooted in the understanding that of ourselves

we are NOTHING and can do NOTHING.

▪ A humble heart attracts divine grace (1 peter 5:5- God give grace

to the humble)

▪ Humility is one of the foremost tests of a truly great person or

leader (Luke 22:24-27)

Humility

HUMILITY IN ACTION

You can defuse arguments when you are humble.

▪ You don't need to stand up for yourself in an angry manner.

And you don't have to win every argument.

▪ A gentle answer turns away wrath, but a harsh word stirs

up anger. (Proverbs 15:1)

Humility

HUMILITY IN ACTION

You can handle unfair treatment peacefully when you are

humble.

▪ You can respond to unfair treatment without becoming

bitter. Godly humility means you do not feel a need for

revenge.

▪ Get rid of all bitterness, anger, rage, slander, and every

form of malice. Be kind and compassionate to one another,

forgiving each other, just as God in Christ forgave you.

(Ephesians 4:31-32)

Humility

HUMILITY IN ACTION

You do not have to put on a "false front" when

you are humble.

When you understand God and humility, you don't

need to act like a big shot.

The more you know God, the less you have to prove.

Humility

HUMILITY IN ACTION

You can eat "humble pie" without feeling

crushed when you are humble.

▪ When you are humble, you can respond to and learn

from criticism without becoming defensive—whether

it is deserved or not deserved. Likewise, you can be

aware of your failures without being emotionally

devastated.

Humility

HUMILITY IN ACTION

You can talk with the right attitude when you are

humble.

▪ You can talk courteously and lovingly, regardless of the situation—

even if you need to be firm or take strong action.

▪ Do not let any unwholesome talk come out of your mouths, but

only what is helpful for building others up according to their

needs, that it may benefit those who listen. (Ephesians 4:29)

Humility

HOW CAN YOU IMPROVE YOUR HUMILITY?

1. How would you define the meaning of humility (or the

meaning of "humble“) from the Bible?

2. How can you show humility this week?

3. Write a prayer asking God to help you understand the Bible's

message about humility and to help you be more humble:

CHARACTER TRAITS IN LOVING PEOPLE

“…bearing with one another and, if one has a complaint against

another, forgiving each other (Colossians 3:12-13).’

1.Be patient with each other.

▪ Bear one another's burdens, and so fulfil the law of Christ

(Galatians 6:2).

▪ Patience in the midst of frustration and trial is one of the

most shining examples of biblical love.

2. Be Generous.

▪ This means living with an ‘other-focused’,

self-sacrificing spirit. It means living with

kindness, encouraging others, and offering

our good works to one another.

▪ Therefore encourage one another and build

one another up (1 Thessalonians 5:11).

Love

The integrity of the upright will guide them, but the

perversity of the unfaithful will destroy them. – Proverbs

11:3

Integrity

▪ This is the quality of being honest and having strong moral

principles, moral uprightness The state of being whole and

undivided.

▪ Integrity is a basic element of Christian character.

▪ Integrity is like the foundation of a house. If it is unstable, the

entire house may come apart when it comes under pressure.

Integrity

WAYS TO MEASURE INTEGRITY

▪ Consider the following ten questions:

▪ What are you like when no one else is around?

▪ How do you treat others who can’t benefit you?

▪ How sincere, humble and transparent are you?

▪ Are you the same person when you are with different people?

▪ Are you the same person in public as in private?

▪ Do you quickly admit to yourself and others when you’re wrong?

Integrity

BECOMING A PERSON OF INTEGRITY

▪ Commit yourself to cultivate honesty, reliability and confidentiality.

▪ Decide ahead of time that you will do the right thing no matter what.

▪ Prioritize any activity where your credibility is at stake.

▪ Write out and review all your commitments regularly.

▪ Do what you should do before you do what you want to do.

Integrity

BENEFITS OF BEING A PERSON OF INTEGRITY

▪ Two of the most important consequences are: enjoying the trust and respect of others.

▪ We know we have been a success when those who know us best respect us the most.

▪ The road to integrity is not always easy, but it is the only one worth traveling on because it’s the only one that ultimately takes you where you want to go.

Integrity

WARNING SIGNS OF AN INTEGRITY PROBLEM

YOU FAIL TO DO WHAT YOU SAID YOU WERE GOING TO DO.

Better to say nothing and surprise someone by delivering than makingpromises you can’t fulfil.

RULE OF THUMB: Say less and deliver more.

Sometimes a lack of integrity isn’t even a moral issue – just an awareness andorganization issue.

Ultimately, people lose confidence in you when you fail to deliver.

YOU MAKE TOO MANY COMPROMISES.

Leadership is not about getting everyone to like you or about finding theeasiest path. It’s about discerning the best way forward. It’s about gettingpeople to go where they wouldn’t go if it wasn’t for leadership. If you maketoo many decisional compromises or even a handful of personalcompromises, your effectiveness will be undermined.

Integrity

43

WARNING SIGNS OF AN INTEGRITY PROBLEM

IT’S ALWAYS ALL ABOUT YOU.

Selfish people harm their teams, organizations, families and friends. They rarely go the distance. Those who do hurt a lot of people in the process.

YOUR SELF ESTEEM RISES AND FALLS WITH THE OPINION OF OTHERS.

A secure leader can see the right way and lead people there through tough conditions. An insecure leader will bend with every change in public opinion. Which means you’re not actually leading anyone, not even yourself.

YOU HIDE THINGS.

You shouldn’t be telling everyone everything (that’s not healthy) – but someone needs to know everything. If you’re keeping secrets, you’re heading for a fall.

Integrity

▪ This is the quality of being outstanding or extremely good.

▪ Excellence is our ever growing, personal and collective best, as

an offering to God!

▪ Excellence is not stagnant.

▪ It is a moving Target.

Excellence

WAYS TO IMPROVE ON EXCELLENCE

▪ Always strive to get better. Excellence takes continuous

working.

▪ Excellence starts with the expectation we set for

ourselves. Set stretching goals, aspire to greatness.

▪ Approach what you “always do” with fresh eyes. The

room for improvement is the largest ever room.

Excellence
