The film, in 3D, has some spectacular scenes: flying ships, acrobatics and incredible stunts. The cast is made up of some huge stars: Milla Jovovich, who plays Milady de Winter; Orlando Bloom who plays the Duke of Buckingham; Logan Lerman who is D’Artagnan; Matthew Macfayden is Athos; and Ray Stevenson who plays Porthos. Oscar winner Christoph Waltz plays Cardinal Richelieu, Luke Evans is Aramis and Madds Mikkelsen is Rochefort.

D’Artagnan and the three muskateers embark on a series of adventures to defeat the enemies who want to gain the throne of France.

We’ll see you on the River Thames on Saturday 17th September!

History

In 1988, 72 competitors chose more than 20 boat types, representing six countries and created the Great River race. The competitors ranged from teenage boat enthusiasts* to elderly* sailors. The race became popular very quickly and began to attract more and more participants. Now, over 2000 competitors race in over 300 boats, competing for one of the 35 prizes available.

What is The Great River Race

It is a spectacular river marathon on the River Thames in London. It began in 1988 and has grown to become one of the most popular boat races for both professional and amateur* teams from all around the world.

The Course

The race begins at 13.20 at Millwall Dock in London. A starting cannon is fired and the slowest boats begin the race first, giving them a head-start*. The faster boats join the race last so all the teams have a fair chance of winning. The boats pass under 10 bridges, including the famous Tower Bridge and Westminster Bridge. They travel along the river, to Richmond, where the 22 mile (around 35.5 kilometres) race ends.

Celebrity Starters!

The race has also attracted a number of celebrities who come to fire the starting cannon*. Amongst these famous “starters” is the singer and songwriter Sting, actress Jane Horrocks and model Jerry Hall.

The Great River Race attracts teams from many different countries. Can you find the names of 8 countries on the wordsearch below?
