Let’s find out what kids are doing at school in the UK and the USA!
Half Term HolidaysIn the UK the school year begins in September
and is divided into three ‘terms’. Most schools
have a short ‘half-term’ holiday at the end of
October or beginning of November, so a lot of
pupils in the UK are enjoying a holiday now!
While in the USA, kids are waiting until the end
of November for their first holiday, when they
celebrate Thanksgiving!

Uniforms? Most pupils in British schools wear
a school uniform, which means that
they all dress in the same way for
school. In America, pupils usually
wear their normal clothes for school.
In your country, do children normally
wear a uniform at school?
Learning LanguagesFrom the age of 7, British children learn a foreign
language. Usually they learn French, German or Spanish,
but in some schools you can learn Arabic, Chinese and
Greek! In the United States, Spanish and French are
the most popular foreign languages studied in schools.
Children there usually begin learning a language at the
age of 14, but you can start learning foreign languages in
some elementary schools too!

Winter is coming and with it comes the snow.
Lots of snow, hopefully! Because in Scotland
it’s time to get out your skis, put on your
snow-boots and get moving!
Do you like skiing, or snowboarding, or even
mountain-climbing in the snow? Maybe
you don’t know, but you can do all of these
things right here in Scotland. In fact Scotland
is becoming more and more famous for its
winter sports, attracting snow-sports fans
from all over the world.
Ben Nevis is the highest mountain in the
British Isles. It is situated in the Grampiam
Mountains in the Highlands of Scotland. Ben
Nevis is popular with sports fans and is the
main UK destination for ice-climbing (climbing
up mountain walls which are made from ice).
