Stewards Gather at Meeting Hall for Contract UpdatesOn Nov. 6, City of Chicago stewards and a few rank-and-file members joined Teamsters Local 700 representatives at the union hall to receive an update on contract negotiations.

Chief Negotiators Jon Magna and Stuart Davidson went through a summary of proposals that were discussed during COUPE negotiations with the other unions that represent City of Chicago workers. They also talked about the proposals that the bargaining committee decided were best to bring to the individual Local 700 negotiations with the City.

On Dec. 6, the same group was invited back for another update and a lobbying workshop to prepare them to speak to their respective Aldermen about the contract. Greg Ortiz, Local 700 Political Director/Trustee, and Mike Ciaccio, Joint Council 25 Director of Government Affairs, talked to the group about how to properly approach their Aldermen.

The Local 700 bargaining committee then met with the City three days in a row, from Dec. 7 through the weekend. The parties had their final session before the holidays on Thursday, Dec. 14 and scheduled negotiations to resume on Jan. 3, 2018.

City Members Volunteer at Thanksgiving Day Parade

On Thanksgiving Day, Local 700 Business Agent Harold Irving, MTD David LaRue and Dept. of Finance booter Darryl Porter all volunteered their time to help run the behind-the scenes operations of the annual McDonald’s Thanksgiving Day Parade.

David, a 15-year volunteer with the parade crew, acted as a liaison to the Chicago Police and also coordinated the floats by keeping track of their timing coming down the City streets. Darryl and Harold provided security at the parade for the VIPs and elected officials that were there to participate. Darryl has been a parade volunteer for the last 10 years. The McDonald’s Thanksgiving Parade, known as “Chicago’s Grand Holiday Tradition”, is an annual parade produced and presented by the Chicago Festival Association. It is held on State Street every Thanksgiving morning from 8 - 11 a.m. The parade just celebrated its 83rd year as Chicago’s first Christmas Parade was on State Street on Dec. 7, 1934.

Congratulations to City of Chicago Retirees!

Business Agent Harold Irving with MTD Foreman Eyvonne Love, who just retired after 34 years of service with the City. Known as “Ms. Love” to everyone, she has always been a proud Teamster member.
