The M/T Sea Bay has developed an innovative method to confirm the conduct of fire patrols in high risk areas of the ship. The system consists of numbered, and color coded cards as depicted in the adjacent photographs.

• Twelve (12) high risk spaces are identified• Three (3) sets of cards are provided, numbered 1-12, corresponding

to each identified high risk space• Each set is of a different color

The intention of the color coded, numbered and area marked patrol cards is to make a fool proof system for ensuring that fire patrolling is taken seriously and not subject to compromise. The fire prone areas identified, are marked by a card of a specific number, and rotating color. To ensure the fire patrol does not miss any location during his rounds, he must take one set of full cards of one color, and then must patrol the areas designated on the cards in order to retrieve a duplicate card of a different color that is fixed on the bulk-head by a magnetic spring clip. When checking each designated space, the numbered cards are exchanged so that it is replaced by the new color. Once all spaces have been checked and all cards have been replaced, the fire patrol returns the set of cards that had been on station to the OOW on the bridge. The OOW in turn checks & ensures that all 12 numbered cards of the same colors are returned and stowed safely back in the slot again. The most vital aspect being that the OOW on the bridge can monitor the system and ensure the fire safety of the vessel without doubt.
