TEAM Software Partners with Infragistics to Bring Sophisticated,Yet Simple Time Keeping Solution to Windows Tablet Time keeping systems for payroll purposes have come a long way from the punch clocks of last century.

Driven by market trends such as outsourcing, telecommuting, and a shift towards a services-oriented

culture, Team Software, an ISV specializing in the building service and security contractor industries, knew

that innovation in these time-tracking systems could help streamline operations and administrative

processes and position them to stay competitive in the market.

Back in the 90s, TEAM Software had

a simple, modem-based time-clock

solution that didn’t offer biometric

authentication (identification via the

unique attributes of fingerprints or

face images). As the need for a

more sophisticated solution began

to rise, the hardware that the time-

clock was based on was phased out.

TEAM Software made a decision to

refer future time-clock customers to

third-party vendors. However, as

customer needs became more complex, the company decided that its “buy vs. build” decision would sway

back to build.

Enter TeamTime Portal, a Windows-based solution that not only serves as a time and attendance device,

but also acts as a communication touchpoint for remote employees, providing valuable, real-time

information, like schedules and messaging with response tracking.

“We knew the functionality needed for the product but wanted to put a great-looking skin on the app, so

it would be able to stand up to other solutions on the market,” shared Michael Straub, Vice President of

Software Development at TEAM Software. “It also needed to be intuitive for a user-base that is not

necessarily very tech-savvy and may not speak English as a first language.”

Straub and his team turned to Infragistics Services for their expertise in User Interface (UI) design and

front-end development know-how. As a UX design company, and leader in UI development tools,

Infragistics was perfectly suited to understand the vision for the TeamTime Portal project and make that

vision a reality.

“We needed it to look great and flow well. We were somewhat new to WPF programming, and Infragistics

had the traction in that area as well as the user experience expertise we needed,” Straub said.

Before starting, Infragistics’ Services team looked to understand and assess the needs of TEAM Software

and its customers - such as when, how, and where the solution would be used. Discovering important

human characteristics – such as the multi-ethnic and multi-generational make-up of the potential users of

TeamTime Portal, their access to support, the nature of their work, and kinds of information that would be

recorded and delivered through the device – meant that the solution would have to offer a clean visual

design and an intuitive and easy to use UI.

learning and understanding TEAM Software’s goals, users, and use environments we were able to design

and deliver this elegantly simple, but highly effective and intuitive UI featuring a touch-friendly interface

and universal icons that would feel familiar and intuitive to their users.”

Infragistics Services went to work reviewing TEAM Software’s ideas, creating an interaction concept with

matching wireframes and designing all imagery and icons used in the final application of TeamTime

Portal. And with its deep expertise in modern platform application development, Infragistics delivered the

WPF code that would ensure TeamTime Portal’s compatibility with a range of hardware options and

biometric authentication devices.

Following a successful beta test with several clients, TeamTime Portal has already been adopted for use in

devices in a number of locations, including New York City’s landmark Empire State Building, Target Field

in Minnesota, select Kohl’s department stores, and Temple University in Philadelphia.

Approximately 75% percent of TEAM’s clients who tested TeamTime Portal bought it after beta testing in

order to roll it out as a permanent business solution. The solution is also gaining momentum with several new

clients, who purchased it due to its enhanced identification security, its ability to operate where other time-

clocks cannot, and because of functionality that enables it to do more than a typical timekeeping device.
