• As assigned by the Instructor, participate as a contributing team member on an RPT Student team.

• Demonstrate the use of the SLAPPS mnemonic to exercise situational awareness.

Explanation

• The class will be separated into teams. The minimum number is two with the maximum and preferred number set at four. No five person teams.

• After team selection, the groups should form up, review the Student Guide up to but not including Section 1.

Explanation

• All teams will start Section 1 at the same time and will not go to Section 2 until directed by the Instructor.

• The teams will start and complete Sections 1-3 when directed by the Instructor.

• The different sections are designed to exercise the dynamics of teamwork, communications, and human performance improvement tools.

Section 1 - TEAM

• Follow the directions in the Student Guide• Be prepared to start the three minute report

backs when you hear the alarm.

Section 2 – Communications, Procedures

• Immediately following the completion of Section 1 – the Instructor will provide a “Pre-Job Briefing” on the task at hand.

• Each team is allowed 25 minutes to complete Section 2.

• Two four person teams and one two person team are permitted in the RCA at any one time.

• The two person team will not use radio communication – but both will be in the RCA at the same time.

Section 2 – Communications, Procedures

• The instructor will start the clock for each set of teams as soon as possible after the briefing.

• The outside reader is responsible for keeping track of the time for their team.

• The inside team is required to exit upon the receipt of an alarm.

Section 3 – Review and Report Back

• After the completion of the RCA time for Section 2, teams should return to the staging point and complete the Student Guide Section 3 steps 1-5.

• The last teams exiting will be given 10 minutes to complete the Student Guide steps 1-5.

Section 3 – Review and Report Back

• Steps 6 and 7 of Section 3 will start when the instructor indicates the last teams have completed steps 1-5.

• In the event the lab period time has expired, the steps will be deferred to the next lab period as directed by the instructor.
