Team Reflection Work with your teaching team

If there are fewer than 3 of you present, merge with another team

Where is your team right now in the phases discussed in the document?

What should you focus on to make progress? Any feedback on the document itself? (it’s brand new

after all!)

Co-Teaching

Page 15: TEALS January Meetup

Strategies for Effective Co-Teaching Think about…

What are the potential benefits of having multiple adults in the classroom?

What does effective co-teaching look like? What does effective co-teaching require?

Page 16: TEALS January Meetup

Model 1: One Teach, One Support What should the supporter

do? Hand out papers Drive the demo/computer Prepare next part of lesson Monitor student engagement

Page 17: TEALS January Meetup

Model 2: Team Teaching Situations

Asking model questions Paraphrasing Boardwork 2 sides of a debate

Transitions Positive Handoff Signal

Page 18: TEALS January Meetup

Model 3: Parallel Teaching Reduce Student:Teacher

ratio Same or different

activities Esp. discussions – gives

each student more talk time

Page 19: TEALS January Meetup

Model 4: Station Teaching Hint: you do this almost

every day!

Page 20: TEALS January Meetup

Model 5: Alternative Teaching Can you think of moments in

your class when this would have been helpful?

Be careful with remediation Don’t set low expectations.

Page 21: TEALS January Meetup

Team Teaching Improv ACTIVITY Goal: practice the TEAM TEACHING model

Pair up with someone from your teaching team, and then join a group with another pair (4 people/group total)

Objective: SWBAT explain the binary number system and convert between decimal and binary numbers up to 8 bits

8 minutes to plan how to present the new material (lecture) + demo an example (3 minute lesson)

Page 22: TEALS January Meetup

Team Teaching Improv Game Objective: SWBAT explain the binary number system and

convert between decimal and binary numbers up to 8 bits Rules:

While one teacher is speaking, the other should be writing on the “board” (paper).

The observing team can signal the teachers to switch roles by shouting “Switch!”. This can happen up to 3x throughout the lesson.

Afterwards, discuss what worked well (particularly during transitions), what felt unnatural or didn’t go as planned, and the specific things that need to be planned out ahead of time

Page 23: TEALS January Meetup

Team Teaching Wrapup What are the potential

benefits of having multiple adults in the classroom?

What does effective co-teaching look like?

What does effective co-teaching require?

How can you use this in your classroom to: Boost student

achievement? Make progress towards

curriculum handoff?
