Given the changing deomgraphics all aquatic educators wil face the reality of CALD familrs intheir programmes.

1. Get to know the families:
What are their cultural community backgrounds, are they new to the area, country
What languages are spoken at home, do the parents extended family/helpers speak any English

2. Bridge the language barrier:
Establish relationships of equality and respect from the very first contact.
Translate notices into different languages that maybe in your community.

3. Link students and families:
Students/familes from same cultural /language backgrounds in same class if and where possible.

Need to consider staff may come from diverse cultural and linguistic backgrounds.
Need to consider their training needs and adaptions

5. Strike a balance:
Between the families culture and beliefs and what are your own beliefs and values.

6: Clearly defined guidelines:
Ensure families are aware of the rules, behaviour codes and standards required.
If they don't understand spend time explaining to them.
Understand their needs and adjust if required

7: Water safety
Imperative to ensure that the safety messages are well understood
Your experiences may not be theirs
Water activities may not be part of their culture
