• 17 Tech Camps offered, starting March 1999• Purpose: “lay the groundwork for designing
and teaching courses using technological tools… It will provide faculty participants with enough and varied experience to comfortably bring technology to bear on academic courses they teach.” http://www.d.umn.edu/itss/etrg/techcamp/
Brief History of UMD Tech Camp
• Over its history:– Tech Camp has been adapted for f2f, hybrid, and
online teaching delivery modes.– the length has gone from 5 days to 7 days to 10
weeks.– participation is limited to 20 faculty with an
application process.– the format aligns with intended delivery mode.

• What misperceptions or pre-perceptions have you come across with online teaching and learning?– all are self-paced– there must be a “class time” (synchronous)– there cannot be a “class time” (asynchronous) – everything can be completed during the last
week– weekly reflections can be submitted mid-week
