Nutrition - Literacy Connections

Activity: Glorious Foods

Circle any food and drinks you had yesterday if an exact food isn’t there, circle a food that is

similar (e.g. circle pork chops for pork tenderloin)

Fold page in half and then in to thirds to make six equal sections

Four sections each represent a food group and the last section represents ‘other food’ compare to food guide, use for goal setting

Activity: Rhyme Time

Reading and writing nutrition and food related rhymes

classroom activity, school wide activity, publish in newsletter

Connect topic to grade specific healthy eating expectations, connect to music

The Classroom

Kids love to cook! Halving and doubling the recipe 1 tsp is what fraction of a tbsp? If the recipe is started at 1:00pm, will it be finished by

2:00pm? How many different ways can you cut a 30x30 pan of

granola bars in equal pieces? What is the smallest pan size that can be used for these

ingredients? Will the total volume of ingredients in this recipe fit in a

30x30x4cm pan?
