    What is it about?In todays world, students belong to a new generationwhere they live in a digital world, a world where itsmembers are part of an increasingly complex andglobalised society that is rich in both technology andinformation.

    The range of technologies is expanding and studentsare constantly interacting with it and constantlyproducing and consuming content. Most students arewell connected to technology, information resourcesand networks when they are away from school andthey rightly expect to learn in a school environmentthat mirrors this.

    The challenge for many schools is to createengaging learning environments with opportunitiesthat stimulate, extend and deepen student learningand embed the use of the technologies thatstudents use so ubiquitously in their daily lives. Hence,the school system must continually strive tounlock the full educational potential of digitaltechnologies.

    The course provides a theoretical and hands-onapproach to: World Wide Web design, informationliteracy and utility of the Internet as a teaching andlearning tool in schools and educational institutions.The utility of the Internet as an administrative tool andlearning theories supporting design guidelines for webteaching and learning is discussed.

    Participants will be oriented to collaborativelearning activities that take into account appropriatework contexts. They will be provided withopportunities to examine and critique theoreticaland practical issues involved..

    The key take-away from this workshop would beenhanced knowledge in creating interactive andengaging online learning content to make moreengaged, interactive learning environments.

    Develop an understanding of effective Internetinstructional design, including navigation,

    structure, and links.

    Analyze and apply relevant educational theoriesin advancing teaching and learning with theInternet.

    This one-day workshop will expose participants to howintegrating technologies in teaching and learning candrive changes in teacher practice and have a positiveimpact on student learning.

    Who is speaking?

    Dr Kumar Laxman has been actively promoting the use of technology to advance innovation in teaching andlearning and he has served as a catalytic leader in participating in numerous e-learning initiatives. He isknowledgeable in the various aspects of the field of educational design, having published widely in reputablejournals and presented at numerous international conferences and has provided consultancy to a number oforganizations in the domain of education, particularly enabling them to leverage upon technologies in enhancingteaching and learning.

    He has worked in various capacities both as an educator and instructional designer with many reputableeducational organizations and tertiary institutions such as Ministry of Education (Singapore), RepublicPolytechnic, University of New South Wales and National Institute of Education . Possessing excellentcommunication and management skills, he is able to keep his participant audience engaged with his impressivestyle of training delivery.

    Dr Kumar Laxman graduated with a PhD in instructional design and technology from Macquarie University,Australia. His other qualifications include a masters degree in educational technology from the National Instituteof Education (Singapore), a bachelors degree in civil engineering from the National University of Singapore anda postgraduate diploma in education from the National Institute of Education (Singapore).
