THIS QUALIFICATION IS DIVIDED INTO FOUR THEMES:

THEME 1: Introducing the role of the early years practitioner.

THEME 2: Legislation, frameworks and professional practice.

THEME 3: Play, development and learning for school.

THEME 4: Professional development.

Note: As these units are at Level 2 they are not directly transferrable onto a Level 3 qualification. There are 14 mandatory units within these themes with a value of 33 credits.

WHO IS IT SUITABLE FOR?This qualification is suitable for a range of learners from the age of 16 onwards who have little or no experience in childcare.

WHAT NEXT?Upon achievement of this qualification, you can progress onto any of our Level 3 qualifications in Early Years education.

This qualification prepares you to work with children between birth and 5 years, with knowledge of children up to 7 years.

CACHE Level 2 Certificate in an Introduction to Early Years Education and Care (QCF)

For those preparing to work in an Early years setting or are new to the role.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS.You should be at least 16 years old with a good standard of written and spoken English. You need to have a placement in an Early Years setting to gain experience. We recommend spending 5–7 hours per week in a placement.

COURSE DURATION.Up to one year, flexible study.

ASSESSMENT.Ongoing assignments, portfolio of evidence, observation in the workplace, no exams. PLACEMENT.5–7 hours per week.

THIS QUALIFICATION IS DIVIDED INTO FOUR THEMES:

You will complete 23 mandatory units within the four themes including 486 guided learning hours (GLH) and a minimum of 350 placement hours, divided as follows.

WHO IS IT SUITABLE FOR?This qualification is suitable for a range of learners, either working or wishing to work in early years education and care.

WHAT NEXT?Learners can progress to the CACHE Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services (England) (QCF), or other higher level Early Years qualifications:

• Level 4 Award in Providing Information to Support Decision Making (QCF)

• Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People Services

This qualification prepares you to become an Early Years Educator, enabling you to work with children from birth to 5 years and gain knowledge of children aged 5–7 years.

Upon achievement of this qualification you will be able to enter the workforce as an Early Years Educator. This qualification provides license to practice as an Early Years Educator.

CACHE Level 3 Diploma for the Early Years Workforce (Early Years Educator) (QCF)

For those wanting to be a Lead Practitioner or Early Years Educator in an Early Years Setting.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS.You should be at least 16 years old with a good standard of written and spoken English. Placements are required for achievement of this qualification. You will also need GCSE Maths and English at Grade C or above together with this qualification to count in the staff to child ratios at Level 3. This is not a requirement to complete this qualification.

COURSE DURATION.Up to 18 months, flexible study.

ASSESSMENT.Ongoing assignments, portfolio of evidence, observation in the workplace, no exams. PLACEMENT.0–5 years, 3 50 hours.

WHAT NEXT?A Level 5 qualification such as the CACHE Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health, Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services. A degree or equivalent qualification.

WHO IS IT SUITABLE FOR?Anyone working in a managerial position in a Childcare or Education position. The learning outcomes relate to the obtaining, analysing and using information to support decision making in your setting.

This professional development qualification provides the knowledge and skills needed to obtain, store, analyse and use information in order to make decisions. It also covers giving advice and information to others.

CACHE Level 4 Award in Providing Information to Support Decision Making

This qualification is ideal for those new to working as a manager in their setting. A Level 5 version of this qualification is also available for more experienced managers.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS.You should already be working in a managerial or leadership position and already hold a Level 3 qualification and be working at that level or above within your setting.

COURSE DURATION.Up to 3 months, flexible study.

ASSESSMENT.Assignment based assessments, no exam.

PLACEMENT.You should be working as a manager or leader in your setting throughout the duration of this course.

WHO IS IT SUITABLE FOR?This qualification is ideal for those looking to further their career in a setting working with children. The learning outcomes relate to the pathway chosen and comprise of a wide range of mandatory and optional units.

The Early Years College are offering the three pathways for those working with children. The Residential Services pathways are aimed at learners in similar job roles as those taking the Management pathways but the focus is on management and care in residential settings. The Management pathways are most suitable for Assistant Managers and Deputy Managers who are looking to progress their career. The Advanced Practice pathways are geared towards senior practitioners who would like to develop their career but wish to remain active practitioners within the management framework.

CACHE Level 5 Diploma in Leadership for Health and Social Care and Children and Young People’s Services

For those new to working as a manager in their setting looking to specialise in advanced practice, residential care or management.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS.You should already be working in a managerial or leadership position. You must be at least 19 years of age. You should already hold a Level 3 or 4 qualification and be working at that level or above within your setting.

COURSE DURATION.Up to 18 months, flexible study.

ASSESSMENT.Assignment based assessments, no exam.

PLACEMENT.You should be working as a manager or leader in your setting throughout the duration of this course.

WHO IS IT SUITABLE FOR?All those who would like to work in a school support role. It also provides initial training and induction for those new in post.

This qualification is an introduction to the information and knowledge needed to work in primary, secondary or special schools. It covers the many varied roles that full and part time support staff may fulfill including: administrative roles, site support roles, technical roles and volunteers, as well as those roles that work directly with children and young people in the school environment.

CACHE Level 2 Award in Supporting Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF)

For those requiring the knowledge and understanding to work in a supporting role.

WHO IS IT SUITABLE FOR?Anyone working in a role supporting learning such as a teaching assistant, one-to-one support, learning support assistant or learning mentor. This qualification enables you to specialise by selecting from a broad range of optional units.

This qualification provides an in-depth understanding of the knowledge and skills required when working directly with children or young people in primary, secondary or special schools. It covers all aspects of supporting teaching and learning with a selection of optional units to enable you to specialise in units such as teaching and learning, special educational needs, bilingual support, pastoral care, the wider curriculum and working as a lead TA.

CACHE Level 3 Diploma in Specialist Support for Teaching and Learning in Schools (QCF)

This qualification is the best vocational qualification you can gain as a Teaching Assistant. It is the qualification most frequently requestedby schools.

ENTRY REQUIREMENTS.You should be at least 16 years old with a good standard of written and spoken English. You need to have a placement in a school setting to gain experience. We recommend spending at least 2 days each week in school, however there is no set requirement. Your placement could be paid or voluntary.

COURSE DURATION.Eighteen months, flexible study.

ASSESSMENT.Ongoing assignments, portfolio of evidence, observation in the workplace, no exams.

PLACEMENT.7–10 hours per week.
