Already starting month #3—and the progress we have seen with the students is really incredibly! Listening skills, social skills with peers, literacy and printing their names are all examples of growth. Handwriting Without Tears You have likely noticed that we teach your child to write their name in uppercase letters. Bedrock Playschool follows the “Handwriting Without Tears” program, as do both elementary schools in the valley. All uppercase letters can be made with the following pencil strokes: big line, little line, big curve and little curve. It is developmentally appropriate to have preschoolers learn their uppercase letters first. Once they have mastered their capital letters and consistently start printing each letter from the top downwards, then they can learn to print their name with a capital first letter and the remaining letters in lowercase. If you have any questions on this theory, please feel free to ask us about it! Monthly Themes and Activities During the month of November, there will be a gocus on Space and Science. If any parents have items at home that might enhance our themes such as: toy astronauts, plastic planets, start or spacecrafts. Any solar system/planet posters would also be greatly appreciated. And if any family has a mini trampoline that could be borrowed until the end of November, that would be a great and fun help too! We would definitely appreciate any donations of these items, or to simply borrow them and they can be returned at the end of the month. We will also be spending some time on the basics of shapes and colors. There will be a focus on Remembrance Day as well. Snack Time Thank you for packing smaller snacks and focusing on sending only two different items from the four food groups. It has been great to see so many smaller and healthier snacks packed with our students! Lending Library Available for lending from the classroom, we have a variety of books and theme backpacks to assist learning at home. These items are all found in the locker/entry area of the classroom and can be signed out in the blue library binder on the shelf next to the book shelf. Students are asked to bring back previous items before borrowing more, and to make sure they enjoy and have fun! Have a wonderful month! Already starting month #3—and the progress we

have seen with the students is really

incredibly! Listening skills, social skills with peers,

literacy and printing their names are all examples of

growth.

Handwriting Without

Tears

You have likely noticed that we teach your child to

write their name in uppercase letters.

Bedrock Playschool follows the “Handwriting Without

Tears” program, as do both elementary schools in the

valley. All uppercase letters can be made with

the following pencil strokes: big line, little line, big curve and little curve.

It is developmentally appropriate to have

preschoolers learn their uppercase letters first.

Once they have mastered their capital letters and

consistently start printing each letter from the top downwards, then they can learn to print their name with a capital first letter and the remaining letters

in lowercase. If you have any questions on this

theory, please feel free to ask us about it!

Monthly Themes and

Activities

During the month of November, there will be a

gocus on Space and Science. If any parents have items at home that

might enhance our themes such as: toy astronauts, plastic planets, start or spacecrafts. Any solar system/planet posters would also be greatly appreciated. And if any family has a mini

trampoline that could be borrowed until the end of

November, that would be a great and fun help too!

We would definitely appreciate any donations

of these items, or to simply borrow them and they can be returned at the end of the month.

We will also be spending some time on the basics of shapes and colors. There

will be a focus on Remembrance Day as well.

Snack Time

Thank you for packing smaller snacks and

focusing on sending only two different items from the four food groups. It has been great to see so

many smaller and healthier snacks packed with our

students!

Lending Library

Available for lending from the classroom, we have a

variety of books and theme backpacks to assist learning at home. These items are all found in the locker/entry area of the

classroom and can be signed out in the blue

library binder on the shelf next to the book shelf. Students are asked to

bring back previous items before borrowing more, and to make sure they

enjoy and have fun!

Have a wonderful month!

Helping Hand! With the timeframes for our classes, our hardworking teachers have a small amount of time to tidy up, eat their luches and prepare for their next class. Parents can help by ensuring your child is picked up promptly to provide adequate time for our edu-cators to have that much needed break to recharge and prepare.

PARENT HELPERS: Unsure of what to do on your parent helper day? There is a list of tasks located on the counter by the painting smocks. Please ask if you are unsure where the cleaning supplies are. We can not have this fantastic Playschool without the help of our families parents!!

All of the help for the teachers is always greatly appreciated.

• Using a spray bottle

• Sorting pennies, nickels and dimes

• Gluing

Santa’s Little Helpers For the Christmas concert this year, we will be looking for a few ‘elves’ to get planning and preparation put together.

There will be sign up sheets outside the classroom for anyone interested in joining the Christmas Committee

team. There will be small gifts from Santa for all students and their siblings. An RSVP sheet will also be posted

outside the classroom to ensure no child is forgotten. In order to do this, we ask that every family donate $2 for

each sibling not currently attending the program who

will be joining us for the concert. Look for the

Christmas box inside the classroom beside the

Lending Library sign out book for leaving your

toonies. And of course, much thanks!

Why reading to your Pre-School

child is beneficial

School Preparation: Reading aloud is the easiest and most effective way to prepare a child for school. And it’s never too early to start

preparing them. Kids who are read to when they are young are more likely to do well in school overall.

When you read to children, you are stimulating language and literacy

skills, as well as building motivation, curiosity and memory. Ever try to

skip a page in a small child’s favorite book? They catch you every time!!

At just $5 each, Mabel’s Labels is offering sweet little

combos that make perfect stocking stuffers, party

favors and personalized add-ons to other gifts. Hurry! These festive

designs are available for a limited time only!

Message from the PresidentMessage from the PresidentMessage from the PresidentMessage from the President It is hard to believe we are already in our third month of classes and things are

moving along nicely. The kids are settling into their playschool routine and hopefully some lifelong friendships are being made. While we are a play-based program, the

kids have still been hard at work on their pre-school skills such as scissor proficiency and letter recognition to name a few. Our teachers are continuing to

learn new techniques to support our children and an Occupational Therapist recently visited some of our classes to reinforce proper pencil grasp.

Our Christmas Committee is hard at work planning our Christmas Concerts which will be held on December 10th and 11th. We will be looking for parents to help with the set up (December 10th) and take down (December 11th), so please keep an eye our for the signup sheet which will be up in the next few days on the board outside the

classroom.
