Teacher’s Guide Development Course 2

1

Introduction Development Course 2 continues to build the speaking, listening, reading, and writing skills acquired in Development Course 1. Students begin to read longer fiction and more informative non-fiction stories as well as answer more difficult questions. The questions further transition away from ones requiring students to simply repeat sentences from the story verbatim and begin to focus more on reading comprehension and forming personal opinions. Students continue to answer questions through writing, and a guided writing activity is introduced in this level to further develop writing skills. Students in this level continue to develop their vocabulary and learn stories with a wide range of key expressions. Learning through practice and forming their own sentences serves as the primary means through which students gain confidence in the language.

How To Use This Guide

Lesson Overview lists the basic instruction and goal of

each section. Blue text indicates the instructions from

the textbook.

Textbook Activity

Screen Icon Time (Minutes)

Textbook Page

Procedure lists detailed instructions for teaching each section. Each step is

indicated with a number. Gray text indicates instructions for the teacher to follow. [Bracketed gray text]

indicates website instructions. Black text explains procedures for students to follow.

Ex: Click [start] Look and say the word Click [speaker] Listen and repeat Click [play] for the next flashcard

In the above instruction, the teacher would click on the [start] button and then

students would look and say the word. Then the teacher would click the [speaker] button, and students would listen and repeat. The teacher would then click the [play] button to go to the next flashcard.

Appendix 4: Homework Overview

Students complete their homework online. Each story has 15 assignments total. The teacher evaluates the students’ recorded homework on the website and gives an evaluation

for each assignment. Students mark the result from the teacher on the homework page of their textbook.

The teacher may assign one of three evaluations: Excellent Good, and Try Again. Excellent shows highly accurate and above average achievement. Good shows average

achievement. Try Again is reserved for student recordings that are significantly below average, and the student will complete the assignment again.
