For every child in the world to get a good education 1.7 million more trained teachers are desperately needed.

Every day millions of children miss out on school – sometimes because there simply aren’t enough teachers. Many more struggle to learn in overcrowded classrooms with up to 100 children and only one teacher!

It’s time to remind world leaders of their promise to give every child an education by 2015. Join the world’s biggest education campaign and support every child’s right to go to school.

Help us highlight the inspirational work of teachers around the world by making ‘ideal teacher cut-outs’ and sending them to your MP.

Take part in Send My Friend to School this year and remind world leaders that every child needs a teacher!

• Follow the stories of children who miss out on school.

• Create your ’ideal teacher cut-out’ with a special message.

• Hold events and activities in school.

• Record your school’s participation using our online totaliser!

• Send your teacher cut-outs to your MP by the end of June so they can pass on the message to world leaders.

Step 1: Explore the issues

Watch the introductory DVD and pin up the story posters.

Explore the issues in more depth using our online resources.

Meet some of the children who are missing out on school and find out how education has transformed the lives of others: www.sendmyfriend.org/resources

Step 2: Create ideal teacher cut-outs

Help us draw attention to the great work that teachers do all around the world by making your ‘ideal teacher cut-outs’.

Start by thinking about the qualities or skills that make a great teacher. How do teachers make classes interesting and fun? Does your ideal teacher have a mega-brain, a big heart, eyes in the back of their head, or the flexibility of an athlete?

‘Ideal’ teachers can be any size

• Copy the A4 teacher template to make cut-out teachers and use the cut-out icons for inspiration or decoration.

• Work together on a teacher puppet by photocopying or pasting the puppet templates onto cardboard and assembling them with paper fasteners.

• Go life-sized and draw round your own teacher!

Create a slogan or message to appear on the front or back of each cut-out teacher to encourage your MP to support the campaign.

Use crazy colours, patterns, glitter, stickers and fabric to customise your messages.

Check out our ideal teacher image gallery at: www.sendmyfriend.org/action-ideas

Step 3: Speak up – be heard!

Spread the word and get more people to speak up for all children who are denied an education.

Here are some ideas:

• Use our Do-it-yourself kit to create your own posters, press releases and presentations.

• Hold special events for pupils, teachers and parents in your local area.

• Invite your MP into school.

• Get a ‘Do-it-yourself kit’, press pack and much more at: www.sendmyfriend.org/speak-up

Step 4: Make it count

At the end of June it’s time to send your ideal teacher on a journey. The first stop is your local MP. Your MP can then send your messages to the Prime Minister.

The Prime Minister can influence the leaders of the world’s richest countries when he meets them at the G8 in June and the G20 in the autumn. We’ll let you know what happens through our e-newsletter updates.

Here’s what you need to do to make it count!

• Send your ideal teachers with a covering letter to your MP using the address shown on the covering letter in your pack. Send your messages to your MP by the end of June.

• Tell us what you did! Record how many people took part in events and activities at your school using our online totaliser. Add images to the action gallery and get a certificate to thank you for taking part.

Add the total number to our online Totaliser at: www.sendmyfriend.org/totaliser
